library golf is good to have you with is on this friday and we begin with the race for the white house now in the final stretch on thursday. come over here is wrapped up the democratic national convention in chicago, formerly accepting the parties of combination to run for president of the us is she did that by delivering the biggest speech of her career. the show of balloons is common to have is officially accepted the democratic policies, presidential nomination, and didn't have acceptance. speech a pitch to the american people seemed around hope for the forward facing vision. i know there are people of various political views watching tonight, and i want you to know, i promise to be a president for all americans to
6:02 pm
america fundamental principles from the law to free and fair elections, to the peaceful transfer of power. to message rapturous receptive crowd, i think are, you know, recapturing of american values. you know, that, you know, to all people who can be proud of our country on the national stage, domestic stage. i'm all of the policy priorities that have been, you know, had by democrats to make this country a better place for not just americans, but for people of all backgrounds and origins. that's something that i'm really excited about. i think is the time of the year of the woman and we're going to change the nation with calling the average this idea of everyone working together, you know, listening everybody else. instead of telling people the very important message from

anywhere in the world, you know easier said than done, but i think we can start uh at home have is made the case for himself and a hearing of reno delegates of to the days of having big names appear on stage to make the case that these included towering thoughts and figures that for the 1st couple of the a bomb is in the clintons. the celebrities like oprah and stevie wonder. and from how this is running my 10 miles of actual unknown. and lastly, until 2 weeks ago. and so here in the d and c was also a launch pad. pamela harris, his top. com la harris is experience. and tom ally, harris is ready for a job or a job or a job or a job for everyone watching is to get in the trenches and do the blocking and tackling one inch out of time. when you're out of time, one thing go out of time, one door knock out of time,

$15.00 donation out of time. let's let me seduce around what time it says like delegates. so me uncommitted to move in some too little of messaging on what she plans to do about gaza. one of the most divisive issues in the polity. uncommitted delegate, you know, we want her to push for a permanent immediate, see fire and, and arms and bar go now. and of course, you know, we appreciate the fact that, that it was mentioned. but at this point words aren't enough, empty promises aren't enough anymore. we need to know what her policy is gonna be, but by not the 2024 democratic convention is being one of high spirits enjoy the optimism. and now the question remains whether the demons can flow to the right to the election and that's and susie aspects level or whether it may best. i was wanting to hear this video now is rachel rizzo. she's a non resident senior fellow at the atlanta council. think tank, which is in washington, but she is here in berlin for a couple of weeks. good timing for us. rachel is going to see you in person. so the

past 4 days, big, big time, the most important time in the campaign, other than election day did come with the harris did she do what she had to do? while i think coming in to the d. n. c, there were a couple underlying goals. the 1st was to obviously keep the momentum that she has built over the last couple of weeks, not just with bite and stepping down and with her choosing walls, but also getting people excited about her as a candidate getting, making herself a little bit more known to the country, but it was also a big message to undecided voters, people that might not be as familiar with her might not be familiar as we know with her background with her vice presidential candidates. so i think that was kind of a goal going into this was to build the momentum and continue it on. did you hear anything in her speech last night that would signal okay, this is going to make an undecided voters say i want to become
6:06 pm
a harris. so i think that last night she kind of ran into the same problem that she ran into when she ran for president last time, which was no one really knew what she stood for. she didn't really have clear policies. and that was sort of a nail in the coffin for her. so her speech last night, it was electric, it was full of energy, but it was a little bit light on policy. she said things that i think would be attractive to undecided voters about, you know, lowering grocery cost and making health care more affordable, making reproductive health care more affordable or accessible. but how those things were going to be done weren't as clear. and i think that's going to be key for her between now and the election in there. there's been a lot of attention on the protesters outside the convention center, particularly the, the pro palestinian spoke testers. what about the message that came from her? was there any difference in her stance on israel and the palestinians and the mos compared to drive by?
6:07 pm
so this is what's going to be really hard for campbell, a harris i think is trying to figure out what her position is on israel palestine. so in her speech last night, she came out very clearly and said that the us is going to support israel will give it what it needs to defend itself. that it has a right to defend itself and then said, but what has happened the last few months in gaza is quote devastating. that's basically what bite and has said, you know, and that has not been enough to make the very real concerns of gardens and palestinians, error of americans. and to really i lay those concerns and let them know that the policy will change under a harris administration. so i would expect these protests to continue until november, and we'll just have to see if people stay home the way that they did during the primaries for bite. and in some of the key states like michigan. yeah. into and she didn't have to go through the primary process writing. she didn't have to go through, you know,
6:08 pm
trying to find compromises with certain wings of the party. yeah, maybe that's why there was somebody jubilation sheet. as one commentator said, she is a perfect projection screen for the people the were in that room last night, but that's not the way it'll be between now and election day. right? no, i think what happens now between now and election day is, you know, after the d and c after the r n. c. there's always a bunch of excitement people are, you know, riled up, ready to go ready to knock on doors. and the honeymoons though, but the honeymoon is over. exactly. and when you look at poles it is. this is not a race that complet harris has in the back. it's tighter now. then it was between bite and, and trump, but she's still behind in some pretty key states. so, well, this is really exciting for a lot of people who to see campbell at harris as president. if this is where the rubber meets the road between now and november, would you say that this is still an election that is donald trump's to lose? i think the selection is still donald trump's to lose. it's easy to get caught up
6:09 pm
in the excitement of the d n. c, which is understandable. but again, look at polls look at, you know, how people are, are talking about these issues in the us. there are still a lot of people that are gonna go out there and vote for donald trump and remember 74 days until election of the what is the long time. but that again, it's not just over long and short. right? federal reserve rates are good to have here in the city. thank india is prime minister. the ranger moody is in keep ukraine. it's the 1st visit by an indian leader to ukraine since it became independent from the soviet union. bernie met with president bonum is zalinski, and said that he's willing to help in the war with russia. but he has so far avoided condemning the evasion and has abstained on un resolutions criticising russia. during his meeting with zalinski body insisted that india is on the side of peace, but it is with the condition that we stayed away from the water. but the never

meant that the would just and in the from bystander we never done it eventually. we would never newton buy it as a vi decide price on the list. it was side was peace, be the subject. be the opposite. i suppose it is a solvent the and did it go to margaret the this is of might even get out of all the way. all right, i want to bring in our correspondence so and you found because she's in t. sonya good to see you. so the words of the prime minister there were on the side of peace. how does that go down there and see that you can hear that actually from any leader nowadays? good. i don't think those words actually have been really where have been very welcome in keys, especially if you remember given the control vesee regarding movies, visit to moscow early last, last month when he met a russian president putting on the day when russian besides hips multiple ukrainian
6:11 pm
cities one besides took a major children's hospice and children keys needing to devastating feelings. and that if you remember at the time prompted see what is criticism from presidents lensky who said it was disappointing to see the needle of the world's largest democracy hug, watching for the was, was bloody criminal on such a date. so i think this visit is, is seen widely seen as more di trying to control some of that damage and fall out from that most go visit. i'm in line with that today. we saw some in ski and we'll be visiting an exhibition in keys that was dedicated to you printing children who have been killed since the beginning of the fresh of a full scale invasion so. so this was certainly india trying to kind of balance its relations between ukraine and russia and trying to show that it's not really needing to what's most cool, anyone, sites in this conflict in something you how does ukraine, c, c modi in india as role in this work moving forward, is it possible that india could be maneuvering itself into a mediator?
6:12 pm
peace maker role. the ukraine has consistently called and india to play a more active role in these efforts of, you know, given these long standing ties with most school giving, given its own kind of rising a global spectra. uh, but i think this is more this ukraine engaging with india this way is pump ballpark of ukraine's kind of ball brought to outreach to the sofa, duluth salt countries, you know, beyond sort of and north america that ukraine is keen to get on board with zalinski space proposal, which is based on the main idea that you know, russian troops should withdraw from all of your brain. i think india is central to those efforts by some lensky to wind over keen nations in asia in africa. i'm in latin american visa, visa regents at the point is really not engaged with the had much of a diplomatic presence in on to russia's full scale invasion and movie for this part has consistency. talked about, you know, dialogue and diplomacy is the only way to resolve this conflict. india has also

provided tremendous had a need to print floods, conflict, and so let's get to, they talked about that in didn't support. we can have a listen to what you say. yup. was a bit different. thank you for india support of our sovereignty and territorial integrity over these 2 years. and i want to personally think prime minister emoji. and so people of india that this for supporting your print ended citizens with humanitarian packages. and you've taught them, there was 16 of them. thank you for the simple nonsense job was that should be the so those packages that the netscape was referring to those you mandatory 8 packages have included, you know, a high tech medical equipment and supplies, but also financing for some schools for the reconstruction of some schools and, and medical facilities here in ukraine, it is, you're going to be said that this visit is a history making visit. what is next for these 2 countries between these 2 countries? when will be to date,
6:14 pm
to be invited lensky to, to visit debbie that would, you know, it was for the cement these growing high level contacts and ties between keys and daily the 2 sides to be also signed the number of agreements in medicine and agriculture of culture, the also with reading the joint statement of focusing on developing a strategic partnership by luxury quaid, continued ministry technical cooperation. i'm going to remember ukraine is also set to host a 2nd. please stomach later, this your with bush and representatives probably going to be in point and you quite would be hoping that india will, you know, play a big a cushion going there is with the w. so when you find the cards in the keys tonight, sony as always, thank you. you're watching the w news. i'll be back at the top of the hour with more world news of next is a dw documentaries sticking around the ground. watch that we'll see you again. at the top of the, the,
