9:15 am
we can die with our weapons in the hand. what did the nazis intend when they set up the warsaw ghetto? because i mean close to half a 1000000 people were here. they were crammed into small sections of this estimate section of the city is rounded by a 3 meter high wall though when they set off the ghetto, they did not yet think of the full of the actual extermination they. they wanted to have the jews in the ghetto with separate them from the other, the non jewish population in the late and the cause of the year, 941 day. you both the year off actually killing all those jews. and then with the year 942 starting room, they began with later code exxon reinhardt and the extermination by gas in poland. and in summer 942, they started reporting due from the war. so get it to the trib blinker

extermination camp. and what happened in 943 and a prose right before the beginning of the uprising was that they actually wanted to deport the rest. the last remaining inmates of the ghetto, to extermination camps and to force labor camps. and we know, you know, before the nazis began all of this that worth i had this huge jewish community at the time. just walk us through how important was jewish life in the city where you can hardly over estimate a jewish life in this city. it's almost 40 percent inhabitants of for so we're actually jewish. so while we had there was really a heterogeneous society and it was them, i mean in part they were living, they were living quite separately. and there was an actually jewish life that was not,
9:17 am
not driven by polish society. and they had their own. they closed their shops on saturday because that was chavez. and so this was a separation, but it was a separation by their own choice. and in part they were, well, i mean it was, it wasn't joined society and they were doing trade and they were going to school and all the like. so it's really in poland. they had the overall power to do a share was more than 10 percent. so you can imagine this is a huge and important minority also important actually for social life and especially for intellectual life. chef on the instead, professor of holocaust studies. thank you so much for joining us on this day. as poland marks the eighty's anniversary of the warsaw ghetto uprising. thank you. poland has agreed to lift a ban on transporting ukrainian grain through its territory from friday. polish
