my god, i'm not all of her out. there part of several on the radar of the national weather service, mostly in arkansas and iowa. oh my god, we got it. and so now the beast of a storm left behind this footprint, leaving it survivors. glad to have made it through all the way we knew the tornado was coming. the lease was whirling on the way we knew it looked like it was standing steel. someone say run to the bank, mainly to ladies here. ran to the bank we had together and we pray for our last our man, it was, it was devastating. it was, i say it was an aeroplane and, and had to take higher add that to the news seems like they're about that blow as well. so my goes a lot of pressure, it was quick, less than 1520 seconds. so quick yet so destructive.

more than $78000.00 people are estimated to be without paw across arkansas. and authorities describe the damage as extensive does spoken to i the leadership of hospitals, both here in central arkansas in around the state. ah, right now we have a number of injuries, but no individual hospital has been overwhelmed or is at a capacity that they are unable to to manage. like i said, this is an ongoing situation. we expect those numbers to increase. a search and rescue continues. the severe weather also struck illinois where the roof of a theatre collapse during a concert official c, around $260.00 people were in the building at the time an octave tornado season in the united states is getting even worse for more on this. let's talk to matthew capuchin. he's a measure ologist in washington,
5:04 pm
d. c. matthew, good to have you with us. perhaps you could explain 1st of all, why we have been seeing so many tornadoes in recent months. most definitely, you know, every spring we see tornadoes like clockwork. things to winter trying to retreat. you have summer time warm building in the gulf, mexico and usually april may and june is a seasonal class. so obviously it's a busy time of year and we average about $660.00 tornadoes during that time frame. what we've seen already that was been a very active start to the year we saw over $200.00 tornadoes in january. the 2nd most on record. we saw 55 in february twice as many as normal in march. we'll go down the books is obviously very busy too. now part of the reason, of course, natural variability just to randomly busy here, but also lun media is playing a role to that is the weather system. this starts with cooler waters in the eastern drop, the pacific, and then shuttles the position of the jet stream, shovels a position of keen weather systems. and in this case, made for a little bit more busy activity. we chipley c. so it's partly just the time year,

but partly with supercharge, thanks to anemia. and oh, what would you say i'm, i'm, is it fair to say that that could be a link between climate change and the frequency of tornadoes? so in terms of climate change and the frequency of tornadoes, i would say no, we're probably not seeing big uptake in the number of tornadoes. what it will say though, is we're seeing changes in the patterns as to where and when they occur. in other words, we're seeing more than we have cool season events now in the wintertime, particularly november, december, and january. when in the past, it might have been too cool for tornadoes. now we're seeing it a little bit warmer. we're seeing a little bit easier for thunderstorms, grow tall enough to feel the gesturing. winds in start rotating. so we're seeing more tornadoes that time of year. conversely, we're seeing fewer tornadoes over the u. s. great plains, perhaps things to climate change. of course it gets dryer out there during the month of may, and that's in the past few years weekend. how many tornadoes was in place like oklahoma, kansas, texas. and so i wouldn't say there's a strongly between how many tornadoes we see in climate change, right?
5:06 pm
it is just sort of changing when they occur. and matthew, could you just briefly put it in a nutshell for us, the u. s. is particularly affected by tornadoes. why is that the u. s. is kind of the perfect place worldwide where we get backlash of cool canadian air and warm moist air from the gulf of mexico. those to sorta just meet over the u. s. in wage war every single spring and summer time. and unfortunately, it's very predictable. but the impacts and in the lesser pretty severe. we saw 56 reported tornadoes with this pass outbreak and more likely come tuesday. ok, thank you so much. massey could put a metro ologist and washington d. c. now a fresh wave of ami conscription is getting on the way in russia, president vladimir putin has find a decree calling up nearly 150000 citizens of military service. 120000 others were recruited in november. the criminal says the latest conscription is routine and has nothing to do with the war in ukraine. russian men, aged between $18.27 can be called up for

a year in the army. kremlin has also outlined its new foreign policy doctrine, which is a, it called so peaceful, open and consistent. he w, russia, analysts, constantine egg, give us his assessment wasn't adjusted, amended, our foreign policy concept of russia with much more focus on interaction with china and india. but also there are 2 things which i noticed in the text and which were actually also stressed by foreign minister sergei level 1st or the document uses the term peaceful coexistence between russia and the united states. this is a solid term which actually meant a balance of power and the balance of nuclear threats. it's quite a throwback to the previous, a rhetoric and our rather against the previous more peaceful rhetoric that was, that was in this document. secondly, what is interesting, the west is proclaimed in this adjusted renewed document as an existential

threat to russia. that is ominous because only according to russian military and nuclear doctrine, only an existential threat can push the russian leadership to use nuclear weapons. so it is definitely shot across the bow, across the west bow to say, we are prepared to use nukes, right? and constantly, just very briefly. but in this context, as of today, russia takes over the un security council, rotating presidency for the coming month. how is this going to work? is not going to work very well because definitely what russia is doing is against the un charter. it is a joke in many ways. i think we're going to see a lot of workouts in the are in the room where the united nations security council sits in new york is going to be i think, quite a lot of shop confrontations for, for the time that russia chairs that go to the house, all right, constantine,
