one with lou hopes for a cease fire were high on wednesday, but a low in fighting never came about. sedans, army says it will not negotiate with the countries. rival paramilitary rapid support falls group. it means more suffering for the civilians trapped in the conflict or passive was added to suffolk. i did thought assuring. according to the health ministry, old 20 hospitals have had to shut down because of attacks. moral and lack of supplies about a little lock beside it. 08 more health centers are at risk of closure because of work overload and a lack of medical personnel that we call on all parties to commit to a sustained. she met a tarion pause and fighting as soon as possible. i remember washington says it's sending more troops to its naval base in the nearby south, east african country of djibouti to prepare for a possible evacuation of

u. s embassy employees. other nations are also planning to get their people out. people and willingly kind and helpful to us. at the same time. people think also getting more and more desperate went down to foreclose, can't fight food. and there was a huge fight breaking out into, you know, as people get more and more desperate than these get more and more tense. so people's access to resources is dwindling. and you know, that senate things start turning for the worst out. a virtual meeting with african and arab leaders un chief antonio guiterres called for a 3 day truce starting from friday. the paramilitaries have said they have agreed to a cease fire. but with fighting, still going on many a packing their belongings and leaving while they still can. and earlier i spoke with journalists and political analyst, patrick, obey,
9:05 am
who was based in juba in neighboring south sudan. he told us more about the conditions than the capital cartoon today is deleted. we're hearing of causes, wrapping up our forces have unilaterally unknowns as he's fine beginning this morning at 6 am. however, the army has been quite up above dot and the army. actually we just received, we bought about 5 minutes ago that they are moving in somebody that your area is trying to calm the residential areas, meaning they're trying to look for any support forces that may be in those areas, the residential area to try to ida, you know, address them, neutralize them, what they call in the language. so at the fighting is still on. basically, however, some good visual areas are quiet. we've also just seen some report about 30 minutes ago that some, some people have gone to the mosque in some residential areas, though that one is not for. and the last day they are playing in
9:06 am
a quiet. yeah. we are looking at some live video right now. they're on our screen and we can see actually smoke billowing the scene in cartoon this morning. and so i would just like to ask you, what are you hearing from people who are there about what the situation is today, especially for civilians. yeah, is, is a said the other is visual areas are quiet, but when you to come to the military headquarters, the military hit, what does fighting is ongoing and also in some presidential areas, the army base down armed forces are moving and looking for support. forces that are bad to either neutralize them or try to apprehend them. so that is what is happening to fighting as not really stop, because this is not for, since i've not really reciprocated what day of our forces. i've said that the announcing unilateral sci fi, of course, but many people were expecting that this forces would follow soon,
9:07 am
but they have not said anything. so that effective means that the fire will not hold one side. he's going to, you know, continue fighting. then the other side definitely will retaliate. and in the meantime, we've seen the majority of cartoons hospitals unable to provide service because of the attacks. walk us through why civilian infrastructure in particular being targeted. because this fighting is just happening in the middle of the people, you know, the way to build the app. what is in the middle of the cd, the national security, for example, headquarters, he's in the middle of the city even though i mean, you know what? he's in the middle of the city, you can go to other countries, you'll find a minute out of far away from the city at least some distance. but in all these things are in the middle of the people. so whenever they are fighting, for example, on the apple, you have people who are, you know, that wendy's writing our own, the national security, hit that around the, the presidential ballot. these are all in the middle of the people. and that's why
9:08 am
the infrastructure normally, according to the law or should be respected to not be targeted. now, you know, being destroyed or stop lines being cut to those places. because the same roads that the hospital wants to use to, to move the ambulance in. the sandra w using so that's really, really been selling everything in the city and the city where the fighting is taking place. that's why you've got some power, you know, supply infrastructure up in destroy. what does that apply infrastructure industry because it doesn't need to ok. thank you so much, patrick, or a journalist and political analyst joining us for more and the situation in today. we appreciate it. western defense leaders are gathering at ramstein airbase in germany to discuss more military aid for ukraine. that is as president balloon mirrors, the lensky keeps pressing for full a needle membership. lensky raised the issue during
9:09 am
a visit to keith by nato secretary general young, stolen berk, a long line of western leaders have made the trip to keith. and to this square, where you crane proudly displays destroyed russian tanks. on thursday, it was the turn of nato chief against oldenburg his 1st visit to ukraine. since the russian invasion, president lensky highlighted the symbolism of stoughton bikes arrival. only one group to see you. soon, bruce, when we see this as a sign, consider it as fine a sign that nature is ready to open. a new chapter. ukraine is pushing to join the alliance. here in the capital's europe square, the nato emblem towers above all else. but members have been wary about letting ukraine in, in 2008 at a summit in bucharest, ukraine's membership was shout does a question for the future. at the insistence of van german chancellor,
9:10 am
anglo merkel, with russia's invasion ukraine, joining nato seemed more unlikely than ever. last september, ukraine submitted a new application for a fast tract membership, but it find few supporters in the alliance. the commander in chief of the estonian army was one of the few liberators of february dissing hoyde to sean a. veridian, nato ami on both. oh and they have values which are also very western of history, especially when it comes to our community of values windshield. it was that of, it's like a marcia. i'm firmly convinced that ukraine must be granted a position in the ear and nature. your own local waltz. stoughton. laura gave no concrete answer as to whether the decision would change any time. soon though he did speak of the importance of natal membership, let me be clear. ukraine's rightful place is in the europe land.
9:11 am
thick family. ukraine's rifle place is in natal, a possible accession will be a primary topic at the upcoming natal summit in july. fierce opposition is expected from the kremlin kremlin spokesman dmitri pasco says, may, shall membership for ukraine, which was a serious threat to russia and security. but russia's attacks and ukraine remain, a powerful force driving ukraine and nato, together at spring and date of years. mathias bollinger, who was standing by in chief mathias. how significant is this surprise visit from the nato secretary general? quotes his 1st visit here, and that's of course, significant. he has been one of the most ardent supporters of military support to ukraine, and he has been instrumental in showing up this support. um,
9:12 am
so this is of course, a highly symbolic, important visit. but of course, he's also not the one who possesses the weapons that are provided to ukraine, nor can he make a decision on nature membership. so the symbolic part is really the most important about it. it's his 1st visit, but he's not the 1st person to visit in a short while, as we've been hearing the ukraine defense contact group, that's the alliance of 54 countries who support ukraine meets at germany's ramstein airbase. what's expected there. so, solving back has announced that we can expect further announcements of weapons deliveries are there to have been a few announcements made in the past few days. america has committed another sum of money to delivering amunition and weapons to ukraine and denmark and the netherlands have announced further tanks. so we are expecting more to be announced
9:13 am
at this summit. what is needed most at the moment is of course, ammunitions, or it's a yeah, artillery ammunition, and it's also ammunition for our defense systems that have been used at a large scale during these massive rocket attacks in winter. or if there is anything else on the table, possibly even fighter jets. that's what ukraine once most of, if we're speaking about bigger systems that are not so clear, there's still a lot of reluctance by many countries, including the u. s. to provide these to ukraine. d w mathias bellinger and keith. thank you. well, ukraine has been demanding fighter jets for months and is finally starting to get some poland and stovall here are handing over their soviet era, mig 29th. let's find out more about this aircraft. this is a slow vacuum, mig 29. the model that was once the pride of the soviet union of air force on its
9:14 am
way to ukraine. last month. the mig 29 came into service in 1983 at the time arrival p u. s. built f sixteens, a product of the race to rule the skies during the cold war. ukrainian pilots are already trained to fly the plains. so in theory, they're ready to go. on paper, the mig $29.00 looks impressive. it can max out at 2400 kilometers per hour. it's ranges over 2000 kilometers and it can fly up to 18 kilometers altitude. ukrainian president followed me as a lansky says he's thankful, but that ukraine needs much more food. i'm grateful to poland and i'm grateful to slovakia for their decisions on megs for ukraine. very. this will significantly strengthen the defense of our sky,
9:15 am
but we need modern aircraft to understand exactly what we've been saying. is there a rational motivation for the delay in providing modern aircraft? just taking the word modern is the key here. russia has been using a range of attack aircraft in ukraine some developed decades after the big 29 to top that off, many of the polish and slovak planes headed to ukraine now are in bad condition. they may end up being used to provide parts to repair ukraine's existing air force . he has previously called for a fighter jet coalition for ukraine, which would use newer planes made by different nato countries. that may still come . but for now, the may 29th. we'll have to do to let's get more on that. we're joined now by mike martin, senior fellow in war studies at kings college london are mike,
9:16 am
when you look at it, practically, what difference are the megs likely to make in the war? so things like fight the jets are not decisive in a war like the kind of war the we're seeing in ukraine. i'm what we're going to see from the ukrainians over the next few months is a large ground offensive. and what fight suggests to the role that they play in that they enable the ukrainians to hate targets to mon logistics behind the front of the russian lines, which enables that ground offensive to get away more easily. so that's the role that like like. so what do you make of the commitments that you have been seeing from ukraine's western partners than and also you know, what you've been making of what ukraine wants, which is f sixteens right now. so i was actually testing out yesterday this morning, the weapons deliveries that you guys received over the last year. and they're looking over $300.00 tanks that they have either had pledged or received and
9:17 am
several 100 infantry fighting vehicles, as well as at defense and engineer assets and all the rest of it. and what that looks like to me is about 2 divisions. one of tanks, and one of the armored infantry and then further divisions of mechanized infantry. so ukraine, it seems to me, has got a good force together for the counter offensive, which, which we will know is coming in the next days or weeks. the next level, as i said in my previous answer, is to get some alcohol to improve its a cover because it has some helicopters which enables it hit targets in the russian way, which enables that ground offensive to get underway. so the reason you credit or asking for it is because this is the next level of capability that they need to smooth that. do you think they'll get it? because, i mean, we're, we're hearing that the ukraine defense contact group that those 54 countries supporting ukraine will meet later today. what do you think most realistically will come out of that? i think we've,
9:18 am
we've seen this split throughout the war. i think the big donors so america, this is the biggest, the 2nd biggest as the united kingdom, slightly reticence. first because they don't have soviet equipment to give over. and secondly, because they're slightly worried about providing you kind of capabilities that they can use to have se belgrade in russia, the other countries that are in the contact group. so in the baltic, so you just mentioned poland as well. those guys are a much new russia. i'm be less worried about ukraine using these weapons to strike target inside russia. and so we might see some deliveries of flight the jets from countries like estonia or not be or, or poland, but probably very unlikely to come from the u. s. in the u. k. mike, we've been hearing a lot about a so called plan spring offensive coming up. and, and, you know, when you look at the situation right now, how do you see ukraine's chances going into that?
9:19 am
well, the big problem the ukrainians have to soul is that the most obvious area of their offensive, which is going south from south parisha to get to the coast of the see of as of the splitting the russian forces into is also the area where the russians have built 2 or 3 or 4 defensive lines, so anti time bitches and concrete, po box and so on and so forth. so the ukrainians need to be quite clever about how and where they are sold. and that is, of course, the big question, whether they'll attempt maybe a river crossing in the region, whether they'll try to cut the russian supply lines over the other side of the wall in the northeast. like, i'd like to ask you just briefly before we go, ukraine wants nato membership. that seems to be far away because there's an ongoing conflict. they're not conflicts actually with, with nato's mandate. how do you think we've been talking also about the secretary
9:20 am
down against oldenburg being in ukraine? the surprised visit that he's just made? how do you think that is being interpreted in ukraine? how do you think it should be interpreted? so i think you're talking about ukraine is much of a much this with the, with the visits of all the world leaders that we've seen to ukraine is just on the school. the point that ukraine has the support of basically the rich nations of the world, apart from china, on nato membership. this is not going to happen. well, was going on firstly because nato con, have countries at war seating to it because it triggers all to 5 and thus drools in all the troops civil, the nicer countries. and secondly, probably more importantly, eventually the fighting is going to stop. and then we're going to stop talking and when we start talking, what happens with ukraine and night? so it's going to be a key thing for discussion. mike martin, senior fellow at of war studies at kings college in london. thank you so much.
9:21 am
thank you. here are some other stories making news around the world. russia says that one of its more plans accidentally fired on the city of belgrade, near the border with ukraine. a massive explosion shook the city and left 2 women entered. the defense ministry said that the su 34 plane was flying over the city when an unplanned launch of ammunition curt investigations are underway into the incident of what the pope and donald trump are. 2 of the many people who have lost their blue tick verification on twitter, ceo ellen mosque said that the blue check mark would be removed from all accounts that did not pay a monthly fee. taylor swift and barack obama are among a host of celebrities to retain their blue badge on their accounts. workers i stood guard airport are said to join those 3 other major airports in germany by striking on friday strikes this week have left tens of thousands of air

travelers stranded germany is long distance railway workers also joined the walk out on friday. transport unions are demanding higher pay to cover the rising cost of living. after 4 years of trying, mexico has finally sold its unused presidential plane with tajikistan, buying it for $92000000.00. mexican president, andreas manuel lopez over our door, who has refused to fly in it since taking office in 2018, says that the proceeds will pay for 2 new hospitals in core areas. the new space access hailing the launch of the world's most powerful rock it as a success, despite it exploding just minutes after left after it was the 1st and crude test flight for the 120 minute need our starship from its launch pad in southern texas, the spacecraft is designed to eventually carry astronauts to the moon and to mars
9:23 am
it was one office space ex most high profile launches to did. the largest the spacecraft ever built. hurtling towards the sky. the latest, the step towards horner alone, las vision of reaching mars to rocket sought almost 40 kilometers high until the booster failed to separate from the main body hour was i thing on the k ah, experts believe this basics. his reason to see the launch is a success. this broken is just a completely new design. it's a real departure from things that have been flown in the past. and so they were not expecting it to be fully successful. you have to debug these things and, and so if they proved several things, they proved that the engines could far properly with using this new
9:24 am
b. thank you. oh, they proved that the rocket can fly through was called max q the area, which is sort of roughest from turbulence. right? that, that could crumpled the rock if it wasn't built strong enough. and they proved it could fly and vaguely the right direction. it just couldn't separate, i fly, not a separate from his oper stage. the explosion also did little to damp and d and to z as them off to crowd gather to see the launch. yeah. oh hey. hey. i got this. it was blew up in visual range, which is yeah, hey, that's bad, but it's also great. i got to actually see the whole flight. the 19 was it 900? 68 or 69. i was 89 years old, and i sat in colorado and watched him walk on the moon. so how much fun will that be before i die? to watch him walk on mars, for instance, the 2 must routing the next step will be in a few months time. the spectators won't have to wait long until the space ex again
9:25 am
reaches for the stars and other we spoke with keith cowan, the editor of space ref, dot com, based in washington dc. we asked him whether the launch should be seen as a success despite the explosion. well, as a former recovery, rocket scientist, myself, i guess is what i'm called. um, any time you have a rocket, here's my prop that takes off like this doesn't blow up in the launch pad. keeps going for like 2 or 3 minutes. the all with engines firing and so forth. on that. if it's the 1st time you've ever done it with the biggest rocket, anybody's ever built times to, i would be happy that i got that 2 minutes. however, you know, stuff happened at the, at the upper end of the flight were the 2nd stage in detach. it came back down that had to destroy it. but you know, if you're going to do something spectacular like this with the 1st time, i'm sure everybody a, you heard him sharing at the end were really happy. they got as far as they did.
