i think we need to debate all of this so that people understand what motivates them to get violence in the 1st place. i know which of us, right? love you understand why your voice. i think that has been too much bother and given what happened. well, there was no need for this kind of uh, c, q, c, a c. shops have nothing to do is we'll have a place. he's under view of what you can already have. public transport will wrap up early and public events being pulled off. as far as he's c, a, the violence will escalate over the weekend. and joining me now for more from pears is on. so if it's unfair, she's a former researcher, as amnesty international france and the author of the book, how the state attacks, our freedoms and the some very welcome back to the w. a frances deploying tens of thousands of police to curb be expected 9 time writing. and your opinion is this the right way of dealing with a protest? so that's a, that's considering interest on the balance easily. tooting damages to public

offices. you can understand why they're deploying forces to try to control the v and rest of the riots. however, i think the have to address also to did the root cause of the anger of use. uh, they came to the street because of the murder of night, but i think a little to choose um, bad memories with the police and memories of interaction that lead to violence and legal violence, mediation, racism, and the, and the government is telling a huge denial regarding the situation between the police and misuse and the suburban and is in just a just decided to uh, can the, the to come down this situation without taking a long term measures. i can bet them into a few years. it would stop again. mm hm. we heard the french president, they're blaming video games for the riots. what do you make of that? um, i think 1st of all, we do politicize look at the situation and i would rather have

contractors in the country is going to be able to replace the un peacekeeping force . nor did they necessarily think that they were going to replace the french operation by con, previously. and so i think that ultimately it's more likely that the main concern is the molly and government right now, is it its own political legitimacy in the capital bunker and the protection around its own regime, which wagner can provide? yeah, let's broaden the scope of it. how much of a b stabilizing force as wagner proved to be in the countries where it has been operating because they have been accused of pushing the molly and government, for example, to push out the un peacekeepers? it's. it's a great question. i think at 1st we have to understand that mercenaries tend to be a symptom of enrollment. is there never be illness themselves. and so the private military companies,
9:13 pm
mercenary forces are going to arrive in theaters that are tend to already be in conflict. that being said, i think it's clear that in the instance of molly uh, the wagner group is, has not been able to bring any type of stability uh to, to, to the country, to be fair as well. uh, neither has the french intervention or, or the un peacekeeping force. but i think that ultimately, that they're keeping intact a lot of the patterns that have made the conflict so difficult. in the 1st place, russia always claimed barger operated beyond its jurisdiction. but really, how involved was the kremlin and wagner operations in africa, in africa, it has, he said, very much depends on, on the countries involved. and so i think with, even with an offer that we have to differentiate libya from the central african republic. unlikely. molly, as well in libya,
9:14 pm
there wagner support for the generals really behalf dar when he was trying to take the tripoli from the g and a government with because quite heavy equipment. we saw wagner pilots into quite jets. that's not the type of government equipment that we see in the central african republic and, and in molly, i believe a lot of the equipment is coming in from china. and so the level of support is actually quite fluid. and i think depending on what moscow's interest strategic interest in, in, in the countries are. mm hm. at the circuit law prof says that wagner is future in africa, depends solely on the countries concerned. but all governments that rely on wagner's military support have close ties to moscow as well. so what would have continued presence mean for relations with russia as well i, i'm just trying to figure out this question myself. i, i think it's, it's, it's important to note that we're still in stock early stages. and at this point that i'm honestly not sure that gift anybody goes and lives off for,
9:15 pm
or the african governments themselves know exactly where it is going to go, or how it's going to play out. i think in some areas, potentially the central african republic. wagner has it, has other businesses that it's set up that that could be a self sustaining. mm hm. but then again, the question would come, what, what kind of support would they get for preparing equipment from the, from the russian military? where would they get that type of equipment down the line? so, so these are the questions that we're going to be looking for in the future to kind of read into the tea was how, what a time to write a book about the wagner group that was john lector, expert on the mercenaries. thank you so much for your time and thank you for having me. and let's take a look now. some other headlines from around the world results top electoral court has voted to bar former president, i are both in are from public office until 2030. the court concluded that he had

9:17 pm
aims to find out more about 2 of the universe is greatest mysteries, dark energy, and dark matter. mark the euclid admission aims to investigate the most mysterious forces of our universe, dark matter and dark energy. unlocking the secrets of these invisible forces will greatly increase our understanding of space. visible matter, responsible for stars nebula and galaxies makes up less than 5 percent of the universe. the remaining 95 percent is invisible. the series that dark matter works a bit like lou, chosing stars and galaxies together. dark energy on the other hand, drives the accelerating expansion of our universe. these mysterious forces are only identifiable by their effects to gain insight into them. euclid has to investigate
9:18 pm
as much of the universe as possible that you need to do is to look at the very large part of the and it does the mission as being optimized the indian to look at about a 35 percent of the old little sky our universe was created during the so called big bang, all the structures that astronomers see today or formed from evenly distributed gas influenced by dark matter and dark energy. euclid will operate roughly one and a half 1000000 kilometers from earth on our planet, dark side. this vantage point will grant it's telescope, a largely unobstructed look into deep space. euclid will collect data from billions of galaxies in various stages of evolution. and in the process, it will get a picture from 10000000000 years ago. that's how long light from the most distant clusters of stars takes to reach the telescope. the gather data will reveal how
9:19 pm
exactly dark matter is distributed in space and how the proportion of dark energy has changed over time. usually that is a mission which will produce at 80 a huge amount of information, which was not the only cause monitored by the way. but with, with the galactic saw the so was of it was sort of either the sciences has thrown on a stormy signs. the euclid emission will run for around 6 years and is widely expected to transform our understanding of the universe, the exciting stuff and keeps counting is here to dig into it a little deeper. he's the editor of space roof dot com and joins us from washington, dc. good to see you again, kate. so
9:20 pm
a telescope setting out to map invisible matter and energy. that sounds like quite a task. what will euclid be able to reveal about these mysterious parts of the universe? well, i like the german drew better due to the material. it just sounds a little more, you know mysterious than just dark matter dark energy, but your introductory piece was rather good in just showing the rather cosmic, if i can use that word of implications that this is sort of like, if you've got a cat, it gets in a bag and you hear it and you go out, you see the bag moving around. you think it's your cat, you're not sure. you can't see the cat, but you can see the bag moving around and the effect it has on things. that's where we still are with regards to dark matter or dark energy we. we obviously see the universe, we see stars and planets. we see them doing things that makes some sense. but then you're saying, why does it do this? if i can't see that? so euclid along with other telescopes, like nancy grace roman telescope,
9:21 pm
that nasa will launch, and other observatories are all going to sort of gang up on this question over the next half a decade. why is it so important to understand dark matter and dark energy? it's good. yeah, it's sort of like we can only see a few percent of what's out there in there within us where we came from where we're going and we have an idea how things work. but there's sort of like the was, it goes to the machine. we don't see everything. we don't see all the particles that are making galaxies, do what they do. and if you want to know how things really work, you need to find out what that remaining 90 to 95 percent is this telescope, this mission, along with others, will make a big dedicated step at that issue. it's really the 1st time that we've spent this much money and time on a spacecraft to do this. yeah, be a good project manager only to saw in the report actually called a cosmic embarrassment that we still don't know what happens in 95 percent of the universe at how is euclid different um 2 previous space telescopes.
9:22 pm
well this is the sort of thing where albert einstein, stephen hawking, and all the smart guys were all scratching your head. so this a, this is a call say again, inability of this is the big as big as the big questions that i can think of other than we're with the universe came from. and we, what were that know that answering. so we figured this one out. so yeah, but this, this is really one of those rewriting the textbook sort of things we won't know exactly how the be we written yet. but that's something that if we talk again in 4 or 5 or 6 years, we may be talking about those k kelly, editor space ref dotcom. many things always create speaking to the page of the 100 and 10th edition of cycling biggest to race the toward the front starts on the 1st of july in the about spain. but the recent death of a problem in cycles has rocked the cycling community with cyclist, you know,
