i'm anthony, help welcome to the program. thousands of people have been evacuated from the homes . as wild vice threatened cities in northern and western canada. the state of emergency is enforced in the province of british columbia and in the remote northern territories, the files of getting close to the regional capital of illinois. we'll hear from the may feel in life in a moment. but 1st, this report a smoke from the mcdougal creek fire trouts the city of colona weather conditions have been making matters worse. strong winds and lightning from a cold front get hot air that's built up over the sweltering summer trying times for the 150000 people that call cologne a home. while the smoke has been insane, we had what was 196 for m 2.5 which is hazardous. it's
9:02 pm
like phasing air quality going on with conditions. rapidly worsening authorities declared a state of emergency in just the last 24 hours. the situation has evolved and deteriorated quite rapidly. in just the last hour, we've gone from about 4500 homes under evacuation to about 15000 homes, families div actuated from their homes across the province. people fleeing the yellow net fire and canadas northern territories have meanwhile arrived in calgary yellow knives, the entire population had to be evacuated. canada's prime minister has promised federal help and praise people for stepping up in the face of crisis. the number of people who have been evacuated has been taking these incredibly long drives to get to safety, doing it in a thoughtful,
9:03 pm
orderly way of being there to help out each other and look out for each other is really the best of much as what canada is particularly people live in the north where the sense of community and looking out for each other is, is truly extraordinary. for the residents of yellowknife, there's some good news firefighters there have so far been able to keep the flames threatening their hometown at bay. oh the i asked rebecca out to the man i feel or not what the situation is locked in. yeah. so it can be challenging. uh we've got some strong winds coming today. we had a little bit of rain yesterday, but that's not enough to to really do anything positive. so the, the wins today could make it challenging because they are coming from the west. so that's pushing the fire towards yellow. nice. um, but i do have to stress that the crews have been working hard boats that the city and private companies here to create what we call fire breaks. so that's removing
9:04 pm
or creating a buffer between the fire and, and the community 100 meters wide. removing all those trees and then the territorial government's been doing the firefighting from the air. so the past couple days have been good and the, the water tankers have been able to, to get up and, and hit those fires from the air and the spot, the toilets with so many and the successful with, to hold back the danger. as you say in these conditions. so is it possible to really say that the danger has completely passed? no, exactly, no we, we can say that so. um, you know, there was, uh, a comment yesterday of oh, you know what? it sounds like a positive situation and i'm like, no it's, it's, um, it's folks are working hard on this and they'll continue to work hard on this. but we're definitely not out of the clear yet. and so, um, you know, the, the good news for, or
9:05 pm
a relief for me yesterday was that so many people were successfully and safely evacuated from the community. we still have about 1600 people that were encouraging to leave. we have of course, on top of that, a 1000 essential workers, but we're encouraging those. those last few folks please please be yeah, of the 1600 to you. uh, one of them you'll still in yell enough to spot the deadline to evacuate. i wonder if i can ask, how are you personally coping and how these last days been for you? yeah. and myself in the cities emergency management team as well as um, the crews working on the ground. we're still here. um, you know, it's, it's tiring, but it, yesterday was also and the positive news. we had more, more cruise arrive, so we had more municipal firefighters to, to arrive in case the fire does reach our boundary and it impacts any buildings. we have more crews on the ground to fight them and we also have more crews arrive to
9:06 pm
to help us the emergency response. so a lot of the logistics and organizing in that regard. so i'm tired, but we're, we're making it through one day, one hour, at a time. it very much dealing with the now, understandably have you had a moment to think about what impact these events they will have on the future of your community. yeah, i to it. so it's been interesting because uh yellowknife is actually host been the host community for other communities in the northwest territories this year who have had to leave their communities due to the wildfire. so in may we hosted um the community of he river and the capital the to 1st nation. their communities were impacted by forest fires. and then beecher co, um we are the there were 9 communities that were evacuated this week in the northwest territories. so i think of our, our territory we've always had under housing, not enough, chose,
9:07 pm
is not suitable houses. and, you know, any houses that we lose is, is a host to many because we're, we're short to begin with. so there's a lot of work to do even, you know, i'm, i'm driving around right now to see if anybody needs a ride to the evacuation center. and we're in the midst of construction projects that it's probably unlikely that we're going to finish before the winter hits. and so there's just all these other items that you don't think about that we're going to have to, to, to start thinking about and facing in the, in the couple of weeks, incredibly stressful hours. we really appreciate your time, rebecca, i'll see them there. if you have a nice, thank you so much. thank you. the grind now with a russian, a strike is killed at least 7 people in northern new price among the dead in the city of chimney. he is a 6 year old shop. more than a 100 other people were wounded. united nations has condemned this as a heinous attack. dousing the flames caused by

9:12 pm
meeting in detailed today in miami is we have whites the details off on the main thing. if i could just get a little more on the fact the vehicle was still, the guy sion was able to meet the asked the president, but soon how significant is the that means that that's very significant because again, you recall that when the human rights, the reports that the president was kept in very difficult conditions. one of the things they did mention that he was not allowed to see anybody or anyone to speak him. so he caused to begin with being able to see him today is a great success if you like. and according to the head of that that additional which is the former president of niger applicant, this allow me, he did say that's the best we seem to get the opportunity to speak with you and explain some of these challenges, which they are now going to take by, you know, to those who are assigned them on this mission. so essentially, this is the 1st time that they are having it sit down together not only with the head of the one task. what else cost with the present as if you liked to hear from
9:13 pm
his side, you know, on the current situation, you know how he's compete on what is happening between like you did say, i mean, i mean the, the head of the delegation did say that there is to sign off to hold the conversation, but of course not to give you the details of what's transpired in those to me is. and while all that goes on the market for context, how much support does the point to have from the people of an issue? it's interesting how we continue to see a lot of people, either pouring now to the streets of miami, in different parts of the country in support of the holding caught, you know, kind of clutching that supposed to be a could be, it's meant to even defend the country the was it close to be now i'm calling to recruits as those who would be able to kind of fight or help in one way or the other. and we've seen them in numbers with young people coming down to see is the one to defend these yet. and these people, in the case of any talk, if it gets to that will be the ones that will be recruited,
9:14 pm
reading 2 sides or to defend the country also provides and it sort of supports. so yes, has continued to see growth. and lots of people showing support, i'm not wavering. i told him the results to defend the country, whatever it takes. we need state deputies, west africa correspondent. i'm not gonna call you. thank you so much. thanks for having me. some spot before we go. and at the football women's world cup, sweden base host nation australia to claim the place within mattel's was unable to win the bronze medal. the spot, the backing of a sold out. i'm proud in brisbin, sweden went ahead when the video assistant referee will this to be found inside the box. for the lena both tucked away the resulting penalty to make it one new. and then call somebody as lani the icing on the light on the cake. rather clinching 3rd place. but this way it's where the path will drive to nail. the final school spine
