the name of the more. a the most significant border crossing here and the one of crowding us. and that's less than 4 and all this nice. well, um the 4 ish german border it has become a whole issue for both brandon and more so because of the indigo integration of the c, as in both on the for the patients in both countries has for a very long time already been predicting dot this awesome, starting september on to november and would be the most challenging in terms of the documents that you need, the integration. and that's also our mutual says, the interior minister of the stock. some non injunction reasons. he wasn't for the same and that's the border control of the drum on the for his border. i should be reinstalled as soon as possible. is forrest forrest, forrest forrest forrest, participating. you can do that later,
4:07 am
but i do want to get to the, the scandal rocking poland right now about these as potentially being sold to on that it's migraines. what can you tell me about that? what are the details? how does this come to light as well? that's all this the next to the indigo regression, all case you look at that your location scheme, and obviously the wars are trying to select on the line for them to your location. now with the berlin coming into the life against the indigo immigration, that's the chance for the uh, for the government to come forward with the agenda as well. so, um, what would it be done because found out i, you said being laid down by moving and this one in particular because that was, uh, i said the most this study of this call ition right now. um,
4:08 am
in the post and the you has given was on to is to provide a clarification of the matter. are they likely to get it well, for now, what we know is that the german, german, i'm boss, enjoy the month of classification must be on these words. this will mics a request from the foreigners government does not really into the license and nothing has to handle right now. bye bye. we're. so i'm, and the most interesting in this, in this dispute. what's been going on right now, is that the so worrying far see the so we're in fact is solving for on this, trying to play down. bringing about past issues across town, both a and corruption scandal of by the position party. yeah. the opposition and so,
4:09 am
you know, understand we all over this and they called out and the government's double standard here are voters likely to care because poland is going to the polls in less than a months time as well. it doesn't look like it's been affected. it's off, it's a, it has affected the popularity of the on their own incarnation, the nationalist who incarnation is still the king in the falls. last fall of a quote, this again by the by which was my 1st off. that's the website and just for free. so they, that's one of the main, they being phone on the sides of 72.7 percent of the social supports in the country. another fall, as they quoted by the say, 7 cdc mentions the number of 39 percent and it
4:10 am
doesn't look like it's going to be a place to the disadvantage of the ruling. 5 feet of the um the well, the use sounds on the uh, on the issue has to be quite vague and rather delicate. um i know you said that before the media has been, uh, only demanding a courtesy station. uh on that. um that's been sold before we come in the uh, in the same of course. yeah. and it's very likely to we can pull in stance on the european stage, at least when it comes to migration in the foreseeable future. that was a while ago. is that correct? oscar freelance journalist, thank you so much. thank you. meanwhile, politicians and police representatives here in germany or demanding border controls
4:11 am
be reinstated. as numbers of undocumented migrants entering from poland appear to be soaring. authorities say they've accountant some $15000.00 illegal border crossings in the 1st half of the year. and now reporter matthew moore has more fits the crack of dawn on the german tools border on police on patrol. he real clearly had time to recall before that flushed call on 8 men all from syria dropped off with nothing more than the clothes the we're going to, if you look at the moment, this is a daily occurrence and self brandon book. we have to deal with smuggled people every day, the man of taken to the police station to begin the long process of applying for asylum back on the road. and before long a report has come in, trespasses have been spotted on a train track in the middle of nowhere. really,
4:12 am
we workers tried to help. eventually the group is phoned. good for you um, bottom of the in the forest by a small glow who flayed but we can't hang around because we're cold to respond to reports of a suspicious man. the cargo is all too familiar, but nevertheless shocking searches. people including 2 children, pilots, most of from syria, and have made the journey via the balkans. but often there's no tennessee job for police to work out who is trafficked on to his traffic. on top of this, via the drive is an 18 year old syrian who is in the asylum process in germany after a short escape, where he fled on foot. he was arrested for one. instead, you only have to look at the inside of this vines. get a sense of how dire the journey was was panada skins empty ball. so it was not
4:13 am
strewn across the floor. that's barely space for 30 people to stand, nevermind 6. it's all. hi, gina. it gets uncomfortable when above all, it's on the safe side or do you see the number of undocumented migraines crossing germany's eastern border has risen exponentially in recent months? regional ministers to be kind of cool. one of our systems are working in overload mode and the high influx, which is now well over 300, probably 400000 still to come this year. it's causing our local municipal systems to collapse. statements will collapse t once fixed border controls, the likes of which have been imposed on the southern german border since 2015. the government in bel let and however, is not in favor side of the number of illegal arrivals as rising because we don't effectively protect us. alta bowed up and if we don't do that,
4:14 am
then it will make no difference if we put up stationary border controls everywhere . we will be addressing a problem, but not the causes. that's why it's not the right approach. until you find a coordinated approach to border control, human traffic codes will continue to exploit things in the system. an asylum seekers will find the promise of a new life, hard to resist the, the as ukraine bottles to defend its territory against russia's invasion with heavy weaponry. an alarming number of civilians calling on the wrong side of the finding or subject to a horrendous, but effective weapon in law scouts arsenal. sexual violence is crimes targeting women, 1st and foremost. but people of all genders and ages have become victims. i know reports, conflict related sexual violence in ukraine, points out ways the international community and the government of ukraine can help
4:15 am
victims find justice. and also drawing on the experience of the war in bosnia and herzegovina. 3 decades ago, the report says, since the start of the conflict between russia and ukraine in 2014, there have been countless reports of c, r. s. v. committed by the russian forces against ukrainian civilians of all ages and genders as conflict related, sexual violence. of course, according to her reports by the independent international commission of inquiry crane published in october of 2022 conflict related sexual violence carried out by russia and ukraine. is being used as a tactic and a weapon of war. the report details extensive sexual violence against men, women, children, and the elderly was bringing emily appraisers the director of the vendor policy portfolio at the near lines institute. and one of the authors of this report was
4:16 am
pre welcome to the day and rape and sexual violence are often called the cheapest weapon of war the we have any indication as to how widespread this kind of abuse is in the war in ukraine to yes, we do so this report that i wrote with professor tenure domain, doctor kinsey spears we worked with the office of the prosecutor general and ukraine, and so far as their team that works on complicated social violence. they've documented $231.00 cases of sierra see this as of this month, september. but if we're looking at the whole of the war, you know, we, we know this conflict started in 2014 russian affiliated forces have been using sexual violence as a method of war as a method of genocide. and so the, the continued use of sexual violence since 2022 shouldn't cause i'm surprised that anyone has been paying attention. so there is
4:17 am
a sense that this is being used systematically as a means of psychological warfare. yes, the office of the past due to general has evidence that it's being used systematically. is the new lines institute, where i work also has produced the type of reports on incitement of genocide in ukraine and on the ongoing to assign a new crane which has evidence that it is in use in a systematic way. now the survivors of sexual violence are often not only traumatized, but also full of shame. what can be done to give victims of sexual violence in the context of this, this very, very difficult scenario. arranging for any crane adequate attention. so the global survivors, i'm actually did a really incredible study. they did a global reparation study for survivors of complex related sexual violence. and we cited this extensively and i report and they found that interim reparative measures
4:18 am
are very important to survivors of sexual violence and conflict. and that can be anything from free legal aid to psycho social support to child care support, to even just basic you know, the government, acknowledging that these crimes happened and that, that, that they were real and that the survivors have special victim status. there is a lot, a lot of emphasis put on courts and international legal justice mechanisms. these of these are important that they have a place for sure that they can be costly, they can be link the process is an unfair to turn effect on future atrocities. so in the meantime, these types of interpretive measures will be incredibly important and supporting survivors of sexual violence. and once the weapons fall silent, which we all hope is, is sue. how important is it for victims of sexual violence to get a se impossible peace negotiations?
4:19 am
that is incredibly important and not just survivors of conflict related sexual reynolds, but also women. so there is a whole agenda, the word peace and security agenda address. it's a global agenda that addresses the inequitable experiences of women pre during and post conflict. and research has shown that when women are involved in peace negotiations and piece talks, the piece is actually longer lasting, more durable, and more sustainable. and yet, you know, when you look at complex, i see again and again, women are not included when we look at kind of look a sudan over look at the deal. yeah. and so that's one of the reasons why you know, this report is titled the lessons from bosnia. it because we want ukraine to look to the past past complex to learn the lessons. in bosnia, they didn't include women in any way in the p stocks in the dayton peace agreement . they didn't include survivors of sexual violence in any way. and now we see
4:20 am
conflicts bring once again in the balkans and so for ukraine it will be incredibly important when hopefully peace talks happen hopefully soon when you cravens this for the women and survivors of conflict, really those actual violence will have a meaningful seat at the table, one example that you pointed out in your report as a positive, less than that can be drawn from bosnia, was actually the treatment of children born out of 4 time rape. how can they be protected to so in boston, estimated 20024000 children were born of wartime rate, and they spent, you know, their whole lives fighting, correct ignition. they faced, a lot of socialist, stigmatization, and shame because of their status of invisible children. and so when birds go district in bosnia, in 20, uh, last year, around 2022. they recognized children for a long time, right?
4:21 am
as victims of the war. and this is incredibly important because as the population that people don't really think about. and so when we look at ukraine, when we look at how rate this being used by russian forces, there will be children born of we're time rate. and it's incumbent upon ukraine to start thinking about that now and putting in place protections for those children. now. as and we pray of the new lines institute. thank you for your time and for your very, very important research. thank you for having the canada as prime minister justin turned out as repeated claims that indian government agents were involved in the killing of a canadian citizen in canada in june. the victim was 6 that protest her deep sing and jar true though far as may have the claims on mondays, sparking an escalating diplomatic rift with deli. on thursday, india announced it was suspending the issuing of reasons for canadians and called on canada to reduce its diplomatic staff in the indian capital for those currently
4:22 am
at the u one and was asked of canada, was considering a tit for tat response. and here is what he had to say. we call upon the government of india to take seriously this matter and to work with us to shed full transparency and ensure accountability and justice in this matter. as we are country or the rule of law, we are going to continue to do the work necessary to keep canadian safe and to uphold our values and the international rules based order. that's our focus right now. let's take a little deeper with stephanie carman. she's a national security expert and carlton university and canada. she joins us tonight from rome. good to see you. those are extremely serious allegations has to don't provide any details or evidence to back up his claims.
4:23 am
no, he hasn't. and this has been a form of criticism that we've heard from the indian government as well as, you know, grace officials in india. and finally, even domestically, we have seen the opposition party and basically they say, you know, this is pretty serious government and come forward with more information. this will be hard, of course, because there still is an ongoing criminal investigation into this particular incidents. and as a result, i don't think the government will be willing to release that much more information unless there's more pressure from allies or perhaps even within canada. the opposition you mentioned is there. they have reacted rather cautious way. there is talk about the risk of being on the wrong side. they not believe the claims are true. and so that's an interesting question. um we do know that the opposition, the conservative party is,
4:24 am
has closer ties with india in the india diaspora. canada's former prime minister stephen harper is the head of the international democratic union and he has close ties to body. and as a result, um, even though we didn't see a, you know, a fairly strong statement of solid arity from the conservatives when this was 1st announced on monday, it since been walk back a little bit. and the conservative type simply decided to call for more information to be released and have focused on issues related to the other important matters, such as the cost of the bank and interest rate. so i think you're trying to, to back away from this. and i, as, as a result of that you, they want to be see it as, as of course, you know, they've been speaking out about chinese for an interference in canada for a number of months now. and for them to kind of back away when there's a very serious allegations. so the indian for an interference would be perhaps
4:25 am
slightly hypocritical, and kind of as the largest state community outside of india. how is all of this and the diplomatic fall out of course being received by that. so there has been a lot of support from the community in canada. they have been saying for years that they have been subjected to for an interference by india. nothing so serious as murder, but definitely of the monitoring surveillance harassment look in here. it has very confident intelligence agencies and views canada as a national security threat and they act accordingly. right. um, so we do know that there have been this harassment against the community. um by the, the indian government, but um, uh so, so i'm not surprised. i said that that they're very high f b with it. but there's also a large non feet in population in canada as well, who are probably now very concerned about the,
4:26 am
the escalation and the fact that they may not be able to go visit their loved ones . because they may not be able to get to be that. yeah. in canada as allies are in a quite uncomfortable position here, historically close to canada, but pretty much all of them right now. busy courting india is anyone back in canada up here, especially along the 5 ice countries to so that's a great question. um, i think the key thing is here is that no one is disputing the canada's version of events. right. and we do know that the 5 by shares intelligence and i would imagine that the community and government has she there what it knows with um, with its allies, particularly as 5 eyes partners. and we also know that i can't, it is also shared this information was france. and so i think that they wanted to, to kind of preempt any kind of shocking of facts by letting our allies know what's
4:27 am
happening here. but the response isn't extremely muted. i think this is concerning for a lot of canadians, but it's simply comes down to kind of just basic international relations. our old candidate allies have been waiting india for some time as a camera balance to china, particularly in this those specifics, you know, area. and as a result, they don't want to really upsets the possibility of, of an alliance. and in some cases, particularly that of u. k. a trade agreement, right. and so a lot of the statements have been very short, small and not particularly that supportive. and we'll have to leave it there is definitely carmen. thank you so much for your input. thanks for having me on. and that's our times. thank you so much for choosing the w tonight. the
