of so much to lose shattering the glass ceiling women in architecture. this has to be really, really good. starts april 20th on d, w. ah ah, this is the w news live in from berlin tonight in the us, the f. b. i has arrested the suspect alleged to be at the center of a massive intelligence lead us investigator said 21 year old air national guardsman is now in custody. he's believed to have shared classified documents connected to us spike and to the war in ukraine. also coming up more fighter jets for you,
10:01 pm
great germany approved poland to request to deliver soviet era warplanes to help bolster keith's defense forces and give the poor attempted. irish tom, i shall warrior i'm at home. your prisoner joe biden addresses the irish parliament hailing the quote's bonds between the 2 guns ah eyebrow. gov to our viewers watching on p b. s in the united states and to all of you around the world. welcome, we begin tonight with breaking news from the united states where the f b, i has arrested a suspect over the leak of classified documents connected to the war. in ukraine, federal agents have named a 21 year old member of the massachusetts air nash. no guard his name jack zera. he
10:02 pm
was arrested as armed agents began searching is home earlier today. league documents allegedly reveal western special forces have been operating inside ukraine and set out us spying activities. us attorney general mayor garland gave more details about the suspects arrest. today the justice department arrested jack douglas to shera in connection with an investigation into alleged unauthorized removal, retention, and transmission of classified national defense information to share it is an employee of the united states air force national guard f. b i. agents took to share into custody earlier this afternoon. without incident. he will have an initial appearance at the us district court for the district of massachusetts. i want to thank the f b. i. justice department, prosecutors and our colleagues at the department of defense for their diligent work on this case. this investigation is ongoing. we will share more information at the
10:03 pm
appropriate time. thanks everyone. i want to go now to our washington d. c studio. my colleague ami s if he's been following this story force. i mean, what more do we know about the suspect who was now in custody? well, as you pointed out, brand, he's very young, 21 years old. he was a member, he is a member of the air national guard of massachusetts. this is a branch of the air force as a reservist branch, and he was part of the intelligence wing there. so that's why he had access allegedly declassified documents. now he was also in his private life, the kind of leader of an online gaming chat room. and that was full of members of younger men than him if you can believe it, teenagers, many of them who shared a right wing, political leanings, a love of guns christianity. so this was definitely on the right side of the
10:04 pm
political spectrum. and he leaked the documents there, the allegedly and the new york times in a washington post spoke to members of that group who called him something of a father figure. and they made it very clear that he did not see himself as a whistleblower. these documents were meant to impress them or meant to enlighten them about world affairs, but they were not meant to leave their small corner of the internet as they put it . yeah, well, that is indeed not the case where that's not what happened. apparently we know that a lot has been discovered already by us media. what about federal investigators in the us? i mean, what have they said about this case? he's been charged with the unauthorized leaking of classified material that could carry a 10 year sentence for each of the charges. and we're talking about dozens of documents here that they are charging, that they will be charging him for. now what they haven't said is how he did this,
10:05 pm
that's what they're going to be investigating. the department of defense did say that a lot of this is based on trust. if you do background checks and you gain trust in this person, once they access classified documents, there's not that much you can do to prevent them from taking this out. now of course he had photos of this. he could've also just told people, so there is no full proof method. but if we're talking about the photos here, it's interesting how such a low ranking member was able to smuggle out a photograph of printed documents. now of course, it's going to leave a paper trail if he was the one who printed it out at his workplace. those printers will show will trace it back to him. but of course, that's only after the fact that doesn't prevent him from leaking those documents. so there's lots to be investigated here, brent, and what about the fall out from all of this? i mean, i mean, is it possible right now to measure the fall out and possibly measure the damage that has been done to us intelligence gathering?
10:06 pm
that's the biggest question. all of this, every time there's a major leak like this one wonders what is going to come out of it. we don't know if we've seen the end of these lead documents because they've been searching out of circulating online for a month. and they've only surface because of wider attention from the media. now it has exposed a lot of it has expose weaknesses and ukrainian military, which would be useful for russia. it has exposed us buying on allies, including overhearing conversations of ukrainian officials without their permission . it's the exposed south korea and israel is struggling to decide whether or not they want to spend more weapons to ukraine. but all of this does not come as a big surprise to those have been following these stories closely. just more a confirmation of preexisting suspicions w's municipal the latest from washington army there's always thank you. germany has approved
10:07 pm
a polish request to deliver old mig fighter jets to ukraine. poland bought the former east german aircraft back in 2002. but it needed permission from the government in berlin to send those aircraft on to a 3rd country. germany is not planning to send any of its own fighter jets to you. great. joining me here at the big table now, is gustaf dresser. he is a senior policy fellow with the european council on foreign relations. mr. greg, it's good to see. we've spoken many times. i want to talk about these make fighters just a moment, but let me ask you about this, this data leak in the united states. there's, there's a lot of reporting that it reveals classified, sensitive information about what's going on inside ukraine. how worried are you? well, a lot of these are actually about the russian forces. they didn't reveal all too much about ukrainian on forces, their post a 1000 critical slides about ammunition. still pause on when the might run out.
10:08 pm
mike, if russian is a q, how to conduct a war against ukraine. but otherwise, the slides will provide a detailed, sort of basis for, for operational planning for the russian general. so you don't see that you created military's ability to defend itself to fight against the russian forces. deteriorated at all. not at all, but not so much. i don't think it will have a big impact. it's embarrassing from the united states. i think it has destroyed all of trust because this sensitive information has steered to our controversies with allied. it has probably revealed some details about how do you, americans can penetrate russian information systems, military information systems, communication of the russian, military, intelligence, etc. that might provide proof trouble. some on the way ahead because i guess the russians will start to adjust the way of communication. ah,
10:09 pm
and these precise information has helped you train a lot in the war, but probably changes. we'll see that over the summer, or the russians kind of rate that let me ask you about these big fighters. what does this decision by berlin? what does it mean for the war? well, the ukrainian air force is struggling with aircraft all these me 29 fight as they are interceptors as a p already fight to. so they're good to keep the russian air force away from ukraine space. they're good for intercepting truth, massage, drone cetera. ukraine has operated make 29 fighters in the past, so they're familiar with the type they have some industry in place, unfortunately attacked by the russians, but still technicians that can service it. all, that is fine, but i have lost quite a quantity of that. so they will replenish it. the problem with the make 29 is the ammunition of the me size the west has and also that ukraine have. the russians have more, more than me size in that regard than have twice the range of the ukrainian
10:10 pm
actually i me size. and while you train in asked for, i'm miss i was predominantly r. c. me active for a to homing. so you need to illuminate the d enemy aircraft all the way of the engagement process by russian missiles are fine. forget and that, that gives the russian some edge. that's why ukrainians want f sixteens. you know, there's been a lot of talk about how germany was dragging its feet when it came to the, the issue of sending battle takes to ukraine with these fighter jets. it seems like the decision was made quickly, was made within a day than a day. so, so, i mean, what, what's changed? well, 1st of all, german politics has evolved all these childish debates that we had. i kind of still can remember on the outbreak of the war, there was a debate about mine, old german, foreign g d r. how it will type that, you know, it became a state affair cetera. but these days are gone. the 2nd thing is we have a new defense minister. actually he before the government as such because you have
10:11 pm
5 different ministries that need to have a positive opinion about that before any common decision was made said, we're gonna have a decision by today of course, putting pressure on the rest of the government to really come out with a decision during the day. so he's really personally engaged in providing a train with arms and equipment. and that also is something that was lacking, especially in the ministry of defense for, for the past year. mr. groves was good to have you here in the studio. we appreciate you taking the time to valuable context here with a story that's also developing quickly. thank you. thank you very much. let's take a look now. some of the other stories that are making headlines around the world. the 2nd lawmaker expelled from the tennessee state house of the united states has been reinstated justin pearson was expelled for taking part in a gun control protest inside the chamber, days after a school shooting in nashville, he had another black legislature were voted out by the republican controlled body.
10:12 pm
7 french unions or staging another nationwide strike to protest president microns pension reform plans. there have been skirmishes with police. a court is set to rule on the legality of the changes on friday. the government wants to raise the retirement age in france from 62 to 64. north korea has fired its 1st intercontinental ballistic missile in a month. the launch triggered a scare in northern japan, where residents were told to take cover. the missile flew 1000 kilometers before landing at sea. south korea's military has called the move a grave provocation. lest engines flare around taiwan, germany's foreign minister on alina burbock has said that berlin is working with its allies to prevent more escalation. bare bark has begun a 3 day visit to china where she will hold the talks with senior diplomats. she's
10:13 pm
warned, a regional crisis would have far reaching consequences for the world. china has raised tensions by staging, 3 days of war games around taiwan. and by saying that it will temporarily close air space around the eye. burbock says that it is vital to ease tensions in the region . would i know 1000000 and in the military escalation in the taiwan strait when, as i said, 50 percent of economic deliveries go 3, that would be a worst case scenario worldwide. but especially for us as one of the largest industrialized nations in this team. absolutely. that's being, that is why we are working with other partners here in the region, but also with other patton as well, wide, to reduce the tensions in this region for him to prevent it from escalating further . because it's in our own economic interest. i even which of these contests is tim ruley, it is with the german council on foreign relations. he told me how bare barks trip
10:14 pm
to china fits with initiatives by other european leaders was, was really planned to be such a european sign. the idea was to have my call and european commission president on the line going to get through and shortly followed by a the german foreign minister with the representative before in the affairs of the you, joseph or mr. burrell and food should be got to call it, so he wasn't and he was unable to travel. but the real disaster is that wonderful. i and the french president, my phone, had very different takes on china. so in the end, what we're faced with is that europe doesn't look as one is not standing in unity, but ascending extreme, the different signals to beijing. the question is now of course, how is the judgment, foreign minister wanting to position germany in all this?
10:15 pm
and what do you think she's going to say that will differ from what we heard from the french president last week? i think that i missed a book will certainly make clear, as she said, also in her statement today that europe is deeply concerned about east asian security, including the question of taiwan. she will also, i think, be very clear that we as europeans in mont, from china, not to deliver any weapons, not deliver ammunition of significant scale to russia. and here i think she is very clear in the differences that exist in the perception in the interest between china and europe. and also in contrast to my call, she sees as economic interest of europe de risk game and not for the deepening did trade ties between europe and china. that's precisely what the french president did
10:16 pm
. let me ask you too about the situation around taiwanda. there's been a lot of reports that china is escalating the situation with these military exercises. a no fly zone that's been declared for, for this month. only of course, for a very limited amount of time. nonetheless, this is what china is doing. how much should we be reading into this? what's a very forceful and significant signal. it's really a show of force by people, duration army off china. we should take this very serious. in such cases, such shows a force can really derail and really create an escalation of the prices in the taiwan strait. we possibly massive consequences for the economy, but also for east asian security with the potential of
10:17 pm
a clash between the united states and china. so this is really significant at the same time, we should also notice that the military gains, the military information that china is taking out of this is also limited because china is really not doing proper drills here. it's not stimulating any counter force from taiwan. it's it, this is a show of force, it's not a proper drill. me to ask you to look into your crystal ball. do you see any high level diplomats from the united states visiting beijing in the near future? well, they, you as president of the u. s. foreign minister mister lincoln was set to visit china before the crisis around the u. s. shooting down. that's why balloon. ready for the united states, i suspect that the from china took place at that time mister blinking cancelled his trip by now to our information. it is the u. s. sites trying to rearrange
10:18 pm
high level meetings between the us and china. and apparently what we're seeing is that china has lost confidence that there is quite chances of improving the relations with the united states significantly. so one, now it seems that it's rather the chinese site that is blocking that, but we will certainly see a resumption of these talks. but it seems more that the chinese are not so eager to have them so. so jim ruling with the german council on foreign relations. mister, really, we appreciate your time and your insights tonight. thank you. thank you so much. you as president joe biden has addressed the irish parliament in dublin, he held the relationship between the 2 countries as a partnership for the age of the president has been warmly received on his trip and he spoke proudly of his irish ancestry. he also praised ireland support for ukraine . this is the 3rd day of his visit to the island of ireland to mark the 25th
10:19 pm
anniversary of the good friday peace agreement. during his speech, biden touched on some of the more personal elements of his visit. my good friend, brock obama, is my good friend. his grandfather was a shoemaker like mine, sailed 5 weeks earlier from the same port, the idea they both sale for a new life and thought their grandchild, their great, great grandsons would both be president, i think is really a little bit of irish malarkey or frances fitzgerald is a former irish deputy prime minister and a member of the european parliament. we asked her to describe the atmosphere inside the chamber during blind speech. well, a nope is very joyful, actually, even if it kitty, i thought. but you know, people appreciated us. and of course,
10:20 pm
he gets very sentimental and he's talking about ireland, denise routes because of his mother and day. i think we share it. and now we understand where he's coming from. and we appreciate the time that was a sense of appreciation of the time that he's willing to give us a here in ireland. and you know, who wouldn't welcome really with it in europe and visit i, an american president, offering support, endorsement of policies and financial investment by american firms. actually that was frances fitzgerald, a former irish deputy prime minister d w, rosie birch. i doubt she has more from dublin bite in speech. here at the irish parliament sounded like a real love letter to ireland. very personal speech drawing on his own family's history of leaving ireland in 18. hundreds during the famine in what he called coffin ships. so cold because so he people died making that journey. he talked about those intertwining histories of ireland and the united states. and he said we
10:21 pm
irish talking about our history, really identifying himself within this community here. and of course, president biden is not the only u. s. it is in to have some sort of irish ancestry. in fact there around 33000000 americans who claim some sort of irish heritage in. of course that means quite a lot of voters and something that while a present biden's heart was clearly here in ireland. clearly a very personal speech here, his heart in the room here at the parlor. well, at least one of his eyes may have been looking across the atlantic at irish american voters. because we know this is the president who may be thinking about a potential a re run, owed bid for a re election in the united states. no, president biden also talks about the ongoing war in ukraine. he said there is a competition waiting just now in the world between autocracy and democracy. no, ireland is no sort of big military power. quite on the contrary, it is militarily neutral. that means it's not part of the western military alliance,
10:22 pm
nato, and that is been only sending non lethal aid to ukraine. but on that point, seemed to me like his speaking points were almost written by the irish department of foreign affairs. because he praised ireland for sending that non lethal late, and he also praised ireland for taking in around $80000.00 ukrainian refugees. no, president biden will now go on to one of his ancestral home towns here in ireland in ballina where he will deliver another speech outside a cust of a cathedral for which one of his ancestors supplied the brick. so another look back at that heritage and he says this ship between island and the united states is one for the ages. there was rosie birch. are there reporting from dublin sports news in tennis? italy's lorenzo moves said he has sprung a surprise by knocking of a joke of it's out of the monte carlo masters in the last 16. 16 seed, who said he came back from a set down to win in the serbian world number one didn't take defeat to kindly hit

sheltered coral reef cove tie authorities had closed access in 2018 to mitigate the effects of tourism. and then the pandemic hit, keeping people away even longer and allowing the sharks. they're obviously not the jaws variety to flourish. oh, so now what with what was called a limited reopening in 2022. limited as in $375.00 visitors per hour. and no one allowed in the water over their knees, plus no boats, docking in the bay project my a bay shark watch says the shark numbers are down by 3 quarters from their recent peak that's not unexpected and considered well, ok, we're hoping that we owe with the restriction in place, we can mitigate the disturbance on them. and we're doing this research in hopes

that we can find out the best way for tourism and the environment to coexist. yeah, they have to save it if you will let people go. so it, we will destroy it. definitely. so i really appreciate the, the way that the close, the beats for the swimming. probably it does because to save the nita barring another intervention, environmental stewards, no. this space will remain a tourist destination. but if the coral reef is now safe and $30.00 to $40.00 sharks still come here each day, it can still sort of be a win win each actually going to bring new ah tourism scheme as well. and are we going to benefit from that overall? so we don't talk about, you know, closing everywhere, all reducing the tourism number, but i think the talking about minutes in it wisely as the tourist numbers to this famous beach hold to about 4000 a day. the research and
