the, the, this is the, the news live from the violin super tuesday. viruses make a rematch between donald trump and president joe biden. same and editable. as trump celebrates his sweep of many old states that have been called one northeast and state gets his load and republican challenger nikki haley. the note will say coming up on the program, jordan of the united states and dropped more age into gaza. but with the situation on the ground growing even more desperate. perfect. say the supplies just a fraction of what's happening with china's saber rattling could lead to action
12:01 pm
plan behind us is the chinese city of charlotte with millions of residents. that why that so in the distance over the, if the chinese coast guards on this line right here is controlled by taiwan, correspondent visits a tie when he is islands, where a deadly confrontation, beijing's step stops. the trolls have put local fishing crews on a lot. the money keeps mckinnon. welcome to the program. we stops in the united states when super tuesday has old, but confirm that this november's presidential election will be a re match between donald trump and joe biden. both won a string of residing victories as republican and democratic voters. in 16 states, from alabama to alaska, had veterans to choose the preferred candidate now and the republican side from one
12:02 pm
o, but one state. now that gives him at least $995.00 delegates to hailey's ac 9 full met. south carolina governor had nikki haley did wins a month, but she failed and several other states where she was seen as having a real trunk to disrupt trump campaign. super tuesday, this time did not come with big surprises. as donald trump cemented his hold on the republican presidential nomination, said this is one of the finest run campaigns that anybody has ever seen. that's pretty good, right? as for the real estate, and we have no choice because november 5th, right around the corner. november 5th is going to go down as the single most important day in the history of our country. donald trump's lead technically means
12:03 pm
an end to nicky hayley's campaign. hailey is one to primary so far making her the 1st republican woman to do so. but it won't be enough to win. in a statement her spokesperson said, today in state after state, there remains a large block of republican primary voters who are expressing deep concerns about donald trump. that is not the unity our party needs for success. addressing those voters concerns will make the republican party and america better for the democratic nomination. president biden is the leading contender, and he has no substantial primary challenge. so the trump bite and re match in november looks quite likely. many american voters say they would have preferred new options this year, rather than a rematch from the last general elections. oh, i'm terribly frustrated with this country. i mean,
12:04 pm
the fact that we have biden and trump to choose from. it's disgraceful. it's just disgraceful. we don't need to oxygen ariens and office running for office. there's plenty of other people who were earlier in their careers who could run and do a better job than those to me. a lot of my friends would be voting um, like even my girlfriend hasn't bother voting in cheese, hasn't missed the single one. how come our best choice is joe biden? he's a candidate. he hasn't done anything. you're gonna build up any of his promises. the no, i'm just, i'm just not happy with the, the, the to binary choices. and there was super tuesday behind. all eyes will be on the election in november where americans will pick their 47th president to help me impact all of this. i'm joined now by dw reports, a william blue croft, so it was a dillman at night for trump. that's the show is the fight for the republican nomination. basically, i have an hour with him if it hasn't already been defacto over for a while,
12:05 pm
of course, mathematically, it's not right. the republican candidate to become the nominees for the general election need 1215 delegates and were not there yet. donald trump could maybe clinch that number or pass that number at the end of this month. and let's not forget, that's what these primaries are actually about. despite all this, the asterix and the media spin, it's really just the numbers thing about getting those delegates wanting those states state by state delegate by delegate. but donald trump is on track for that exactly to happen. so it's kind of a waiting game just to check that box and cross that finish line. we don't know what's gonna happen if you hailey, but donald trump is way out ahead as joe biden on the democrat side. okay, nikki haley, as cool as being trumps. only republican opponent still standing, she managed to when only one states um is she basically gonna drop out now? right. leave it to her mind to upset donald trump's clean sweep ambitions,
12:06 pm
you know, that's the state of bernie sanders. so this is a state that is known for its progressive and independent thinking and kind of of setting the status quote. nonetheless, it's a very small state, not very representative, and not enough for nikki haley to really make any in rhodes, in, in catching up to donald trump. that said, as we heard in that report, she is not dropping out yet at least not officially. she has plenty of money, she has good people backing her. she can be are forgiven. is that as we heard of that report from all this past week, trying to say to her a public and party basically, you can get rid of me. william william, i'm afraid we've got some william, i'm afraid we've got some technical issues and we're going to bring this to a place now that thanks so much for the that analysis. that's the w william grew cross now with another set of trump primary victories. the likelihood of
12:07 pm
a seconds donald trump presidency, those loom large and that's made european leaders novice and vigilant. the possibility of a return to an america 1st policy in washington, and even the lack of support for nato has fullest officials here on the continent to prepare for future without the most powerful ally when he was previously president of the united states, donalds, trump describe that you are p and you know as a folk and threatens to make you a p and pay for us protects. now his america, 1st policy good. once again, we shape transatlantic relations for many european politicians. the possibility of donald trump's return to the white house is a nightmare scenario. even though they don't like to speak about it in front of a camera, surely i'm not inviting me to interfere and the internal affairs of a biggest ally. it's um the people in, in america who,
12:08 pm
who had the right to choose the president in private. however, one diplomats describe the apple sphere to us as a mixture of desperation and resignation. and it seems pretty clear that's behind closed doors. officials in your opinion kept a post a working on contingency plans. should there be a 2nd donald trump presidency? i'm sure that there are contingency plans. i'm not going to wait until the last moment. the advantage that they have is some trump is not anymore unlike what was the case in 2000. 162017. is not an unknown person any more of the present during his 1st term in office, trump impose terence on trade with you members. he pulled out of the paris climate agreements and in what was the biggest shock he repeatedly question, do you ask commitments to the nato alliance now he's delivering the same messages on that companion trail. one of the presidents of a big country stood up said,
12:09 pm
well sir, uh if we don't pay and were attacked by russia, will you protect us? i said, no, i would not protect you. in fact, i would encourage them to do whatever the hell they want. you got to say, so could a 2nd, trump presidency mean the end of nato. it's not just about whether the united states is in or out. i mean, almost certainly the united states would stay in, but there are, there are levels of being in and other allies on occasion have, have salt, lower levels of involvement with nato, withdrawing from the integrated military command, for example. or simply simply focusing on areas outside of the european security or of it, which would leave europe in a position of having to sort of somehow fill that gap. could you fill that gap? not into short term experts say nate to without us would be weak. you ups, nuclear deterrence, without american nuclear weapons, inconceivable, at least for now and supporting ukraine without money and arms from washington
12:10 pm
would be much more difficult. so what can even leaders do? no matter what will happen in us? europe has to be able to do more on our own and in cooperation with our allies. this is a wake of code for, for everybody in europe to do more for, for european own defense, doing more for you a p and secuity could help, but it will take time for countries to be able to do that. and you are p and the union army 1st discussed decades ago is still a distant endeavor. and in the meantime, if one looks at the experience of the trumpet administration that we had, clearly he views the world, not just through nation states, but through individual leaderships, individual leaders. i can say not so much alliances, not so much. agreements, sometimes not even states but, but individuals. and so those individual relationships matter. building relationships, stepping up on defense,
12:11 pm
europeans bracing foot from $2.00. and they know that a new face and a transatlantic relationship might be link anyway, regardless of who will win the race to the white house. now of some technical issues, we are back now with the w reports of william blue cross for more on those super tuesday. those seeing results in the us. william now i was expected president terabyte and did have a strong show and didn't he but was already warning signs he if uh, november's presidential election as well. sure. um, you know, neither side or neither candidate is particularly beloved by a lot of americans. of course, both have their die hard supporters. you have the mag of people on trump side. you have, you know, try to insure democrats under biting. but that's not enough to win elections that might be enough to win a primary. and you have a lot of dissatisfaction in a system that is geared towards a 2 party and 2 candidate system. you have 2 choices. and that is,
12:12 pm
it's very hard for any kind of 3rd candidate or outside candidate to break in. regardless how much of a fever pitch there might be for some, some kind of 3rd option among the electorate. so both sides, donald trump, angel bite in assuming they will be their parties, respected nominees face a lot of trouble, especially in a political climate. whereas we've seen over the last several elections, it really is decided on the margin. so it doesn't matter that tens of millions of people come out to vote for you. what matters more are the thousands or few tens of thousands who might not. and for every story you hear about someone who might or vote or not vote anymore for donald trump or joe biden, you hear the other side as well. so how that really breaks down? that's what's going to decide november 2024. okay, and then there's of course, the polls that are showing that the majority of americans that really want either trump or by and i mean we heard in our pool area that just saying really, i mean these 2 old guys is this? oh, we've got, i mean, is it safe to say the based on these results though?
12:13 pm
that is exactly what people are going to get. trump versus buying or? yeah. yeah, those, those sound bites we heard in the report were of course not representative. right. it wasn't a survey, just a few random sound bites, pulled from people around the country, but it, it does speak to incredible dissatisfaction with the political system as it is a vote for trump. doesn't necessarily mean people want some kind of dictatorship or, you know, the, the worst fears that many democrats have about donald trump. it just means they have 2 choices at the end of the day. and when people go into the polls going to pulling boots in november, they're going to have joe biden, they're gonna have donald trump, or they're gonna have nobody, right? remember in, in the us sometimes as much as 40 percent of the population of the voting population doesn't actually vote for variety of reasons. but one of those reasons is just dissatisfaction with their options. so they just choose not to vote in a democracy when you have so many people of color, plurality of people not voting. you have to start asking yourself, what kind of democracy is that?
12:14 pm
what kind of reflection of the true desires, political ambitions of a population is that when so many people are so dissatisfied with the options they have williams, thanks so much for that. as the w correspondent williams, new trust of the united states as the tough and it stops on the dia, conditions in the gaza strip, according to news agencies, israel store interest allies for the 1st time. now back in calls for immediate ceasefire in a un security council. resolution the draft language also cools the release of all hostages, still held by hum off of the shift comes as the us and jordan of ad dropped more 8 packages into the palestinian territory. but 8 agencies of saying that the dropped provide just a fraction of loss is actually needed the the panic and k o as men and gaza city run around in a frenzy to find food countries such as egypt,

jordan fronts. and now the us have been dropping aid from above, but there are too many people in need and there's not enough aid. and the said that the we have the willingness inability to bear it. but is there a father in the world who can see his children riding in hunger in front of him to remain silent? even if the price is risking his life. just like all these people who risk their lives in order to obtain what is not even enough for a crumb of flour or aid or canned food. yesterday, some expired canned goods arrived containing mold and fungus. we're not animals, as they described us. i remember over the weekend workers from the u. n. m, the w h o rushed in to provide supplies to hospitals, medicines and fuel

a running critically low. and this is costing children deadlines. unfortunately, yes, we have lost 2 babies here. they had pneumonia, but they died because of the power cut. the power went off at 4 am, and at 8 am we were out of oxygen. the one that many of those have died from hunger, according to the visiting team from the w h o. the there is no milk or anything. well, the situation is bad. indescribable. we're not able to get them anything. these deaths come as the booming outside continues and bodies, philip flores, somewhat so young, they barely have the chance to live. so let's take a look now at some of the other stories making headlines around the world. and

national people's congress in china is being closely followed in type pay tensions between china and taiwan, have spikes and recent weeks due to a recent incident which took place in the waters surrounding jen. man, that's a group of taiwanese controlled islands. just columbus is from the shows of china. now in this incident, a tie, one east coast guard pursuit of a chinese fishing vessel, lead to the death of 2 chinese fishermen. china as coast guard as increased patrols around 10 men tie wood needs. officials say that is raising the risk of an accident spiraling into conflict. a correspondent james chase. a reports now from jenman. taiwan. from the beaches of taiwan steaming items chinese skyscrapers a well with the nice side. to be in. typically when use to the content home can seeing has long walks to narrow stretches of which is separating the 2 sides. but since 2 chinese fishermen died in a recent incident with tie one's coast guards,

he's been much more crowded when heading out to see the table and do it. i don't know the full we used to go over there. so we can't anymore it because the chinese coast guard is patrolling an oven. we used to come across them quite often, and that wasn't the problem. and now we just do our best not to go there. we go to you, since it doesn't become sizing videos on chinese social media, show the coast guard pressing ahead with more patrols around seeing that sometimes even using the hakim language coming be spoken in taiwan typeface or several chinese vessels events that prohibited horses during those patrol badging, which claims sovereignty over taiwan says such restrictions don't exist. it's not fundamental disagreements which is raised fees, a spot to could ignite. why the conflict? some of the right thing here. you appreciate just how small the margin for error is. this land behind us is the

chinese city of charlotte, with millions of residents, the y best. so in the distance over the, if the chinese coast guard on this line right here is controlled by taiwan. now, with china, sending more close con patrols into these voices. type pay faces the die. lemme do nothing. can they risk china replying, even more pressure, their react to strongly, and that's the risk of escalation of this is common key political moments to both paging and taipei. taiwan goes through new grades. it's new presidents, a man who badging openly dislikes and in china this week is the national people's congress. the, the country's leaders height, the defense budget by more than 70 percent, and to shoot tough words on what they call re unifying taiwan with china by military force if necessary. jenman still wears this call is the value of conflict with china, which continue to show the group of islands well into the 19 seventy's. local counselor don't send bile says that may explain residents muted response to more

frequent chinese patrols. but he's quick to add, the fundamental tension still exists. now it just looks different. it's something that you can type with. well, can be more than just a horrible. it's not just about the rock, it's guns and arms. you cancel this diplomatic was trade was the cold was wanting to head to and that kind of situation does exist here, but it's just an everyday people's perception of water is still tied to things like kind of as well. so they aren't as deeply impacted by the recent events. escalation has been avoided for now, but with ships from both sides, continuing to walk insults close proximity here. it's like the, the fragile stalemate across these voices will soon be tested again. i'm trans trace route correspondent who fall fast for pull, joins us now from type pay. hi james. now denman is positive. taiwan, but it's situated much close to truly narrow, isn't it? so? so what the people living that may cause these, these rising tensions,
12:22 pm
as well as with all situations like this in taiwan, there is some was of a distance, of course, people in germany use to these types of chinese transfer. you sort in my pull the, just how close people all to the chinese main line. and then so, um, of course, as i mentioned also in that report there is some people, engine, men who have lived experience of haul confidential in china, was showing these group of islands in the 20th century. and so to some extent, it does, it is a bit harder for these more recent tensions to come through. so people, but of course, the officials recognize that the situation is precarious. they, of course, want the situation to be cast from the managed. but from the perspective of everyday people, of course, they can't really go on living their lives in this perpetual sense of crisis and faith. and so when you were kind of approaching these stories about tensions rising between time and, and showing that those 2 realities are really what's going on in people's minds
12:23 pm
have been taiwan. me. i want to talk about one of the announcements that came out of a china is national people's, a congress, which is a continuing rise in china is defense spending. so can you tell us how taiwan and other asian countries perceive how do they see this, this rapid growth in china is millet treat power or so we've had comments actually just in the last couple of hours or so from, from side wants defense ministry speaking to reuters in which responding to this announcement from china is defense about the chinese defense budget being hired, saying that they're going to be closely watching china defense funding. and especially what it's going to be spends home, whether it's the effect degree of, of, or lack of transparency. um we of course, have a new president coming into office very soon here in taiwan, presidents like lightning documents, body signals. he's going to continue the policy of his pre to assess a we have one year from industry conscription, now here compulsory conscription inside one and signals that the defense budget here is also going to keep rising. but of course,
12:24 pm
with this defense budget hike in china, the really key context is this is coming despite really great economic challenges that china was facing. that 7.2 percent increase of course is higher than the overall target for g d p growth of 5 percent. so really indicating that even if they are, even if at all, um, continuing economic problems that the, the ministry expenditure is going to keep going to fairly high pays. and of course, this is something that is not exclusive to china across the region. countries and governments are raising the tree budgets in some cases because of a friday to see from china or in some cases, but because of a threat they've been seen from north korea. but also increasingly because some countries are really concerned that come november, the level of us supports the following november's election might shift. right to ends. we'll have to leave it there, but thanks so much. that's james chase or our correspondence in type, hey. now,

different styles bots. as spectacular, as many examples on sorres' homepage might seem open, i admit to the program still has some flaws. a video generators need to apply the laws of physics to understand how lighting changes in a moving scene, for example. and so it doesn't get all of that just yet. but as the world is discovering with the text and image generators, these algorithms loan fost something bags like this one created with mine, journey already creeping into the public domain. they could be very disruptive, politically, socially and personally, making it very difficult to determine what's real and what's not open. i is so concerned about the dangers sort of could pose, it's not releasing the program until it has saved gods in place us. and that
