guests and grave or on they've named ukrainian armed forces and said 10 people had been injured in the fighting with many others leaving the area. the city of belgrade remain calm, but it's government claimed that ukrainian drones had launched attacks on the border on monday and tuesday. that's the situation remain for the tile of it. so this is the minister of defense of together with law enforcement agencies continued carrying out the territory. so far you shouldn't return home. i am addressing the residents of graver once the district, but we have temporarily and thanks so that left their homes used to the fighting, broke out about 5 kilometers from russia is voted with ukraine while ukraine has been preparing for counter offensive for months, keith denied any connection to the attack videos posted by armed russian opposition groups, the liberty of russia legion, and the russian. while the typical indicated they may be responsible logics up to

date and time to put an end to the remnant dictatorship spicy. but thank you to all those who support us who send us donations on not 50 boards that citing explosives last year support remind was every day of our final goal, the red square and it seemed to be brave and don't be afraid because we are coming back home voices, russia will be free change. so then we are a see of we just saw both minute to try to the crime and sad thing, crash and, and to distract attention from best modes, which russian forces claim to have captured often more than 9 months of fighting. all right, let's cross straight to keyboard d, w 's, mateus, spelling a. standing by for us. hi them a to yes. now russian authorities have conferred new german attacks in belgrade today. can you give us the latest? yeah, we are hearing that fighting has continued over the day. uh that, um i tend to refile more to if i uh we who uh was good and was reported from the
1:04 pm
region over the days on to you of course, who was in control of watch at the moment. but um, it seems that this has really taken the rest of the uh, as far as using the rest of the industry by surprise and uh, the reactions have been quite some um yeah, almost hopeless by the russian. uh, it's ortiz, um, it seems like this was really something uh that it was really something that these, these valencia call with us is behind them. uh, being able to take the rest is by surprise that were hearing the presence of landscape visited the front line in the doughnuts region. what more can you tell us about that? what was he doing then? he went to the door. this is one of the, uh uh, yeah, one of the towns across this uh, contact line in the dun bos region and the other one being the no and famous uh,
1:05 pm
buff mode, but uh, uh, what it all was another supposed to protect by the russians. this winter where the rest has tried to break through to gain territory. they have no succeeded and involved with. they have advanced within, but whether or not they have not succeeded to break through the lines that to gain a significant territory. many, we've seen many pictures over the winter where russian tanks were destroyed and the ukrainians, being able, as we understand when quite some damage at this point of the front line. he's gone then now to think of those who have been fighting natural hand out metals and to um, post more uh at this very difficult region off the front line. can we talk a little bit more about best move because most go is claiming that the city is now in russian hands. is that correct? i would like to say, claiming since such a date, ukraine has said that fighting continues on the outskirts of the city. what ever is meant by all its goods? because the part, the territory, the ukraine,
1:06 pm
was still controlling until this last to let's say, uh, game of claims encounter claim started with pre gordon and claiming full control over the city on saturday was really also a very fringe part of a small edge of the city the fighting seems to have subsided to bid, not as intense as the past few days. ukraine has basically tried to late a ring of defense around the city. the, the surrounding, the city is flat, but the surroundings are a bit to healy. so what would be a good position to a to who would if they, how to retreat from the city? uh, that's what they have. yeah, that's what most matrix, but expect them to do. and many claim a many expect these findings are still going on as retreat to a bottles. and as a way to engage with russians as long as the ukraine can so that they will not be
1:07 pm
deployed to other parts of the front line. but there is no talk about ukraine gaining control of the city. again, there is talk about the flags. ukraine has been able to advance in the north and the south, however, is far from laying siege. ukrainian deputy minister of defense has said that these games with minimum, let's say, i think so much for the update. that's my team building a reporting from key. so while it remains unclear exactly who is behind the attacks on belgrade, the events do appear to show the russian border regions vulnerabilities. meanwhile, preparations all continuing for widely expected ukrainian counter offensive. over the weekend, the u. s. gave the green lights to keep access to f. 16 fighter jets, but on the ground, what will it take to break the russian front lines while the w william grew craft, has more for months now the front line in russia's war and ukraine has barely
1:08 pm
bunched. let's have a closer look. now, while russia has consolidated positions in the eastern part of the country, ukraine has been able to hold them there. the cost of doing that in human and material terms has been immense. intelligence estimates suggest tens of thousands of debt on both sides, if not more. and the front runs more than 650 kilometers and ukraine's east and south. now, the no man's land between russian and ukrainian forces is littered with fortifications . but keep each side at bay preventing the ukrainians from breaking through. well, let's have a look. first. we have a mine field behind them. rows of paint traps and other barriers. the more mine feels and trenches the likes of which we haven't seen since world war one more than a century ago. behind that we have trenches big enough for tanks and other vehicles
1:09 pm
to get trapped in. and all that is hundreds of meters of deadly terrain. so what to do? well, clear them out. military analysts say that ukraine could use a combination of artillery air, power and specialized mind clearing explosives that would clear a path for ukrainian armour and infantry to pass through. but it would be dangerous by squeezing, advancing forces into a corridor that makes speed and fire power decisive. any lit up could give russian troops to chance to regroup and push back the counter offensive. and that would be devastating for ukrainian forces who have less before i went to despite than russia does. now there's also a psychological element. there is already evidence that russian chronic conscripts are poorly trained, equipped, and motivated. a concentrated ukrainian attack could cause a ripple effect of fear, sparking a chaotic withdrawal. we saw that happened to some degree last year when you crean made its 1st major grab a territory at last. but many of the cranes best fighters have been killed. and
1:10 pm
that makes a successful counter offensive, far from certain, and unclear how much it will actually help reach the broader goal of ending this war. hi, tina is a military expert and joins us now. thank so much for your time. is to see if we can start with the situation in belgrade. at the beginning of the war. russia said any attack on its territory would cause a major escalation. all we likely to see an escalation now because of these cross border rates that was saying in belgrade as the visual, yes or not the military scale. yeah, i would say above, if you look in terms of hybrid welfare to you, i would recall that or the president of the, of the intelligence service kind of just mentioned that we have to hide into an activities of sometimes you get to choose and enjoy me as well, so while storing it up and rushing neighborhoods that we might expect and you'll,
1:11 pm
you'll need a couple of like, likewise activities. i don't think this is a to attractive prospectus and to us. okay. could you give us a sense of how the russian and the ukranian armies stuck up against each other? at this point, how did they compact? impressively, the ukrainian side to unfold is very motivated to making increasing the young people looking old to soviet the equipment that they use, the munition getting model west of systems such as not really much of the as much as i mentioned to it still said, excellent, excellent. lee by intelligence means drones lice and other the other stuff. so that we have the highly motivated to, to true was a lack of privilege to envision that. but those model on the equipment against
1:12 pm
others is the russians who have more causal, though much more group learned much more than emulation. and obviously look at a performance skills that they would need to to be successful in the office. so it's a stuck environment. i'm on this for different reasons. so you're saying that new trainings have got a sort of a psychological edge. how important is that psychological side, that sort of determination that was seen from ukraine a it's a pretty good in the end. unfortunately, you'll kind of maintain that over the years. so as a was pretty long as you need success stories to maintain this, the psychological edge. and i think this is something that the koreans know need. again, a remarkable success. a good provide some for organizations for the ongoing well, which brings me nicely to ukraine's counter offensive, which was being here and
1:13 pm
a lot about it's been expected for a while now. how will we know when it's begun? i'm afraid what we see is what we get to so we on this kind of called the office of which is a tech lang, the federal spots of the front line where they're looking for the weak points and then hopefully try to attempt to push through on one to 3 different regions that to have a, the critical success. and so we, on the offensive and just a point when we will see a more critical the tech remains to be a surprise. all right, and the tracks that i've seen to thank you so much for your analysis. you're welcome. now your defense ministers all in brussels right now to discuss support for ukraine on the agenda will be the joint purchase and the supply of millions of munition rounds. so keeps forces. jasmine,
1:14 pm
defense minister bruce display as has expressed support for plan to train ukrainian pilots and flying at 16 will play. and even though germany itself doesn't actually own the jet ministers are also due to discuss the curacy collaboration between the u. m. a. a okay, let's take a look at some of the other stories making headlines around the world today. and kevin police are investigating the suspect to poisoning of 2 russian journalists who attended a conference here in violin. the women would free so that the cities shall need 2 hospitals. they were in the town and capital for an event organized by kremlin critic miguel protocol states. the close of the symptoms is still unconcerned. 7 people, including 4 children, have been killed at a school in thailand after a roof flocks during the storm. local media is reporting that heavy rain and strong wind scroll down the roof at a sports field where the children were playing. it comes with thailand and since
1:15 pm
it's month soon, brain season and police have begun searching a portuguese reservoir as possible. the investigation into the disappearance of british told les madeline, the count starts of was her. it's just 50 kilometers from the results, with a 3 year old went missing in 2007, the such as on the stitches being requested by jim and will far seats last year, jim and national was formerly made a suspect in the case. now i mean, he is prime minister is offering to recognize neighboring azerbaijan silver and see over the disputed region of nicole in a car bag. the 2 former soviet republics have been, looks and conflicts over the area. for decades. bots of fragile sees fly, it has now paved the way. so peace talks it's a territory that's been plague, but i'm classes for over to 2 years, punctuated by 2 deadly conflicts. but the long dispute over no gore, no care about, could be coming to an end. which one which has a meaning. you recognize this as
1:16 pm
a by john's tarrot trade 8 to 6600 square kilometers. lots so long as, as a by sean is willing to recognize the territorial integrity of our meaning is 29800 square kilometers as a by john's territory. it includes, in going to cover about commit to the claim, number of co council, which on which, who personnel and made the commitment on condition that our servers, young guarantees the safety of ethnic armenians living there. the region was established by the soviets, after world war one predominantly populated by ethnic armenians. it was never the less included within the soviet socialist republic of a servers on since the collapse of the soviet union, armenia and a sub a john have both made claims to the territory. some 7000 soldiers were killed in the last war and 2020. the foreign ministers from both countries met in moscow last
1:17 pm
week for a trilateral talks with russia star gay life rough leaders from both armenia and to serve a. john met you council chief charles michelle and brussels 10 days ago. they are expected to meet russian president vladimir putin on 1st day. he's still seen as a key broker by the posts, so you have neighbors. on some more on this, i'm joined now by richard garrett goes in. he's head of the regional studies center, which is a foreign policy. think time in europe, and thanks so much for joining us, richard. and the go know car back has been for over for decades. can you tell us why our media is ready to give it up? now, as well, what we see is a very difficult post war pattern of accommodation, an adjustment to a new reality. the army and prime minister is in direct negotiations with these laws or bridge on a calendar part. but it's not limited to the car by conflict. this is also an
1:18 pm
expansion of the conflict weyerhaeuser, but john has attacked army near proper. much of the diplomacy we see is as much about the interest stage conflict between army near and algebra drawn as it is over know going a car last. nevertheless, we do see a flurry of diplomatic activity and we do expect a peace treaty to be fine. sometime in the coming months. now armenia is no suffering to relinquish. it's claimed to go in a car, but without conditions is it, can you tell us what exactly those conditions are? well, that's a very good boy because the army and the official position is as an advocate of the security and safety of the art meeting involved, newborn a car ball. this is the ultimate demand and the red line for the art media inside the algebra. johnny maxima list position is unfortunately part of the problem. and what we do see is the arguments don't really have a partner for peace,
1:19 pm
at least not yet. the armenians on the car law therefore, are increasingly relying on the presence of russia, the peacekeepers for their security. i wanted to ask you, how do estimate colombians and they go on a car back feel about this deal, or the army means of no garner, car, or bulk, in my opinion, feel justifiably betrayed, neglected left behind. in other words, armine assembly has no leverage and no longer has the capacity to defend them. this means that they are relying on russia, which increasingly is over whelmed by russia's failed invasion of ukraine. all right, we'll have to leave it that the rich as a girl goes in from the regional studies center in your event. thank you so much for your time. thank you. now spanish police have arrested 3 youth,
1:20 pm
suspected of hurling racist insults the realm of dread forward witnesses. june dounia during sundays, much against valencia. he's been the target of racist abuse on numerous occasions in spain, the season and madrid full. people have also been arrested on suspicion of hanging an effigy of the present and football uh, from a highway bridge. the incident back in january happened on the morning of a match between rachel and the city rivals athletic co, in the spanish comp. now the credit of 19 pandemic traumatized peoples and societies. but it also sped medical advances in a very big way and perhaps know as much as in the field of vaccines where a groundbreaking new platform based on molecules called messenger r n. a saved millions of lives. now this technology is coming into its own and other areas, for example, as a possible treatment for another killer pancreatic cancer. the pancreas plays an
1:21 pm
important role in digestion and metabolism, a tumor. there is bad news. mortality rates and people who develop pancreatic cancer are very high bank of the kansas, so deadly because it starts to metastasized early on, which means to my size move out of the human micro, my. i'm in the primary to minute location and start to migrate your other places in the body. and this is extremely difficult to contain and means that the chances even of the removal of the primary tumor that you have returns. and there become disease a pretty soon. i a demo and a cancer vaccine works by making the body aware of cancerous cells which are able to grow and detected by the immune system. a dose of vaccine contains many copies of a short stretch of precise genetic information. the messenger r n. a. it induces the body to start making specific protein slide. one is found
1:22 pm
only on the surface of the cancer cell. after being trained by the vaccine to recognize the cancer cells, the alerted immune system, defense cells attack them wherever they are. the big hurdle is that because every patients, cancer is different, their cancer specific proteins are also highly individual. so every m r n a vaccine has to be specifically produced for a particular patient. the, this is and you know, makes, and in being able to, i enter my potentially highly mid atlantic androgens that are quite unique to the patients themselves. giving it a personalized focus is, is also a huge, huge advance in a small scale study recently published in the journal nature, researchers use custom made messenger r n a vaccines as part of the pancreatic cancer treatment plan. in around half the patients, the individualized vaccine candidates, based on technology,
1:23 pm
developed by german firm biotech, appeared to prevent a relapse of the disease for at least 18 months. a larger trial is now slated to start this year, or the trial was a combination of 3 things of chemotherapy, or checkpoint inhibitor and the vaccine. and comparing it historically to just check point and and chemo therapy. the results were much better. but we need to see a larger trial, more patients, and a double blind. so compared to the 2 versus plus vaccine. to know that it, it's, it, it's truly a factor this, the new m r n a vaccine therapy does prove effective in larger advocacy trials. it would be a huge step forward in combating one of the deadliest forms of cancer out there.
1:24 pm
derek williams from dw science is with me now to talk more about this vaccine. derek. this all looks incredibly promising, but um, you know, that must still be obstacles to overcome. can you tell us about as well, to understand the obstacles you have to kind of look at what they did. this was a very small phase one trial. it's called so it wasn't even really looking at how effective this vaccine as it was adding the vaccine to the standard of care which involved of removing the primary tumor and then giving the stacks in, along with came over therapy to these 16 patients. now the thing was was that 8 of them came out of that therapy after 18 months relapse, freaking out. that meant might not sound like much, but for pancreatic cancer, that's kind of a big deal. so it's really, really pretty amazing. and the next step then is to move forward and look at real effect in this, in a much larger trial that will, that will also look at bigger questions of the bigger hurdles. like why did it work with some people and not work with others?
1:25 pm
okay, so obviously this is a long process, but i mean, how likely is it that this is going to lead to a successful treatment at some point? well, um, we've learned a lot about messenger r n a over the last 30 or 40 years and independent. it really kind of accelerated knowledge in the field. and this is the sound in terms of theory. and i'm, and i'm quite hopeful that it's definitely going to become a tool in, in the toolbox that, that, that oncologist need in order to address questions like this. there's a huge gaping need and in areas like pancreatic cancer for, for treatments. so moving forward, there's not that big of the biggest difference between cobit 19 vaccines which were very effective and something like a cancer vaccine is that they have to be individualized. so that's, we're really, that's where the kind of the tire meets the road. you have to take the tumor out of the patient and sequence that tumor and then you have a sequence the patient's normal cells and then compare them to make an individualized vaccine. and that is retractions. and what about costs?
1:26 pm
i mean, you know, during the pending to make money was being thrown at occurring to vaccines. was in that could vaccines. i mean, what about this, come this be made affordable. well, do that. that's where we at this personalized medicine thing, where we are individualizing the vaccine, the vaccine, basically creating a medicine for someone now finds that the company that is behind this particular um technology that was involved in this particular study has brought down the costs they say per dose of vaccine of individualized vaccine from about $350000.00 to about a $100000.00. now that are missing, that's promising. that sounds like a lot of money and it is a lot of money. but the question is going to be, how quickly are they going to be able to do it? they've also lowered the amount of time that's involved because you have to jump on top of something like they create accounts are very quickly and how cheap they're going to be able to do is they build more infrastructure in terms of both manufacturing and sequencing. all right, start williams from data only science will have to leave it that, but thanks so much for that. also nice and stuff. and his reminder of our top story
1:27 pm
today, the government of russia's belgrade region has said, drones was shot down during slicing near the border with the train russian officials claiming a ukrainian sabotaged group of the tax inside russian territory. but he has insisted that russian dissidence revolting against the kremlin are responsible. with that you're upset, you kick off, kick off is off next to the latest. the action from the bundle sleek is penalty, and that's not like, i'm gonna give you some can. thanks so much for watching and facing the
