getting to the main square of the city and the beginning. even some flood sisters have started a fight with the teeth on the phone. you said a lot of those, sir, protesting there are people not? oh, who feeling nostalgic. oh, for the former soviet union and full russia. western governments are actually accusing russia, trying to destabilize the country with the help of control to protests. is there anything to that? that's jermel devin oki shows also a kind of information this morning, the national police sad that on there. i'm not disorders planned for today. according to he, a lot of people from russia about to train groups, alpha, local, know how to provoke a relation on our devon undercover agent, detained,

trying to find that yesterday evening. and unfortunately, i wanted to steer on risks here and afford these kind of dog get paid work around $10000.00. right. diana, papa reporting there from the protests in a kiss now in the capital often will dover. thank you so much, dana and it's been called the largest demonstration in israel's history organ. i says say, over half a 1000000 people rallied across the country, protesting the right wing governments proposed radical overhaul of the countries judiciary. the plants would allow israel's parliament to override supreme court rulings and permit the government to make judicial appointments with its representatives. supporters of the judicial reform say the changes are necessary to redress the balance of power. wow. wars of outrage
1:08 pm
rang out across israel. the demonstrations of almost become a weekly ritual. since prime minister benjamin netanyahu returned to power in january. critics fear his plans to reform the judiciary would. hollowell, the high courts, independence and good its ability to service, to check on the israel government, allowing a simple majority in parliament to reject this decision. we are protesting because if not, he said like compliance and we will never agree to have democracy. abolish in this country in a country that's long, prided itself and being the only democracy in the middle east. many is really see the legislation as an assault on the very soul of the country. i mean, to demonstrate them to sound my voice against the dictatorship of their stub this year in the name of the so called law judge called reform. it's not a judge, colorful, it's a revolution making is read, go to for that issue. and i want to say a democracy for my kids,
1:09 pm
for my grandson is, will be here because it is a democracy country. and there's one, despite the demonstrations prime incentives in yahoo and his allies have pledge to press ahead. it's opposition, keeps mounting. and we're now joined by dw correspondent andrew selim rebecca. rita's rebecca, the protests have been taking place for several weeks now. could you please put to what's happening there in israel into a wider context? that's right, monica, these protests have been going on now for 10 consecutive weeks since the government announced this controversial plan to overhaul the judiciary. in early january. they have been gaining pace. they did start out as the weekly protests on the weekend, or even largely in television then slowly spreading out throughout the country. but of course, saturday night isn't the most disruptive. so we've seen them spilling over into
1:10 pm
week days now to particularly when those bills were 1st being discussed by the, by the connected by the committee. and then in the case that we saw a thousands of tens of thousands of protesters here on monday in jerusalem. we've been seeing now for the last couple of weeks. what were they calling? days of resistance, days of destruction, or the latter being on thursday. there's another couple planned for during this week as well as people trying to, to be more disruptive to the economy, to people's daily lives, to really make their voices heard. now in the beginning of the government or the coalition, we're able to kind of dismiss these protests to sort of left as crews left as plot to try and overthrow the government or try and, you know, make their voices heard that they, they weren't happy with the election result, but that's becoming much harder for a bebe netanyahu for benjamin netanyahu, the prime minister and his coalition. now we're seeing reservists, military reservist join their protests, other top military brass, both a former and current. and we're seeing economists and people from the tech industry as well. and even right wing protests there,
1:11 pm
there's been at least 3 weeks of right wing protests here in jerusalem. or there are people that voted probably for some of these coalition parties. most certainly probably a lot of voters from the la crude party that benjamin netanyahu party. they're also very unhappy with the reform. so the government, the coalition becoming increasingly isolated in its decision to push forward with these reforms with opinion poll showing that a majority of people in the country are actually against these reforms being pushed through so quickly. but it certainly seems to be the case that the, the government is pushing that. what many se controversial bill through is trying to do. so this bill seems to be very important to the current coalition ways that all their argument you, you reported on a little bit before in the report. but the argument from the supporters is really that the supreme court has too much power, that you know more power of the will of the people, the majority, the, the electorate should be heard. this is a country because it doesn't have
1:12 pm
a constitution, it only has one house of the parliament. there is no separation of the judiciary. i'm sorry, of the legislative and executive power. so this is the supreme court is really one of the only checks on the government, the government now trying to roll back some of those checks. and they're saying that you know, that that's important. opposed opposition to opposes of the of the bill changes rather as saying that it would, it would mean that minority rights are rejected. and that, you know, yeah, basically that, that a lot of support. there's a lot of personal within the government. the ultra orthodox factions of the government want to to push their changes ahead and that that requires a weakening of the supreme court as well as the, the national religious. and of course, benjamin netanyahu, himself is existential for him. he's also facing trial so it could personally benefit him to have changes to the supreme court as well. so definitely something that is really is leading the country apart, monica right. all right, did i'll be as rebecca ritter's reporting inter rosellan. rebecca,
