get more news on our website. that's d, w dot com. the it has been a no go among the western allies, f 16 fighter jets to help you create, fight the russians. but that no go is no more for several european countries who say that they're ready to send their jets to ukraine. and we learned today that the us is willing to train new crating and pilots. the all of this is a direct result of non stop lobbying by ukraine's president zalinski. we saw it today when he accused russian sympathizers within the era bullying of turning a blind eye on sunday. he'll pressure g 7 nations to help even more. zalinski is a man with a mission to when 1st the war and then the peace and bring golf and berlin. this is the day the
12:03 am
ukrainians has never chosen the work. our tools didn't go to other plans. the most important thing we can do right now. so global peace and security is to support ukraine. we do not engage in unexcused plunder of other nissan resources. just piece is only possible for us to see that it was and this was pulled packets troops. unfortunately, i'm there awesome in the world and here and are you who are blind, i will say coming up the g 7 accuses beijing of using its economic power to bully other nations. so what is the g 7 planning to do about going to talk about the broad scope of course of activities by the peer c and economics is certainly a part of that. yes, that will be part of the discussion,
12:04 am
but so will be the security, of course in that that we see coming out appear, see whether it's in the east, tennessee, whether it's in taiwan straight or the south china sea. although we discussed the what to our viewers watching on tv, as in the united states and to all of you around the world. welcome. we begin today with ukraine's president and load of mia zalinski. the actor turned president to also bears the title commander in chief, international lobbyist and traveling preacher man. russia's invasion of ukraine is forced to zelinski to take on responsibilities that he could not imagine just a few short years ago. ukraine's armed forces are in an existential battle against russian invaders in the east of the country. in order to equip his soldiers zalinski have spent and much of the last year. lobbying allies defend weapons, everything from battle change to fighter jets. he's expected to do more of that to have to g 7 summit in japan on sunday. we have this report a symbol of
12:05 am
a catastrophic consequences of nuclear war. the peace memorial park in hiroshima, the 1st atomic bomb was dropped by the us in 1945, a compelling backdrop for the scots of the g. 7 summit in japan. at the top of the latest mines was likely not only the devastation of the past, but also the need to pretend that his continuous reminders of russia's nuclear capability. the g seven's host japanese problem is that to me. okay, so the once the summit to be a balance or commitment to a world with no nuclear weapons, to the sad reality hanging over this so much in hiroshima, use of the ukraine war as on the school that nuclear weapons remain as relevant as ever. not just because of letting me appreciate is thrice, but because of the history of ukraine's own nuclear weapons, which it gave up to russia in the 19 ninety's leaving face the tunnel question of
12:06 am
what's happening now? would putin ever having a date, if you train had kept those weapons? for the 2nd year in a row, rushes war in ukraine has the shadow discussions that the g 7 leaders have announced further sanctions against moscow, including on the trade of russian diamonds and of promised for the unwavering support to keys ukrainian president below the music lensky is expected to join them at the summit on sunday. bumble. they pretty much just have those are those very important things will be decided that the presence of our president is absolutely essential to defend our interests. so you spoke with the some of the most, mostly in class with on the sidelines of the g 7 summit science key is also expected to meet their end remotely. because of an effort to convince the indian prime minister to shift his alliance from russia to ukraine. as the war continues on the ground, as no lights off, either on the diplomatic front,
12:07 am
it was the lensky appeared before the arrow bleak today and saudi arabia zalinski, the diplomat, thinking those who support his country and so, and ski the preacher man, if you will, convinced of his moral authority not showing away from calling out those who live themselves with russia, one can only guess what syria and president bush are out of sod must have been fiji . moves terribly. nations have back you in resolutions condemning russians invasion . but unlike the west, they have not imposed any sanctions, and many still maintain close ties to moscow. so landscape choose some leaders of turning a blind, died to russian transgressions you bring us has never shows in the war. our thrills didn't go to other lands. we do not engage in unexcused, this plunder of other nice us resources,
12:08 am
but we will never submit to any for and there's or go nicer. that's why we fight. and i'm sure all your nations will understand these our main emotion. and i'm also so all your nations will understand the main goal. i want to live here in jetta and noble goal to all of you to help protect our people, including you create m mosley community. oh, my next guest is alexander shabba. he is the former ukrainian in batch and into austria. he's also the author of the book. ukraine versus dark is a collection of essays based on the 2 and a half decades that he spent as a career diplomat and speech writer for ukrainian leaders. ambassador, it's good to have you with this get to see you again. what can or, or what,
12:09 am
what could president zalinski hope to achieve by speaking at the era blake summit today, i mean, considering that syrian president, barger, l. a sod was sitting in the audience there listening to it. thank you for inviting me. uh well, uh, i think this visit was a long overdue because this part of the. busy world was always kind of problematically crane and to receive the rush or right now is trying to mall in some way of, of supports among the nations of what they call level self. and they to try to pools as the sounds aren't into release. oh though, uh this was the conducting, you do? those were in the us history. yeah, of course. so it's weird to see the serial rather than sitting
12:10 am
the different one of the leaders considering how much the block is on his hands. but this is like day and by this week, and i'm wondering, what do you make of the offer that has come from the soul of the crown prince. a salman, who many people also think had something to do with the murder of the journalist is jamal, could shogi be he's offered to mediate between ukraine and russia? so the problem in this war is not the lack of mediators are up plenty of those sound. yeah, uh let's oh and this will do. the problem in this war is the lack of goodwill on the part, the rest of the wakeful send it to you on the part of food in the problem, ma'am. so of course that's a great thing. a driver more step to the sodium either has played already a positive role in exchanges of uh, b o w as and as we're,
12:11 am
we're thank him for that. but i think the key problem is in moscow. let's talking about president savanski the traveling man. i mean, if he doesn't show up anywhere else 1st, he's expected to be at the g 7, somebody in japan by sunday. how important is that? just the symbolism, the optics of this trip for zalinski zelinski is not above the symbolism of 6 foot. frankly, you would be surprised, but it is my experience. he's very much results. are we on this now? um, so uh when i heard the other day that he would be traveling to your awesome uh, my 1st reaction was, uh, the must be, uh, some something concrete. she will bring back um to him today. uh, yesterday, last night the guards about the decisions about the f. 16 c. i was just confirmed
12:12 am
in my expectations of for the pick since we are important to and he's a boy that yeah, let me ask you about this. the news with the f. 16 jets the unit, the us is now reportedly willing to train ukrainian pilots to fly these f. 16 fighter jets. what's your reaction to that? this is extremely important. it's a very, very much in 3rd to, to, to receive the so if i the, just as soon as possible, simply because the russian saw the boy you web on the thing that's the, to change of the boy. so this war and this left on this slide and the asian belongs so. so it's like a 500 kilogram. so 1000 kilograms. so whole was explosives, driving on your hands, uh, from the russian. oh, if i took the jets of that uh,
12:13 am
suiting them uh from the restroom stairs or from safe distance. mm hm. if we have something to counter that would be f. 16. uh it would be the co op, so old dreams of on hold for the invaders here in defense minister or like say, resident call um, says that f 16 jet so will be zalinski is main theme at the g 7 summit. the believe it ukraine is getting closer to, to getting the jets and the number of jets that it wants. well, we have seen this ceiling before, right? the 1st, it's a, it's an all go down. you might consider a of them when maybe one of the sides, we'll supply as i'm down. it's a go. so we very much, it seems like we are very much close to this browse step. the answer where else to do it, the steps, but it's not good at the g. 17 saw me it's i think it's a little bit perfect. and as i heard it today,
12:14 am
a report saying that if the americans trained ukrainian pilots to fly the 16th, that they could possibly have the 1st pilots ready to fly in about 9 weeks. so a little over 2 months. that is very, very ambitious. are you convinced that your pilots have the where with all to to make that happen? to me, that's incredibly fast. crystal, i'm not sure whether or bartlett's governmental registar training. the 2nd of all, we have seen how capable our military is. you know, we just took a plan that's are really skillful in fly, are much less comfortable pieces of machinery. them modern western you know, i took that big, strongly clever and big thing we, you know, multivariate, that. so i think to also from the point of view it's,
12:15 am
we'll go fast and sort of well, but frankly in the beginning of this war of river boomers, lots and lots of rumors about western pilots. simple are ready to say to create a new citizen suit to help us out the emissions like that is ukraine. happy with the latest sanctions against russia that have been announced that the g 7 says, well, we are happy. that's the word sorrows. awesome is being pronounced final way because the most of them, that's the main nuclear maintenance and nuclear uh, you know, uh, hands uh, moves over ice uh, in building you, you'd never answers outside of russia. so it would be a huge blow to, you know, these rush on atlantic coast, which is there to spread all over the world. and so just so it has been counting on,
12:16 am
you know, money flowing through a little d as in old maintenance of this new best patients, new football plans for years. and the kids, if they are comfortable, it would be, it would really, really, there are the other things are important, of course to you know, before we let you go, we've been reporting now the last couple of weeks about presidents always keep going to one europe and capital after another either now today he was in saudi arabia, now he's headed for japan. i mean, this is a real diplomatic offensive being carried out by your president. how is that viewed where you are? i mean, is he, is he the pressing the flesh, the way you expect you should as to doing a terrific job. he was doing the service you gave him, his critics are impressed because um, oh, you cannot underestimate this uh optics. and the feeling that you've been young's
12:17 am
gap and seeing our president being this warmly embraced embrace by really the leaders so hopeful for the most important countries of the world. and especially compared to the political installation of russia. beds uh just yesterday was glowing about the 3 t. it was gone the about the number of layers of weapons to the space we saw and it's a little bit so the kind of funny. yeah. um, of course it's excuse us, this advantage is upticks and circles north, north only and optics. alexander, share about the former trading ambassador to austria, ambassador as always, we appreciate your time. we appreciate you taking time on a friday evening to speak with us. thank you. thank you. one of the aims at the g 7 summit in japan is to craft
12:18 am
a unified position against what is called economic coersion by china. the us, for example says that beijing retaliates with economic measures. when other governments or companies businesses do something that it doesn't like such as maintaining ties with taiwan for example. now we don't know if g 7 members will find common ground here, but we can confirm that this agenda item does not sit well at all with b, g 2 volts. when i, china has never engaged in correctional bullying. china has always opposed like i'm in the unit naturalism and coercive diplomacy. we are just to g 7 to confirm to the general trends of the year, which is openness and inclusiveness and refrain from engaging coercive diplomacy and closed and exclusive clicks. as far as the morning, i want to bring in matthew reynolds from the center for strategic and international studies in washington, mathew testified at the hearing of the house for an affairs committee on showing as economic aggression and predatory practices just yesterday. matthew,
12:19 am
it's good to have you with this i, i read the transcript from your testimony. i'm wondering have you received any feedback or reaction from the law makers on capitol hill since yesterday? first i wanna say thank you for having me here today to talk about this important topic. uh 1st i have not received any, any feedback from the hearing. but i will say that the hearing, i think, is indicative of the increasing attention on capitol hill that this important issue is receiving a and the, the efforts by the administration also to counter trying to take another course in your organization. the recently published a comprehensive report on chinese economic co, where coersion, what is the big threat here? yeah, so the big threat from china is that kind of question is, is basically, is to turn is that, does the threat mean, threat of trends, economic origin prevent uh, you know,
12:20 am
allies and partners and taking positions to push back against china as malign behavior in other domains and would you say that china is open about the way it targets? you know, those entities which have displeased incoming compared to the way the west uses the sanctions. i would say it's the opposite. uh, so in our report you mentioned there we, we did a deep dive into a cases of china's economic course, and that's been roughly the last 13 years. and those case studies we identified, you know, some common characteristics of trends. i cannot equation and the report we, we name quite a few but informality really stood out as one of the primary characteristics of trends. i cannot make coersion i, you know, basically likes to mask it. it's economic question behind excuses that way. it gives itself a bit of a possible deniability. you know, i was reading a report just this week that listed countries in the global south that have taken
12:21 am
huge loans from china. and that the terms of paying back those long to load these countries to maybe behind gloves doors to regret taking the money to begin with. and i'm just wondering, and your opinion is what china does, is it really effective or does it actually hurt itself as much as it hurts others? yeah, that's a, that's a great, a great insight that i think from our report and something that surprised us was looking into these cases. we actually saw that china is economic origin, has mixed results that. a estimates even in short term goals actually carried a long term strategic costs for badging and a lot of these cases. so, you know, i think australia space is very indicative of this trend. so australia has not back down and it's caused for an investigation. and to the origin of the coven 19 pandemic. and it's only been pushed closer to the united states since china's economic bullying began in came to the office security agreement in 2021. so you do
12:22 am
see a lot of blow back for preventing when it uses these packets. if you had the year of all of the leaders at the g 7 summit in japan right now, what would you tell them to do in terms of, of developing a counter strategy against this economic bully? so 1st i would say uh, you know, you have to build resilience to try is that kind of equation. and one way you can do that is engaging a free trade agreements with, with like my allies and partners that will reduce you know, china's economic influence on a relative basis and, and helped to speed these market adjustments that we see taking place naturally in response to china's economic course and at the same time, i'd recommend that the g 7 look to develop relief policies and they can use to then provide relief when analite partner is chorused by china. one thing that we identified in our report was that speed. a response is very important that countries are, you know, most likely to back down, you know,
12:23 am
during the threatening process are shortly after those sanctions by china are in place. so the us and the g 7, other g 7 countries should be clicked right, relief and speed, those market adjustments to decrease pressure on the targeted countries. let me ask you that before we run out of time, what role does trade play in, in any us push back against china? i mean, you know, a lot of the countries see china as their most important training partner. yeah, so as mentioned in our report, we sort of uh, you know, recommend a 2 pronged strategy. one on one side. we have a rebuilding resilience on our side. we have providing relief and trade free trade agreements typically are the major component of that resilience side of our accounting strategy to support and this record. so as you mentioned, you know, countries are increasingly seen. i think the majority of countries now see china as their number one trading partner on where the us can offset that influences by getting back into business. a free trade in negotiating free trade agreements with
12:24 am
allies and partners to, you know, decrease that influence on a relative basis that china has over our, our friends may have rentals with the center for strategic and international studies in washington that we appreciate you taking their time to talk with us, we will probably be calling upon you again soon. thank you. right, thank you. as well. the board in ukraine is being waged in the mass media as well as on the battlefield. in our next report, we profile a pop singer whose become when it rushes highest, paid the entertainers. he's also an enthusiastic cheerleader for his president vladimir approved the lead time on. this young senior star is on the rise in russia. things in large par to a powerful fan base the kremlin before the war and ukraine, someone's song sounded very different
12:25 am
now, he counts vladimir protein among his biggest fans. thanks to a drastic change and looks and blurred someone whose real name is to get us laughter on us, has more from the talent show participants to russians, superstar gone as a dread locks. his trademarks now include a wooden cross nicholas and the russian flag on his arm and patriotic song, lyrics like i am a russian in spite of the world to a month transformation was made from lin darling both in our country. a long and shame for tradition exists, of sponsoring and spreading state propaganda for popular music. the city of so let me put some artist,
12:26 am
have chosen to leave russia rather than be part of the kremlin is put back in the campaigns either because of political pressure or to signal the disagreement with a kremlin. what it can stand is one of them, the millionaire wrapper now lives in to buy the car to use them, use them. in this video, he listens to music in a car, next to young ukrainian will place a voice message from his mother, describing their house being bombed the weather out of to conviction or pragmatism. so mind and other artists have chosen a different route. a great to group, so why this is the hype around shem on is artificial. she is real popular. parity is not as big as russian states. media proclaims at the end of the explosion for everyone has listens to his songs. lots, simply because you can't hide from that. just like you can't hide from pushing
12:27 am
space near the house, which the shift to a more patriotic look in sound has been very lucrative for him on. he's often invited to perform at state sponsored shows. the question is whether that popularity will last, once he's no longer needed to amplify more scales for time communication strategies? that is the question. well the day is almost done and the conversation continues online. you'll find this on twitter either. at the w news, you can probably be on twitter at brent golf tv. and remember whatever happens between now and then tomorrow is another day, have a good weekend. everybody will see you right here again on monday. the
