as he saw his important scrolling on the battlefield and he's in, is it in distance ability off his group in ukraine from what progression has been seeing? obviously that has been a lot of statements coming from him. it seems that it is not a crew. so essentially precaution is not somebody who would actually want to run brochure. he's more, he's not that kind of full edition use more of a military man. yeah. and somebody who wants to reform the armed forces and he's criticized the military's approach. he's criticized the top brass and the specially the defense minister showing who and general cross move as well to, to an extend. so i think what he was hoping for is to maybe take a short was place and initiate a reform in the armed forces. according to his own understanding, not for rena, it's estimated that precaution has led around $25000.00 troops from ukraine into
7:16 pm
russia. what means does russia have here to defend itself, considering that most of its troops are actually in ukraine as well? the, the interesting thing is that the, you know, 25000 people look at the statistics and the size of the russian armed forces. it's one and a half 1000000, something along the lines. it wouldn't be that a controversy or for poor tend to try to mobilize the, the forces bloss, he's also using the f as b. he has all the intelligence agencies as well at his disposal. and i think was 25000 wagner is probably trying to intimidate rises. and he is wanting to fight the armed forces because it's going traverse hill from bottom to receive the respective. he wants to stand
7:17 pm
up for the rights of those. a soldiers of the russian soldiers, so fighting them with kind of undermine his whole idea of being patry audit by fighting, being russian and fighting the russians. so i think that putting might resort to using those and also the traction leader or i'm done there of offered to go against was near. so we're seeing or also as are kind of a military group things and not being on the same page. and one thing to support put in seeing how the situation is unfolding right now. the, the u. k. ministry of defense actually said at, and it's daily intelligence update that the quote loyalty of russia. the security forces will be t to have the crisis plan. is that so? do you think that he can actually expect loyalty given that his mercenaries have turned against um,
7:18 pm
in terms of whether walking or can expect loyalty is the thing is uh, was progression. is he has to pay his man, and the money has to come from somewhere. and the, the, the put in and the kremlin has been contracting buckner. so in order to get that support done, to get people on his side, he has to offer them something. now if he breaks ties was put in unless he has another way of generating money. that looks pretty bad for pre barshan. and i think, yeah, many of souls in the armed forces, they will not want to risk being punished and they will want to see how this plays out before making a decision. so there might be people joining wagner undoubtedly, but i don't seems that he can generate enough support as it is now. walk through all these developments mean for the war in ukraine. do you think that they'll have
7:19 pm
that will have a significant impact, as well? as of right now, the forces in your brain remain there. they are not being re deployed to russia and they're still defending the territory currently occupied by russia. of course, it is going to have an impact on the route, this kind of uncertainty and what is going to happen in the crumbling. what is going to happen in moscow? maybe is there a son who's supporting wagner or others might not be supporting him. but these are ways they have orders and as orders, they have to follow last a last they face punishment. so for this very moment, i don't think anything will be changing on that front. and we will see how the events unfold and what comes out of this march on moscow, west or put in. we'll try to stop wagner from reaching the outskirts of moscow west or um, there will be some sort of
7:20 pm
a negotiation because from my understanding wagner wants to meet or progress and wants to meet with troy. go and grosse enough, whether that will be permitted remains to be seen and how the outcome will be. but for now we'll, we'll have to wait and see that as of this moment, i don't think that there was any major impact. but that could change. marina murano is fascinating speaking to you and getting your analysis, military and list at kings college london arena wrong. thank you. thank you for having me and ukraine's president of a lot of marriages. lensky has issued a statement on twitter regarding the unfolding situation. he says, in part, russia's weakness is obvious, full scale weakness, and the longer russia keeps its troops and mercenaries on our land, the more chaos pain and problems it will have for itself later. a

lot for a bit of perspective on uh from uh, in the european context. joining me now is dw brussels corresponding jack power contract, right. to see, so we've heard from the ukranian president for a lot of years, the landscape out of we haven't heard from him. we saw his that his tweet there on uh, on twitter. but what reactions are we hearing from you are paying countries? is this a really interesting set of reactions that we've had essentially, the overarching message is that, that monitoring closely we've heard that from the friends from the foreign ministry, from the german side, from the british side, from the european union, from policy waiting from the european union kind of so presidential michelle, they just say we're watching close to the monitoring what's going on. they are obviously concerned about the effects that it could have on their own countries that very interested in the effects it could have on the situation of the war in
7:22 pm
ukraine. and to that point, we've had a flurry of phone calls between different levels in the political sort of hierarchy . so we know that joe biden held a phone call with a manual micro on the french president. the german chancellor shows the british prime minister richly su not, and we sold the g 7 foreign ministers, including the you foreign policy chief joseph for a have a set of phone calls on and elaina babble. the gentleman from minnesota. all of them saying that holding the phone cause that monitoring close to the now what we've heard from the european union is that they have loans the crisis response unit in the use foreign policy on. so that means a lot of officials from the european union's institutions will have come into the center of brussels into the you quote, and started working to find out exactly what's going on, what they need to know what effects it's going to have on the current situation. as i say on the board and ukraine, but also what potential effects it could have on the, on the countries within the european union. and some of those countries,
7:23 pm
lot very stone. you, if you any a, for instance, you have borders with russia. have issued with the, the, the leaderships that have these 2 statements say, listen, don't cross the border. if you work across the board with russia, don't go, they put in extra border security. so that really sort of stepping up and they want to know exactly what's going on in this very fast paced and changing situation in russia. fast paced, indeed jack, not by the reactions and brussels. do you sense that it's cold? you by surprise? so yeah, it's really hard to say there's a lot of reporting going on, especially in west the media questioning whether the, whether they stayed caught the europeans and the americans by surprise hodson. no, i haven't had any officials. i've been speaking to say that specifically to me, i think the pressure point at which we've seen the wagner group and i ton decided to go towards moscow and to cause this to close. this situation that we're
7:24 pm
seeing unfolding right now. it's kind of hard to predict at what point does somebody break and decide to really and the ties of loyalty that they've had to the crime then on to the point of what it might happen. and if they were ready is 2 different things, because i don't think that it was expected to be fat or oh, certainly, i don't think that was particularly much plumbing in a you food that this could be one of the things that might happen despite regular comments. from printers and it's saying that he was unhappy with the, the leadership, especially of the russian defense ministry. i don't think that they necessarily hearing brussels in the matter. i d u campus who's heavily preparing to deal with this. having said that, they have said multiple times that the new site is unified behind ukraine, and that eventually cries in the unity within the russian leadership will start to a pit. and that seems to be what we're seeing now. the jack, one thing that we have been seeing are at renewed travel warnings and i say renewed
7:25 pm
because of course there have been trouble warnings to not travel to russia. they've been issued again by countries or germany and the u. k. so essentially do countries in to you and the u. k. do they just not want their citizens to go to russia altogether? so yeah, i mean, a lot of people obviously have not been going to russia. it saves the sauce of this war in ukraine. but how people have continued to do business that awesome businesses the continues, what they're in, they're all, bruce americans, germans, the europeans that are continuing to live. that the question is, what happens now? as we say, we know that the situation is extremely tens on his own folding rapidly, but it appears to be a political tend to bucks in russia. no country a, no government is going to one the right national citizens to be involved in that. lots as wait and see whether it's a clear, a plans or develops on how to do that. i assume the some of the discussions, the,
7:26 pm
some of those political leadership to the foreign ministers in the g 7. perhaps even the leaders who were speaking and the, the brace, the germans, the friends and the americans pops david discussing exactly what this means. does that need to be a tongue to withdrawal of a business ties, old personal ties, old personnel ties in russia. right. and i will have to wait and see how that unfolds, the theme, it will follow the developments on the ground 1st before making decisions. but suddenly all of these governments the say, do not go towards the rest of right now. and then jackie are on the ground, obviously in brussels. it's the weekend and you know, often uh, people working there in brussels won't be at, on the job. you said that many of those people have gone into the center. brussels are actually working. now, are we expecting any sort of statements to come in over the course of the weekend, or they type looked at the moment uh, over any type of sort of unified reaction. i don't think we'll expect anything necessarily over the weekend,
7:27 pm
but it's sort of interesting timing as far as the european union goes, because on monday there's a meeting of over 27 of the european union's foreign ministers introduction bug. everybody's sort of preparing for that was already quite a full agenda. there's a lot to speak about, but this will obviously not become a really, really serious talking points for those for ministers. one of them, the left you a name for a minister. he released the statement earlier today on twitter saying that they have been preparing and that they've been expecting a sort of payoff taking players and at the rest of the system and the regime for some time. now there's a strong questions, they will start those discussions. i think what we'll see as long as you're a p and reaction that will come out of that for a minute as meeting on monday. thanks jack jack park dw correspondence and brought this all right. do stay tuned for all the latest on the turmoil in russia in the coming hours. and remember, you can stay up to date on our website, dw, dot com, and you can follow us on our social media accounts for me and the team here in berlin. thanks for watching. take care and i'll see you again at the top of the
