a major offensive in gaza. the u. n. is warning of a humanitarian disaster. another night lit up by explosions. israel's military earlier ordered more than a 1000000 people living in the north of gaza to move to the south. there were given 24 hours to clear the area, or we've told people they need to evacuate, we expect them to evacuate. we are operating to restore the safety and security to the people of israel. but the u. n says it's impossible for everyone to follow the order moving more than 1000000 people across a densely populated water zone. replace with no foods. what to what accommodation, when the entire territory is under siege, is extremely dangerous. and in some cases, simply not possible. hundreds of families head south in cars and trucks was

really or strikes level buildings. the fear, nowhere is safe college between staying and their homes under bombardment, or risking the dangerous room journey the customer i know because enough suffering and killing. i mean, we wake up to death under the bones. we don't know where to go. where is safe? well, i do not handle them as with gaza under the heaviest, as really bombardment it has ever seen. hospitals are overwhelmed. israel is unrepentant on the whole name, but we are striking out enemies with an unprecedented power. i emphasize it's just the beginning volt lot our enemies have just begun to pay the price even a lot. i can't divulge what comes next, but i can tell you it's just the beginning unless you have a bunch of thousands who monetary and crisis is deepening by the day. as well as

the air strikes. israel is blockading food and water. fuel and power rights groups are calling for secure record or to bring in desperately needed supplies. the, let's get across to our corresponding tanya kramer on israel is a border with a saws us report a live tanya, with israel having ordered more than a 1000000 people in northern cause or to flee south idea now saying it will allow safe movement for gardens on 2 main roads until 4 pm local time. is there a sense that a full scale ground defensive is imminent after that window ends? well, this is of course, a big question, but i don't think they will tell us, you know, when the exactly move in there will still be this moment of a surprise. but i mean what they're trying to do now, what they've been saying since yesterday is to call on the people in northern garza,
12:05 pm
which includes garza city, the heart of gauze, or were over 1000000 people are in this area and have to move down south. they said that they have these 2 main road, so they're usually the main roads when you're in gaza, you traveler from the north to the south that people should take those. and these are some kind of safe quarters to travel to the center of causa or to the south. this is at the moment, uh what they're telling people there to move. because as a a, one of the, the army people, they said they would have hit hard and they're calling on people to move. but it's very, very difficult to hearing also from the, you know, human terry inside. i mean, it's not so easy for people just to move south and, and in this moment, that huge concerns from the un and from international a groups there about humanitarian catastrophe in casa, what can you tell us about the conditions inside? as of right now, i mean, i know there's 22, okay. i to very few people. it's very difficult of communication and you know,
12:06 pm
some of them are actually moving from place to place in the past days looking for a safe space. i mean, those people have moved now to the center, but there many, many others they can do. i mean, if you look at the elderly people, so, or if you don't have a car or something, you know what, what do you do? i mean, if it's just that the situation is a lot of confusion of what to do. i mean, be hearing from the many turn organizations. how di, the situation is also you have to understand, you know, the electricity, uh, at least the electricity. it comes from israel was cut off, that has also consequences, of course. then the main power plant because no fuel is coming in has a cut off. so this mended, at least for the civilian population. there all these problem said how the hospitals, of course, and have problems for the generate of the water problems have problems. so, i mean all of this together, but i think the main issue right now for people in these areas and also in the southeast to have things still as strikes. so is to,
12:07 pm
to find some kind of safe space. but that is basically no safe zone. and gaza, you're basically trapped in the and i think this is a psychologically also, it's a, it's a very difficult situation from what i'm hearing to from, from people. absolutely. tell us a little bit more about military operations on, on friday. we know the is really army said it had conducted raids into gaza, both bottling militants there and also looking out for information about hostages. what can you tell us about what the current situation is like at the border? well we're here near the gauze of board and it's been 2 areas where, you know, there's a built of tongues of the infantry mainly here. i mean, at the moment then not moving. i think they're waiting now for the next step for, for the orders as to what comes next. of course you have a still, we had also rocket barrages coming out in the past half an hour. so from gaza. of
12:08 pm
course is also the navy, around gauze in the mediterranean. you have to attend the re from here the strikes on garza, so the war is going on. and of course everybody's waiting now to see what happens after this. uh, 4 o'clock deadline might be a bit flexible of what's gonna happen next. or we don't know, we just have to to see what the next hours here or ring ring. we will be keeping you posted here on dw. thank you so much, tonya, for your reporting, and as our correspondent, tonya kramer near the border with us us. and i'd like to know bringing shane out low with the norwegian refugee council, a warm welcome. thank you so much for taking the time to speak with us. i understand that your organization has people who been working in the gaza. can you tell us what they're seeing in terms of the humanitarian situation there? so we have 50 to palestinian staff who are from and live and work in gaza. i mean the stories that they are telling us of what they are experiencing,
12:09 pm
what they are seeing. we have no capacity right now to even be able to, to uh, give the humanity providing humanitarian response because our staff needs to focus on themselves getting to safety. we've heard stories from staff about challenges after this order to, to lead to the south in finding vehicles fuel in order to make that way. some of our staff are trying to get to the southern part of god, just by on foot. and the situation is dire, there's no electricity there, except for what people can muster from either the unlimited fuel that remains for generators or solar panels. connectivity is difficult, in terms of people communicating each day. it seems that our ability to even do something as simple as a head count, to make sure that our staff are okay is becoming more and more difficult because the situation is so dire, which is rings total blockade total cj on the guards and strip as your
12:10 pm
correspondence mentioned in preventing fuel electricity, food and water from entering. and then of course, as the announcement from thursday night at midnight, calling on our residents of northern guidance to flee to the south. it must be terrifying. so you have your own people working for you, for you, for their lives. unable to really administer aid to others who need it. are you aware of other organizations who have been able to help supply a there right now, while it's most needed? i know that the when is continuing to provide as much support as it can and other organizations that are involved in emergency response like doctors without borders . but i think most of the humanitarian sector right now or frozen because we, we cannot ask our staff to be responding to a phrase this when they themselves are victims of back braces and need to focus on getting their family to safety. yeah, now the norwegian refugee council,
12:11 pm
a secretary general, we should say has demanded a reversal to that is really military's demand that more than a 1000000 civilians relocate from the north a to the south of gaza. can you tell us a little bit more about what is in this demand and really more about what is at stake here? if this is not heated, i mean it's impossible for palestinians from, for 1100000 pounds demands from the north. to flee to the south, there are not facilities able to accommodate that. number of people moving quickly in northern garza was really the center of economic and commercial life. and whereas the minority people in 1000 lives and, and there just aren't facilities available. additionally, we've heard reports of, of palestinians who are trying to lead to this as being killed. i was trying to escape to the south. and on top of that, there are no assurances that when people do lead to the south that they,
12:12 pm
that they will be protected, the bees will be safe zones that won't be targeted. and so we need assurances that if people are going to be evacuated and it needs to be done in a way in which transport can be arranged in accommodated, that doesn't cause widespread panic and chaos. and that allows for, for one the combination of, of the inputs of people, but also assurances that once hostilities ends that those people are able to return to their homes. thank you so much. shay, now we really appreciate it and that is shayna low from the norwegian refugee council. israel has called up some 360000 reservists and mass troops and tanks along the border with gaza, cause it has been under seasoning your constant ground and air bombardment. israel says a senior hum also military commander has been killed in the air strikes as hard as rail believe to be planning a major round defensive. although no such
12:13 pm
a decision has he had been announced of the i'd like to turn to be strategic implications of more as israel appears to be ready and background defensive in gauze or for more we can speak to marina moran. a more studies researcher at kings college london, marina. a good to see let's, let's start on the ground in terms of military strategy. what does israel need to consider as it's preparing a mass of offensive against him off a good day clear. well, 1st of all, we have seen that there have been grades in order to prepare the military operation and to neutralize as many how must spiders as the israel of military can of the stage. and they have also tried to resolve the hostage situation, which of course complicates a full endeavor. what is needed essentially and, and this is a very complex operation because if the ground operation is to take place on the,
12:14 pm
on the operational and tactical level. what the is really military will need is, 1st of all good intelligence. because as they move from the side of the country side into the urban areas, it will be very difficult to track down the flavors. and because they are very well entrenched from us is very well and changed and they have been preparing for this. and we have seen the past operations have resulted in a somewhat mixed outcomes. so these or been operations because some of is prepared for it and because our civilians also in these areas, the east road military will have to and then know exactly which location they have to target. so it will be very slow and very bloody and very difficult to use military force. so kinetic force discriminant lee in origin, not to create a backlash amongst the population because for every adverse or reset is being
12:15 pm
killed. if the risk population being killed as well. this could essentially, aside from the military and the ethical considerations who the neutral posting and such relation to embrace from us and to become an inverse series. so that is the biggest problem and, and that's why um, precision needs to be taking into account as well as a, as i said, good intelligence command and control. and of course, from the political side that needs to be an understanding how this military operation will wrap up. and what will happen after that, in terms of reinstating the root will floor in the territory and was a israel is ready to commit to a lot of political and monetary assets to palestine to, to the gas a section in or the to cover in there or how this is going to be result, this is uncle.
