questions about the universe of like a super power series? 42 answers almost everything this week on d. w ah, [000:00:00;00] ah, you're watching the w is coming to live from berlin. millions of sudanese faced food and water shortages as violence grips the country. international, a groups warren, but civilians are running low on crucial supplies. being while operations are under

way to evacuate. thousands of foreign nationals from the country. also coming up on the show, speeding up ammunition suffice for ukraine. you foreign minister is our meeting to overcome disagreement on how to replenish depleting stocks and saudi the alarm will look at why these activists glued themselves to the street in the german capital. ah, well, i'm clare richards and a warm welcome to the show. food and water supplies in the sudanese capital har, 2 are running low as clashes between the army and paramilitary forces spread through residential areas. brutal street fight between forces aligned with the 2. rival generals are raging into a 2nd to peak. at least 420 people have been killed and thousands more wounded. many of the injured are unable to get to hospitals. and even when they can,
6:02 pm
there is a shortage of medical supplies. as of earlier to abby all the wild dang, an international development consultant. she told us, how would the situation in sudan has been deteriorating? the situation is pretty grim. fighting. it's entered into a 2nd week. people are still stuck at home. people are trapped in buildings. it's very difficult for civilians to get food to get water cooking fuel. most of the public utilities infrastructure has essentially collapsed, whether it's have come, come under attack or, or the employees themselves have either fled or are stuck within their own homes. so as a result, the situation is quite dire. cartoon is a, have any very dense urban area of approximately 5000000 people very difficult to have access to any kind of food or water outside of the usual commercial
6:03 pm
structures. so people are. 2 really soft free right now. now, as we've heard, foreign nationals are being evacuated at doesn't sound like a vote of confidence from foreign governments or people. they're afraid that these rival generals will escalate their fighting once the international community. isn't there watching? i think that's definitely a fear it is interesting for me as an analyst in the region to watch the evacuation . i think obviously a lot of it is a response to create an upstream upstream response to criticism that could be received with regards to evacuation. after what had happened in afghanistan or in libya, but for those who are on the grounds, many have not been able to leave or have not been able to evacuate. we also know that a lot. 1 of the employees of the un and other organizations made themselves also lead. so for sure, there is definitely a fear that this could mean that the fighting will escalate. and that will be more
6:04 pm
and more difficult to to, to report any types of abuses. that being said the, for in the community, the international community was also quite under attack. these last couple of days and so far the, the fighting have attacked diplomats has attacked at hospital. so it, it doesn't seem so much that the international community being there was able to prevent the extent of the fighting and the, the human rights civilian tragedies occurring right now. and can i make a difference from the outside? do you think, what kind of international pressure you think is needed for the fighting to end? well, i think that it can make a difference because i do think that quite a few countries were concerned about a issue such as the intelligence at their embassies and worried about potential
6:05 pm
hostage situations and with their staff leaving. it does make it somewhat easier for them to perhaps be a bit more firm. we do know that the you had described that one of their embassy had been breached. they didn't get into specifics about which force was behind that . likewise, the u. s. had mentioned that one of the diplomatic convoys had been attacked, they didn't mention which side had been behind not maybe it's unclear but i suspect that there is. a pretty clear intelligence into, into that was, i do think with them being out of the country and not being, you know, having their public officials and that's being out of the country. it does make it easier for them in that sense to be a lot more firm and specific in terms of condemning what's going on. well, thank you so much for taking the time to speak with us today on today is that as well? thank falling developments for us in sudan. as we've heard, hundreds of foreign diplomats and citizens have been evacuated from our tomb.
6:06 pm
foreign officers have rushed to transport their citizens back home as the fighting shows no sign of abating or than a 1000 european union citizens are among those being evacuated. germany has air lifted, 300 people out of sudan, including german citizens and other foreign nationals. the evacuees have been flown out on 3 plains, the 1st of which touch down in berlin to day and very pleased to welcome while maker boris in the auto vic spokesperson on human rights and humanitarian aid for the greens who are part of germany's governing coalition. welcome, thank you so much for speaking with us today. what is germany's plan to get those affected by the fighting out of the country and to safety? well, 1st of all, thank you miss richardson for taking care of this a serious situation. it's very important to gain security back again for helping forces in the country for people we are sent to the country, you know very well that we have lost free people from the world food program
6:07 pm
already being killed in a situation. so this is most important thing that are helping forces are in safe situation. so has this been a priority for the german government? i'm to also evacuate sudanese staff who've been working for germany's government and for its agencies there. well, 1st and foremost, it's not only germany, it's all european and also trans atlantic canadian and you are citizens that we have brought to security. and of course, we are looking into this situation more thoroughly to gain security for the country we called to owning qualities to stay with the ceasefire and to lead to weapons where they are in the, in the walk. some international agencies have also been pulling out the when she is warning of the risk of a catastrophic conflagration. and what are you doing to ensure that the international community, including germany,
6:08 pm
isn't turning its back on sudan by withdrawing its people. but leaving them behind like the previous expert said, costume is an open area with 5 to 6000000 people. and we run into, to your situation that we have starving, that we have cut off of power electricity, that we have a tax on hospitals, et cetera, et cetera. so the catastrophe is about to get bigger. and this is what the international community is worried about. so 1st of all, the, to the main, amos from every for foreign or international community is to put pressure on both parties to main, remain with the ceasefire. and then the 2nd row to go under countries beyond these 2 groups that they don't support these groups in there are in conflict furthermore . and then of course, we have to bring back to health again. this sounds like a dire situation that you expect to escalate just to be clear. how long do you
6:09 pm
expect in germany will be running evacuations from stan? this is a technical question that i cannot answer. i'm very grateful that our support is running. that well, that the operations that are difficult as such, you know that the airport was under fire until the very last moment. so this is a very dangerous situation and i'm happy that everything went well so far. and as we are going people in the country need more support in the future days to also let's talk about political possibilities here. and who do you think has the power and the authority to help try to negotiate an end to the violence in sudan? this is part of speculation, who is the supporting both groups. on the one hand, we have a mid to run in the rapid support forces. and he may have partners in the
6:10 pm
gulf region or in other parts of the arabic world. and we need to talk with those governments to put pressure on him that he puts back the cars in the garage, not say it. on the other hand, we have to take also into account that the country has been very close to a democratic solution that have been in a position on the streets. and it's just something the civil society that we don't, whether we shall not forget about. so we also have to look for the military structure to support democratic processes that, that have been there. and they were very close for elections. so we have to come back on this path. this would be a very reasonable dish. well, thank you so much for taking the time to speak with us on d w. i really appreciate it for us. we are a veteran speaker and human rights and humanitarian aid from the thank you very much, miss richardson. and i can turn our attention now to and you plan to support you.

crane. foreign ministers are meeting in luxembourg. today to discuss keeps the appeal for more weapons and ammunition in its fight against russia. the ministers are debating a 1000000 euro procurement plan to boost your cranes weapon supplies as part of a joint arms deal. but there have been disagreements among some member states. the foreign policy chief, joseph brown, saying those must be resolved soon. ukraine's foreign minister joined the meeting remotely and called for urgent action. and for more on that i'm now joined by d to these burkhart who's following that meeting for us in luxembourg, rosie did the summits result meet expectations regarding supplying arms to crime? well, it depends who's expectations you are talking about. certainly diplomats that i'd be speaking to before these talks weren't expecting a big break through today, but ukraine's foreign minister was certainly pushing for one. the european union
6:12 pm
has been facing some very public frustration from key if over the implementation of this plan to provide ukraine with more ammunition. and i say implementation because the actual details of the plod broadly were agreed weeks ago. already on the one hand it to vote, drawing down on member states existing stockpiles to their own ammunition, sending that to ukraine. that part of the plan is already in action. but there is a 2nd part under which countries plan to jointly procure more ammunition for ukraine, and that is where the debate lies. these talks and now it looks like talks that will continue for the next coming days, a lower level, perhaps among you ambassadors. the knob of the issue here is the technical, legal definition of what it means to procure ammunition from the use arms industry . so going to european union based companies and buying ammunition from them to send on to ukraine at the debate were these about what if there are components in the supply chains from these arms manufacturers which come from outside the european union? or what if one of these manufacturers has a,
6:13 pm
a factory which is based outside the european union would that qualify? no, some member states, some ministers. i've spoken to dismiss this purely as bureaucracy, bureaucracy, if you will, getting in the way of sending bullets on the other side of this debate is a very genuine desire for me. new countries, particularly france, to be thought the use own defense and arms industry on the one hand to try and keep delivering on that promise that you has made to stay by keep site for as long as it takes. i don't the other hand to try and react redressed. use own response for each country's own response to what is they believe a radically changed security environment in the wake of russia's fuel skill invasion of ukraine. and rosie you've been speaking to ministers and others taking part in that meeting, judging by what you've heard to day, do you think it will be possible for you to fully meet ukraine's demands and needs for ammunition in the near future? will ukraine will keep pushing. i think that is one thing that's clear,
6:14 pm
the ukrainian minister joined these talks virtually. and i think from, based on what i've heard from people in the room, it was really more what you might describe of us a virtual dressing don't. i'm told to use harsh language to try and convince these e u members. no, i think the debate will continue over the next coming days among ambassadors at a more technical level. and certainly the european union's foreign affairs, too few except barrels told us in a press conference he expects some sorts of agreements in the coming days. and the often like the stress that it's not just when it comes to ammunition or military 8 that it support in ukraine, but also another tracks, for example, welcoming millions of ukrainian refugees into the european union. and of course, the ukraine also wants one day to have a seat at this very table to one day joined the european union on the says, it's supporting key on that front as well when it comes to reforms. but ukraine, i think you can rest assured will keep pushing for this. keep pushing for ammunition because of course what keith says is, this is really a matter of life or death. thank you so much for that update. that's des bernard

and now started doing his activities secretly. and that is how he went on from most, most of a i believe i see between 20172023 been doctrine nation started taking place. some of the things he taught why that children should not go to school, seeing that a school was evil. and he also taught that women should not have their hair shaved or cut. and he also thought that if any one of his members was sick of them, they sure did. they shouldn't seek medical attention. so those are some of the things that got used people indoctrinated. and he paused, he paused, positioned himself as a leader or a preacher who i talked about the entertain ends during covered 19 the period between 202020. 23 is when he taught many people that you see coffee does come there while he's coming to an end. and that, do you want people to following his message?
