presidency of the united nations security council, ukraine's leader validate a lot of mirrors. lansky says it's absurd and shows the institution is bankrupt and in football and use a gold keeping howler, helped bar and munich beat title rivals, beraskigy, adornment. to go back to the top of the book, this league with 8 games left. this is ah, i'm pablo phone las welcome to the program. we begin in the united states where at least 21 people have been killed in many more introduced storms battered the south and made west authorities in arkansas will have declared an emergency after multiple tornadoes tore through the state. arkansas residents woke up to see the full scale of the storms,
1:02 am
destruction i, government workers, and regular citizens pitched in to make a start cleaning up right now for me, is this the cleanup? what i can get this cleared and then try to see who else i can a tall order after the massive storm peeled off, roofs tossed vehicles and ripped trees out of the ground. but more help is on the way. i've had the opportunity for the last couple of hours to speak with the homeland security secretary as well as president biden, who have offered a tremendous amount of support, anything that arkansas needs. they have assured us that those resources will be here on the ground. more videos emerge from residents who found themselves in the wrong place. at the moment the tornadoes touched down. ah,
1:03 am
ah, i think only think the destruction was quick, but the effort to rebuild from a storm this large will take time off for more or less talk. now, to meteorologist david no spam who joins us from new orleans. thanks for joining us here on d. w. david. why have we been seeing so many strong tornadoes this year? well, this is our middle of our 20 season here across the united states. kind of start in march ramps up in april in may. so these are common to happen and this time of year, but the storm is actually stronger. got down to about 980000000 bars, a little stronger when you get that stronger system over land. you can get pretty good strong tornadoes. and we did have that from parts of the united states and iowa, illinois, again, arkansas, back into parts of mississippi,
1:04 am
tennessee. even here in alabama as well too. so this time of year we can get these just have that warm, humid air coming up in the gulf of mexico beating that cold, the air from up in canada. the class together out there get a strong front to come in and he's done, or storms thrive. on energy, the warm, humid air mcgee, we did have quite a few of them, and unfortunately this won't be the last we'll have this spring. tell us, is there a link between climate change and the frequency and intensity of tornadoes? right now there's no study that says that's obviously with some warm work, humid air coming from the golf, mexico that does become fuel for some of these storms that may lead to more human error, which though storms thrive off of what studies is still ongoing. as to the small impact of a tornado versus a global impact, or we're seeing the united states is, let's say, particularly affected by tornadoes. can you explain to us why that is?
1:05 am
is just the setup of where we are on the face of the earth. we have our rocky mountain over the western part of the country. we have our appalachian mountains over the east and then between you have this river valley right where the mississippi river is. and that allows all this warm air to come up from the south, meaning cold air from the north. and when the system is kinda collide and those set up like we had yesterday, that allows us to get really strong areas of low pressure. and that helps to form these systems, and we can see these each and every year. and anytime we're getting the spring time, it is 20 season here. now, one thing that you were mentioning there is the, the vast area that's been effected. right. and we're seeing these images and we need these images of the destruction. how well prepared are these areas for this, this type of wild weather that we've been seeing. but since this is a yearly occurrence, it's kind of a way of life here in alabama for sure. we see these 20 years more often than we
1:06 am
would like in a much of those areas to do to. it's one of the things we have. tornado sirens here, kind of sound like an air raid siren. that's great if you're outside, but not good. if you're in your home, you may not hear them, especially at night. the best thing for all the residents here across the country that have a weather radio, which will automatically go off and alert you if there is to be whether we hope most of those people did or your cellphone will actually walk your united states for emergency weather alerts too. thank you, david david, no spam meteorologist joining us from alabama while russia has taken over the rotating presidency of the united nations security council, sparking furious reaction in ukraine caves, foreign minister to metro qu, labor called it a quote, slap in the face for the international community. ukraine had urged to members to block the move, but the u. s. s. there is no mechanism for doing so. the largely ceremonial role
1:07 am
put to moscow in charge of setting the security cancels agenda. well, ukraine's president vladimir zalinski has also condemned russia's presidency as absurd in his daddy address. he said a chose, the council is a bankrupt institution. nevermind. there is no form of tara russia has not committed and there is no reason to stop the reform of global institutions. in particular, the un security council reform is clearly overdue, so that the terrorists states or any other state that wants to be a terrorist state, cannot disrupt peace. terrorists must lose, must be held accountable for terror and not to prevail anyway. while mike martin is a former british army officer and i with king's college london and he told dw news what the russian presidency of the serious security council is likely at what it likely means for ukraine. i think the best way of looking at this is it over the
1:08 am
last year they have been to, to was a one is war of rhetoric and the other is a war that's actually being fought on the ground over territory. and as we've seen a little here that has been a lot of rhetoric, there's been lots of talk with nuclear weapons. there's been lots of talk of all sorts of things and most of them haven't come to pass. so if i were you kind of course, they have to protest about this, but i don't think it will amounts to very much on the ground, which is where the real fight is being for you. so you see this as largely symbolic, not something that will have actual implications on the battle ground. that's correct. so for example, you know, russia can set the gender of the security council, and so they might bring emotion. and that is in their favor. but there are other and i, sri of the other members scared counsel brittany johnson, the u. s. army on the crime side. they all have the time power. so really is just a war, was that nothing will come of it. well that was my colleague,

claire richardson speaking earlier to mike martin moving on our to full and the bonus league, or where barn munich coach thomas to whole saw. his new side beat, his former club rossi dormant for to it, which one of the biggest matches in german football for years with dormant going into the game in 1st place for an awful gold keeping mistake helped sand to byron back to the top. not since the champions league, final of 2013 has a meeting between these 2 old rivals. being such a high stakes, a fair dormant were flying high before the spectra, but in 23 disastrous minutes were brought crushing down to earth. winds opener on 13 minutes was the result of a surreal gold keeping blunder from dormant stopper kagle colbert. a long bull by dialing from a corner from inside the boy and hoff catastrophically misjudged by the keeper. it was a nightmare star for the swiss,
1:10 am
and worse was on its way. a simple corner saw dorman suffer their next set back. when matthias deletes header was turned home by thomas mueller and 5 minutes after that. mueller made it 3 when a luckless kobus buildable at his feet off the diving to stop. leroy sundays. long range effort. 23 minutes into his career as point coach thomas to who could hardly believe his luck, while dalton's dreadful 1st half had their season's work in jeopardy. the 2nd 45 brought yet more dose, starting with a full host, courtesy, or kingsley command. then following this bow on jude bellingham in the buy and bought em rachel fly, it hung a spot to make it for one, but it was a gold, more of consolation than of consequence. much like dorman 2nd school by tanya marlin in the 19th minute. the damage of course,
1:11 am
had long since been done. disaster for dormant as by and retake top spot in the buddhist, eager with 8 games left to play. all right, well joining me in the studio to discuss the classic her is mark meadows from d. w. sports. mark, great to have you here. so as we know it was tom's tools 1st match in charge at byron munich. he couldn't have dreamed of a better start, right? no, he couldn't have the lemming fault to against though the nearest rivals, his former team. of course he left thornton instantly acrimonious circumstances a few years ago, and he wanted to prove the doubters wrong as well because a lot of by him fans were not very happy when he was appointed in the job because they felt well, you know, he's ex, dormant and he's also famously quite a difficult character, only stays at clubs, 18 months to 2 years, and they felt the magazine had been a good job. he was still the running for 3 trophies. it would all h at me,
1:12 am
lee gains in the season. so who is this guy was he brought in? well, he's got a month for 2 and taken by and back to the top of the tale. of course, m being a perfectionist that he is thomas who wasn't entirely happy with how it all went. let's have a little listen to what he had to say. of course it's a perfect result for us. we don't like the to goes that we conceded from marlis, one shot. so straightaway a goal and to be k for re appointed. ah, we have chances for far more goes so and then it's a perfect result, but a lot, a lot of things to, to improve, to market a great day for 2 whole and a barn, not so happy for door meant gold. kate goalkeeper greg or coble took us through his performance today. well, he's been very good for dorman this season, you know, young swiss keeper, and it just all went wrong for him. and we can see here the long ball from a, from the carno, and it does take a bit of a slight bubble there, but still you have to be able to deal with that. and you know,
1:13 am
that just set the tone for the 1st go. i mean that boom just isn't. but then nina, he's looked back. a fortune that was credited is known goal against him because it ever so slightly brushed, is full rather than a 25. well, 60 odd, not so scream of him, of a mechanic. and then this is a 2nd goal and he classes with a post that you see. and the 3rd go, you've got to push that. why there's a goalkeeper, you can't push it straight into the path of the player like thomas molar. so yeah, i forgettable day that the guy got global, and it's a shame because as i say, he's been a very good go give this season and that's what he remembered for. unfortunately, he's handed the title chance back to buy and bought his his coach eating test, which was way behind him. he said, no, graham cove oath. my man, let's listen to what he had to say. the grave corvil is the reason why we are here and having like this kind of games and we've been top off the table because of him . and so we know that he's one of the best goalies in europe, and he was all standing for us this season. and he will be the outstanding and,
1:14 am
and from whence they, on his going to be again, a very important factor for us to be successful. mark foreigner, back on top with a new coach and 8 games left to play was today the day that dormant essentially bid adieu to add their title hopes. probably, i mean, most neutrals in germany and outside of germany for maybe this was a year at the tain seasons of by and winning the time. we've been here before. yes . people for maybe this year because of us. there's no living dorski by and you know, the lost the money was going $40.00 goes a season, the wasn't replace it to change the coach and it's still there on top. so this was dormant chance and they've lost it, bought their 8 games to go buy and lead back to 2 points. so the only means if i lose one match somewhere and don't win win on the same, we can certainly don't want it back on top. so it's not all over, but i am a betting man. i would say sadly,
1:15 am
it's an open funds by now imposition by whether it will be a certainly interesting and a tight finish. hopefully. anyway, at least mark matters from dw sport. thanks and that's all for me. for now, coming up next sports life, take a look at the effect of winning the football world called as an add on argentina. and don't forget that there's plenty more news and analysis on our website. you don't do dot com and don't forget to follow up on our social media cans or handle is do you use? i'm pablo foias for me in the team here. berlin, thanks for watching and take care they want to know with love and banding thing that the way problem but i and everyone with later open every day just getting you.
