martin, i said as a journalist who's following the developments in sudan from cairo, a welcome match. what are you hearing about the situation on the ground in how to the situation was obviously a little bit quiet. you mentioned evacuations that took place yesterday. however, it's still quite a catastrophic and fighting appears to picking up. there's still the routine of hospitals that are in here center and the cross wires as well as other vulnerable populations such as prisoners, many of them political prisoners that were, you know, detained during pro democracy demonstrations. so some of them have been able to, to get free. it's uncertain about the circumstances of others, that obviously there's no provisions for them and then the circumstances extremely dire. so, so that's just a little bit of light to shine on, you know,
12:03 pm
of some different demographics within the people in their homes. which of course, as you, as you mentioned, are grappling with severe shortages of basic needs. i was just going to ask you about those, those major shortages of basic needs. can you tell us a little bit about how civilians are coping with the situation? ah, yeah there's, there are a number of inform on that with aid has been slow to get into the country and serve as a provision to be restarted, assist people throughout the complex these committee through their networks have been unlike lying for people. they're trying to get fuel on the black market. medicines for lack market get food to people. and so this is the main way that they're coping. however, despite their quite rolling efforts, it's still quite an issue for many that are deciding whether or not it's really feasible for them to stay. or perhaps they should follow many,
12:04 pm
many others that have made the decision to leave the capital. and many of those who have left have risked dangerous roads and cross the northern border into egypt, which is where you are. can you tell us what the situation at the pseudo on egypt border is right now? yes, i mean it's, it's, it's quite dangerous. just because you know, between egypt and tomb, it's about maybe around 900 kilometers centers, the 3rd biggest country and africa. so it's very, very long road and there's hardly any resources let alone in the capital. but once you leave the capital, if you want to get water or get food, you're really relying on local communities. the trip is extremely tiring. and there's also fear of this checkpoint stuff by militia, particularly the rapid support forces. who are, you know, obviously the main adversary and this for against the army right now are setting up
12:05 pm
checkpoints, reports of putting up people have gone point for looting. so the dangers of trying to get to the gyptian border. it's quite difficult. journalists not now shed in cairo. thank you so much for updating us. thank you so much. out of her military evacuation plane has now touched down in germany from sudan. thousands of foreign nationals have been lifted out cartoon with a fighting showing no sign of a basing. it is a complex and high risk operation. a jordanian military plane touches down in a man. it's mission to bring it citizens the safety, successfully completed downs. rapid slide into conflict has left thousands stranded . the international community is now striving to evacuate fluid aid workers and diplomats still trapped in the country. a little man that had that day 343

jordanian citizens were evacuated from su, done as well as the number of arab brothers, palestinians, iraqis, and syrians and citizens from germany. college men, men, men, philosophy in war. jordans operation follows extraction missions by foreign governments, including germany, italy and spain. as the conflict continues to rage, the u. s. canada and the u. k. have now closed their embassies in cartoon and transported stuff out to sudan in response to escalating violence in cartoon. and because of a specific threats and violence directed towards diplomats in khartoum, we have taken the decision to temporarily closed the british embassy in khartoum to evacuate. the british diplomats, french officials said to rescue flights taken around 200 people, including you,
12:07 pm
appear new, need delegates to safety and your booty. the officials would not comment on reports of a french convoy coming under attack. and dw correspondent mackey moore is at the berlin airport where 2 more planes carrying evacuees will be arriving soon. matt, what can you tell us about the german government's efforts to evacuate it? it citizens from sudan, ashley ano, one of the planes arrived this morning at the airport behind me at the military part of the airport. i would expect at some point in the course of the day, the 2 other plans that are coming via jordan. no, the government and the foreign ministry, and the defense minister keeping very tight lips about the operational details as you'd expect. what they did tell us is that right of the $300.00 plus people that were rescued around half german nationals. the other half are made up of people from 20 different nations, most of the loop you union. and what they said was that if the security situation
12:08 pm
and sudan alozia the will in to launch and to sell more evacuation flights today. and this all comes basically on the back of an acute crisis in the last week. and it's the 3rd time that the german government basically attempted to get to get citizens out. there was a flight that was on wednesday that was abandoned. and then on saturday night, the flight, the planes had to turn back from, from cartoon because didn't have london permits. and at the moment, the government is saying that there are still, as far as the understand around a 2 digit number of people in, in cartoons who are traveling overland to the port, who listened to, to be rescued as well. all right and extremely difficult situation did only correspond at matthew moore at the apple in berlin. thanks. i much are european union. foreign ministers are meeting in luxembourg today to discuss ukraine's appeal for more weapons and ammunition in its fight against russia. the ministers will be debasing a $1000000000.00 euro procurement plan to boost ukraine's weapon supplies. it's
12:09 pm
part of a multi track joint alums, dale the use foreign policy chief, joseph morales says there is some disagreement among you officials, but he says it is a situation of extreme urgency and a decision will be made and for more or less, we can speak to dw, raising birth child is following the meeting and luxembourg for us, and a roman, gunter, and co, who joins us from key. rosie the, the main debate today is this delivery of ammunition to ukraine is not. can you tell us more about that? and the european union has been facing public frustration from ukraine over this plan to deliver ammunition. and that is because the plan was agreed about a month ago. now it's a multi track approach. and the 1st strike is an acer under which e u. countries draw down on their own existing supplies of ammunition is to send them to ukraine. no, that is already in action. or we know ukraine has been thanking you countries for
12:10 pm
that. but there is a 2nd track of that approach. and this is to jointly procure more ammunitions for ukraine for the future. and that is where the debate is like, because there is currently some wrangling over the legal definition of sourcing these ammunitions from the european union defense industry from arm suppliers within the e. you know, a, some have dismissed this as bureaucratic, that's what the fin finished, foreign minister told me on his way into these talks. but on the other side of this debate, which does seem technical in nature is a very genuine desire to be thought. the use arms industry for the future to be able to deliver on the use promised to stay by ukraine fight for as long as it takes that also. so you countries can adapt to what they see as a really radically changed security environment. here on the continent, so the goal overall seems to be the same, but there are some divisions within the european union among members on her exactly to turn that promise that plan into action. okay, so we've got some divisions,
12:11 pm
but again, the use foreign policy chief, joseph burrell, says that a decision will be made roman, if i can ask you what keith hoping for from this meeting in life of the expected ukrainian counter offensive. well, there is a sense of growing frustration here in ki, if with the you, because the use not able seems not to be able to, to find a solution for that for that problem. and to start buying, finally of the shelves that ukraine so urgently needs are ukranian preparing i made offensive operation and according to some calculations in ukrainian media, and the demand for new shells is, is going to grow, am sky high. so a some say that ukraine would like to fire up to $2025000.00 shows a day, which would mean that and if you, you would deliver at once all those shells it would last for about one or 2 months, maybe 3 at best. of course, ukraine's ukraine becomes shells and, and,
12:12 pm
or missiles from other sources outside the you. but it gives you an example of how much is the demand, how highs the demand and people, he and key of they say the, you seems not to quite understand how high the price you crate is paying for. or in this war every day and every hour, just this morning, we saw a ceremony of an o for a farewell to a fallen ukrainian soldier and such ceremonies. our daily routine hearing t, if so are ukraine is losing a lot of its soldiers, especially in the fighting by bahamas, where an of the russian forces nearly control the whole city, but ukrainians are not giving up. and the ukraine in presence landscape, her has said recently again that how important it is to, to keep button would keep fighting the roman thanks so much. that's when the gun sure anchor in the cave and rosy bird. shout reporting from luck from that. thanks so much the best we can bring and mike

marcy, now he's a senior fellow in war studies. i king's college london high by mike lots of talking about b e's our efforts to boost ammunition supplies to ukraine are ahead of this counter offensive. when do you think this can for counter offensive? we'll get going. well, in one sense it's already started. so what we've seen over the last week or 10 days or so, what is called shaping operations. and the idea of those is to confuse the russians and to convince them the attacks going to come from hair ball. and so we've seen stuff in the information space. we've seen those videos statements by ukrainian ministers. and most recently, they've asked for media silence, which is a, you know, a good way of getting the russians anxious. we've also seen some probing attacks, some establishing of a few ukrainian positions which then withdraw. and then last night, we saw surface drones attack. some of the rushing black sea fleet, and so that's the boat, which is
12:14 pm
a classic move to overload russian decision making. so there, worrying about this type of rather than spending that i'm thinking about the counter offensive. so all of these 3 things together are telling us that ukrainians really have already started shaping the battle field and trying to confuse and to see the russian forces. ok, but russia will of course be preparing its troops for that the train in counter offensive. so how do you rate ukraine's chances of success? well, the, the key point is that the russians don't know where this counter offensive the main blow of it is going to fall. and in order to have a successful offense, it like that, you need a surprise, creativity, and perception. and, and those 3 things. the kinds of demonstrates to us over the previous year that, that the very good at those things actually. and they need to, because they're fighting for their territory. on the other hand, the russian forces are quite high rock who quite slow to make decisions. and often
12:15 pm
they continue pursuing a lines of activity the on, on very successful for them. so just looking at the 2 forces, i think we can say ukrainians stand a good chance. the final point i would make is the ukraine has to be successful this year. the west has significantly equipped ukraine for this council offensive. and if they aren't successful this year, then is very unlikely that the west is going to quit them again for another country . so i was just going to ask about that because of course there are.
