7th of april, questioning its safety. the justice department of the bi administration filed an emergency appeal, asking the supreme court to block the lower court ruling. w. washington correspondent, i mean as if explained what this decision means. the supreme court basically ruled today that access to this pill that is important for many women to terminate pregnancies will remain unhindered. they were responding to a case from a texas judge, a federal judge appointed by form president donald trump, a conservative and appealing to anti abortion advocates. and he essentially wanted to stop access to this drug, mr. prestone. based on his assessment that the f d a, the food and drug administration which approves medications had not done a proper job and approving this pill. this went onto an appeals court, which said,

we're going to help this decision, but we're going to add restrictions to it and make it unavailable for women who want to order it through the mail and make it only available through dr. prescription and the supreme court looked at that and for the past week they've been postponing the decision. but they found this. but what does the, what is the state of the boston rights in the us in general right now? well, a lot of women are worried that's because this decision is only temporary. the supreme court was only responding to this appeals court decision to pause the ban on this drug while they look at it. that case will continue in may. so we don't know yet what the future of this one drug will be used. i will be. and as i said, it's used in 50 percent abortions across the country. that's particularly because last summer, the supreme court overturned roe vs wade. and if you're not familiar, this is the landmark lawsuit that enshrined women's rights to an abortion that was

overturned last summer. and a lot of women are turning to other options like abortion pills, which even in states where abortion is banned, they can order this through the mail. they can get basically access to it through health care providers that are not doctors. and it's a way to have an abortion that isn't surround by stigma that you wouldn't have to travel outside of a state where portion is banned as 13 states and united states including. and then in addition, 5, where abortion access is limited based on the how lot far long woman is in her pregnancy for a lot of women, this decision today does send a good signal. it says that the supreme court isn't going to basically allow any kind of case to get through unimpeded, that restricts women's access to abortion. and, but it's also obviously a disappointment for anti abortion activists who wants to make it impossible for women in the united states to get a legal and safe abortion. i mean,
