hey, this is data leave is us, i'm on the xena. welcome. starting to morrow twitter is famous check mark will come with a price tag. that's according to ellen musk. the blue take has been a long time social media status symbol, and a way to verify the identity of celebrity users. as part of as part of muffs new service called twitter blue users will have to purchase a subscription to receive a check. the move comes as mosque tries to boost revenues. the new checks will cost around a dollar is for users and at least $1000.00 for organizations. big media outlets like the new york times and the washington post say they won't pay. now with me here to talk about these big changes at twitter as internet policy expert at the lisbon council, constantino's coma eaters. hello mr. coleman with mr. can wait as twitter going logan's acts, twitter going unsafe? how significant is that for the platform?
6:46 pm
well, it is. this is a pretty significant change on the and the problem with what is about to happen. as you said, you know, only people who would be willing to pay it would be displaying that blue check. is that it makes a part of due of, of verification on, you know, under the old system. which admittedly was not perfect. that luke checked signified some sort of quality account quality and then use it. so we'll just signify up to a commercial transaction. yet the fact that the blue check will continue to be displayed appears to be a little bit attention. for me feels like a dark pattern designed to create some sort of confusion. so i think that to model we will be weak waking up to the reality that unfortunately tweet is not on get free both literally and figuratively. and what on puerto because of that. so treat there is going to change and i believe to the worse training for the worse steaming,
6:47 pm
that will be a lot easier for scanners, for example, to operate under this blue check. so you know, if we see cal tweeter has sort of changed over the years. yes. i think that's pretty much what will happen and you know, the change of twitter ever since mister mosque to call her husband both dramatic and quite noticeable. so, you know, in the past 5 months, because leach, really dismantled everything but made tweet that what it used to be. he was driven away expertise because only journalist, he was forced of that environment and of 1st and 2nd class citizens. and he will do so to model with his new edition, while at the same time he doesn't want it, you know, but act dorsey, spammers and sickle. hans. so for me, what he's interested is that instead of trying to compete with the version of
6:48 pm
treatment that he did, it seems like that he's competed with social media platforms like social tools that which are based on the echo chamber of kate and this information. and each decision that he makes 3 gives a new accidents, right, of expertise. and people who have historically, again, may tweet of what it was you just mentioned. the new york times is not going to participate in this new scheme. so i've not been able to mistake, and i hope i'm proven wrong, but the next few months would be quite critical for the future of the site. thank you so much, mr. call. later. thank you. now to some of the other global business stories making is japan as restricting exports to china for 23 items used to make any conductors move follow similar steps by the us and the u. china and japan are key trading partners. but diplomatic ties have been trained in recent years as tokyo growth, wary of meetings,
6:49 pm
growing military and economic power. officials from australia and china are expected to meet next week to discuss normalizing treat relations. b jing and post bands on australian goods worth billions of dollars, including coal, barley, wine, and lobsters. the ban meant to punish canberra for requesting an inquiry into the pandemic origins. russian automaker of 2 of us has sent all employees on leave for 3 weeks. and due to a lack of parts for its lotta cars, the auto business is among the sectors hardest hit by western sanctions against russia. most international carmakers have left the country with only chinese friends. still present. diversity is profitable for business teams that are ethnically and culturally varied likely perform better than their white male counterparts. that's according to a mckinsey report. nevertheless, black people,
6:50 pm
people of color and indigenous groups continue to be discriminated against, especially at work here in germany. for example, one and 5 people of color see they've experienced racial discrimination in the workplace in the us. that's up to nearly a quarter. and the figure is even higher in the u. k. where 41 percent report experiencing racial discrimination at work for people of color, racist jokes, stereotypes, bullying and harassment often become part of their professional experience. now let's have a look behind these numbers that we just saw. we spoke to alpha, dea was originally from senegal, and we asked him about his experience of working in germany. how for the comes from senegal. he now lives in hamburg, where he works as a model. he says he's experienced repeated discrimination because of the color of his skin. like when he wanted to go to a club with friends. now me my acne, they always said no,
6:51 pm
no go. that was brutal for me when we didn't even have a chance. and even if we did, it fell apart. when we had to show id cards, we had special id papers and they always said no reason for 1000000 division and money. and he's also had problems with prejudice and his modeling work between slate of, of the lay them is sorry, but unfortunately we don't have clients for you in new york or you look great, but try new york. and i say, hey, i'm here in germany. i did my schooling here and i want to be successful here in customer mental. my knees were such blatant moment, was realizing that they were limited to my career, me and my future because of my appearance, i mostly out of the seas this as racist. exclusion and he's not the only one german society may be diverse, but anyone with
6:52 pm
a different skin color or who whereas a headscarf is likely to experience racism sooner or later. that goes for berlin and the whole country. one researcher says that 90 percent of the respondents c racism and germany has a problem. those who belong to a minority are usually speaking from experience. it's i, the number speak for themselves. racism is not a marginal phenomenon, but one that affects society as a whole. schools, the police, labor and housing are some of the primary areas affected by racism, but help is available. there are dozens of resource centers in berlin alone that are publicly funded. reach out is just one of them offering psychological help really stuff. it's always the case here. lot of people are traumatized by racism attacks for assistance and i'm grateful for us to see their traumatized by racial hostility on that in turn,
6:53 pm
causes physical problems. in michigan, the people can't sleep and they are constantly afraid. so men stand, you get uncle, had a worker, politicians, and scientists all agree racism is not an individual problem. but a structural problem, ian statistic. joining me now to talk about tackling racism in the workplace as professor lauren's lang. he's a diversity trainer and schumann writes advocate hello, professor lang. as we just saw jeremy still hasn't. as we saw, jeremy says, major problems with racism in the workplace, and that's a spite the country becoming increasingly racially diverse. what are the stumbling blocks here? racism continues in germany because very long the german nation, but also many companies have neglected to reality of diverse in migration,
6:54 pm
in this country. they have perceived germany as a quite homogeneous country, and therefore all diversity policies and started very late more than 30 years later, when since the united states of inc or england, we got proper antidiscrimination legislation regarding the workplace. what we also see as a continuing problem is that racism is perceived as something of a problem of the united states of england, of other countries, but not something which is here in the midst of our own development and being. and i think last but not least, is this conceptual idea that racism has nothing to do with the workplace. but it's a political problem, which is something people face outside the workplace because in the workplace, it's all professional. and we see people only for the competencies, which is not true. yeah. now you mentioned companies and the workplace here are you offer a workshops for businesses like a die to a bank, for example. what does your work with these businesses look like? concretely?
6:55 pm
yes, i offer workshops and seminars keynote for businesses in germany, and i am now in the verge of producing a training video for all employees of the daughter bon, regarding racism. am i worked with folks wagner, m deutsche bank and others. what we do, we try to make people aware how racism works, that it's part of the daily routine and the life of those people sitting next to them in the office. we help them with strategies, how to support others, but also avoid racism. how tend to act, but also creating and forgiving atmosphere when racism happens because what's often forgotten and racism very often is not brought into the world by convinced races, but by people doing honest mistakes. and we help these companies to find ways of working around and just yesterday are offered a training specifically on language and racism, talking about how certain frames termini certain way to speak about ethnic

minorities, him this people to strive to feel welcome and feel accepted inside the workplace, that at the moment do you think racism can be and learned? and if so, how yes racism can be under what is very important is to accept up all of us and in western societies have learned races, ideologies and ideas. sometimes they even are quite harmless. for instance, the conceptual yet are all black people can dancer or black people are fast. but in the end, this idea of us being good dances and fast runners reduces black individuals to their bodies and therefore makes it more likely for them to be hired in hardworking labor jobs, but not in jobs. we need to use your mind because the same stereotype also tells us they're less intelligent. so accepting that we've learned stereotypes as the 1st step after that, it's important to you on learn racism by moving away from the stereotypes,
6:57 pm
but also by supporting people who are affected. installing coulters against discrimination, your company's making sure that people of different backgrounds are hired, installing religious sensitivity training, allowing yourself was the employees who fasfa cetera. thank you for these concrete tips and that wraps up our show for today for more. and you can always check out d, w dot com slash business. we're also on the dw, is youtube channel for me and the business team here in berlin. thank you for watching and see you soon. ah ah ah
