not mention russia by name, types of state, including jeremy's transfer. all of self said they were pleased with the outcome comes on and you get to that you could say this was the summit of decisions where progress was made on many issues that are important for the future of the world device of a big book that i do amongst them a clear commitment that the territorial integrity of ukraine and it's regions is not up for debate. not borders cannot simply be redrawn by force and i'm also very pleased that once again, there was a clear rejection that the use of nuclear weapons. i believe these are positive results that we're able to achieve here at the summit to get to here. let's get more on what all of this means. joining me from arlington, virginia in the us is catherine. how does she is the chair of the us india policy
8:07 pm
studies at the center for strategic and international studies? and she is a former us diplomat based in india. welcome to the program. let's get right to it . the g 20, it's now over as being touted as a success for india. where does this leave the relationship between the us and india slow? thank you. it's good to be here today. well, i think it was a success for india. i think it was a success for what the us subjective seemed to have been going in and i think it was the success for the partnership. and so uh, just take the 1st one 1st. no, i think getting the consensus document, you know, was important. there were a range of important issues um, from climate change to health, you know, we still are in a post colored world. so, so we can talk a bit about the, the ukraine part later. but i, i think it is important to stress, you know, all the agreements of that being said, you know, the g 20 is
8:08 pm
a consensus organization that doesn't have inforcement. a lot of it's important says setting an agenda for follow an action for things like climate. so if you look at the u. s. priorities going in, they were to definitely show a support for india. you know, our relationship has gotten stronger in joyce, tremendous bi partisan support in the united states. i think we are comfortable with india's role as a bridge between the global solves and the, and the north in most, in most instances. so i think it, you know, if it builds on our bilateral relationship and our own priorities, you know, there as well. so i think, i think it was a success. i think for india, you know, to be able to demonstrate it, could get consensus that it could be this bridge. you know, the admission of the african union was a significant stop. i think all that is very important. so let, let's talk, you mentioned ukraine and we should get

a little bit into that because it wasn't quite as strongly worded as i'm sure the us and some of its western partners would have liked. it wasn't, i don't same time, it also wasn't nothing. um what was in the us interest just sort of let that, you know, let this document. y'all come out the way it the way it is. yeah. i think the document, you know, if you read between the lines, it's pretty strong against russia. i'm going to agree with your chancellor and in calling out rush and all that name. and if the trade off was getting agreement on these other very important things, for example, you know, a world bank or form which is very important. you know, i think that was a good result for the united states. you know, i would point out, we can't get to work stuff about words times last year. statement was strong, but did it make russia change its behavior a visa view ukraine in any way? the answer is no. so you kind of have to think, what makes you feel good versus what gets results. i think what's going to get results on ukraine is what, you know, your country's been to me my country's between, you know,
8:10 pm
building up consensus. you know, including with japan and korea who recognize the russian thread is not nearly a, you know, original one in europe. so i think for all that, you know, it was successful. you know, i agree with you. i don't think the biting administration would have been totally satisfied with this language. they would have preferred something stronger. so personally would i have them. but i think given the overall results, it's good. all right, catherine had a with some helpful insights there on the g 20 cousin had her from the center for strategic and international studies. thanks very much for your time. i of the germany have won the basketball world cup for the 1st time beating serbia 8377 in the philippine capital manila dennis shoulders for 28 points for germany who was named the tournaments most valuable
