the the, this is dw news live in from berlin tonight. cumberland harris is now the official presidential candidates for the democrats. last chapter. in the most extraordinary story. we're taking a look at the biggest speech of the us vice president's career and what to expect between now and election day in november. also coming up in france as president emmanuel mcfall, and holds out and i would bridge the political arrivals hoping to form a new government following a disastrous election set back. the

onboard golf is good to have you with us on this friday and we begin with the race for the white house now in the final stretch on thursday. come over here is wrapped up the democratic national convention in chicago, formerly accepting the parties nomination to run for president of the us. she did that by delivering the biggest speech of her career. the show of balloons is coming to have is officially accepted. the democratic parties turn it into a nomination and didn't have except in speech a pitch to the american people seemed around hope for forward facing vision. i know there are people of various political views watching tonight, and i want you to know, i promise to be a president for all americans to

america fundamental principles from the law to free and fair elections, to the peaceful transfer of power. to her message rep, curious, receptive crowd. i think her, you know, uh, recap, spring of american values. uh, you know, that appeal to all people who can be proud of our country on the national stage, domestic stage. i'm all of the policy priorities that have been, you know, had by democrats to make this country a better place for not just americans, but for people of all backgrounds and origin. that's something that i'm really excited about, i think is the time or the one on the year of the woman. and we're going to change the nation with calling the arabs. this idea of everyone working together, you know, lifting everybody up. instead of telling people the very important message from

anywhere in the world, you know easier said than done. but i think we can start uh at home. have is to make the case for himself and heaving. a reading of delegates of the days of having big names appear on the stage to make the case to these included towering pallets and figures like full massage couples. the a bomb is in the clinton's, the celebrities like oprah and stevie wonder and from habits is running my 10 miles of actual and lastly, until 2 weeks ago. and so here in the d and c was also a launch pad. com. a lot. harris is top. com la harris is experience and com or why harris is ready. our job, or job, or job or job for everyone watching, is to get in the trenches and do the blocking and tackling one inch out of time. one yard out of time. one, they go out of time,

one door knock out of time, $15.00 donation out of time. let's all the messages around. but how is this like delegate? so me uncommitted mean some to little of messaging on what she plans to do about gaza. one of the most divisive issues in the polity. uncommitted delegate, you know, we want her to push for a permanent medias, the fire and, and arms and bar go now. and of course, you know, that we appreciate the fact that, that it was mentioned. but at this point, we're starting to not do problems is learned enough anymore. we need to know what our policy is gonna be. but by not the 2024 democratic convention is being one of high spirits enjoy for the optimism. and now the question remains whether that happens can float all the way to the election and that's into the aspect level or whether it may best i was wanting to hear this video now is rachel rizzo. she's a non resident senior fellow at the atlanta council, a think tank, which is in washington, but she is here in berlin for a couple of weeks. good timing for us. rachel is going to see you in person. so the

past 4 days, big, big time, the most important time in the campaign, other than election day did come with the harris did she do what she had to do? well, i think coming in to the d. n. c, there were a couple underlying goals. the 1st was to obviously keep the momentum that she has built over the last couple of weeks, not just with bite and stepping down and with her choosing walls, but also getting people excited about her as a candidate getting, making herself a little bit more known to the country, but it was also a big message to undecided voters, people that might not be as familiar with her might not be familiar as we know with her background with her vice presidential candidate. so i think that was kind of a goal going into this was to build the momentum and continue it on. did you hear anything in her speech last night that would signal okay, this is going to make an undecided voters say i want to come to harris. so i think
7:06 pm
that last night she kind of ran into the same problem that she ran into when she ran for president last time, which was no one really knew what she stood for. she didn't really have clear policies. and that was sort of a nail in the coffin for her. so her speech last night, it was electric, it was full of energy, but it was a little bit light on policy. she said things that i think would be attractive to undecided voters about, you know, lowering grocery cost and making health care more affordable, making reproductive health care more affordable or accessible. but how those things were going to be done weren't as clear. and i think that's going to be key for her between now and the election in there. there's been a lot of attention on the protesters outside the convention center, particularly the, the pro palestinian, the protesters. what about the message that came from her? was there any difference in her stance on israel and the palestinians in the mos compared to drive by?
7:07 pm
so this is what's going to be really hard for campbell of harris, i think, is trying to figure out what her position is on israel palestine. so in her speech last night, she came out very clearly and said that the us is going to support israel will give it what it needs to defend itself. that it has a right to defend itself and then said, but what has happened the last few months in gaza is quote devastating. that's basically what bite and has said, you know, and that has not been enough to make the very real concerns of gardens and palestinians, error of americans. and to really i lay those concerns and let them know that the policy will change under a harris administration. so i would expect these protests to continue until november, and we'll just have to see if people stay home the way that they did during the primaries for bite. and in some of the key states like michigan. yeah. into and she didn't have to go through the primary process writing. she didn't have to go
7:08 pm
through, you know, trying to find compromises with certain wings of the party. yeah, maybe that's why there was somebody jubilation. she, as one commentator said, she is a perfect projection screen for the people the were in that room last night. but that's not the way it'll be between now and election day. right? no, i think what happens now between now and election day is, you know, after the d and c after the r and c, there's always a bunch of excitement people are, you know, riled up, ready to go ready to knock on doors. and the honeymoons though, but the honeymoon is over. exactly. and when you look at poles it is. this is not a race that complet harris has in the back. it's tighter now. then it was between bite and, and trump, but she's still behind in some pretty key states. so, well, this is really exciting for a lot of people who to see campbell at harris as president. if this is where the rubber meets the road between now and november, would you say that this is still an election that is donald trump's to lose? i think the selection is still donald trump's to lose. it's easy to get caught up
7:09 pm
in the excitement of the d n. c, which is understandable. but again, look at polls look at, you know, how people are, are talking about these issues in the us. there are still a lot of people that are gonna go out there and vote for donald trump and remember 74 days until election of the day. it's a long time, but that again, it's not just long and short. right. raise your visit. rachel, good to have hear this duty. thank you. or from politics in the us to politics and france, french president emanuel macro and has begun talks with key figures from several political parties to form a new government, including a new prime minister, inconclusive parliamentary elections. nearly 2 months ago dealt a blow to macro onto the centrist alliance. he met with leaders from the left centers and conservatives on friday, and it's due to hold talks with the far right on monday. the left is new popular front collision one the most seats, but fell far short of the majority. macro one's own term in to 2027,

but he could see his power limited by a future govern, responded rosie burge yard. is that the other is the palace in paris forest and she reminded us how the french elections ended, or when president macro and called for these small selections back in june. he said that his goal was to clarify the political situation in france. will that seem to quite spectacularly backfire? because not only did his political grouping, his century squeaking lose its majority, but there turned out to be no majority whatsoever. so literally, a situation of less political clarity than ever before in this and coordination of front in the 5th republic hung parliaments of that is unprecedented. it's hard to overstate, as compared to other countries or nearby. for example, of germany, belgium, or the netherlands. there just is no political history or culture here of coalition building. so we're still in a pretty on clear situation today. yeah. so they're having to learn something that
7:11 pm
they've never had to do before. matt crone said he's talking to all of the parties . now, what are the possible coalitions here as well, listen, it's still looking pretty murky because we know one thing for sure. and that is that the, the political group which came up on top in these last snap legislative elections. that's the central to far less than the popular front lines. they say the prime ministerial job, the job performing government, should be rightfully theirs. however, it's still looking pretty far out of reach for them at the moment because we've seen different political group things coming into these talks today. and essentially saying that they have a red line because in the left is political group, there is a far left party, cold front on boat. it's seen as basically extremists by parties which are on the right of the political spectrum. there. that means it's really still all to play for. we're expecting that present. my con might come up with a name for his primary, serial

a pick next week. perhaps tuesday before the power olympic games start. but he's the president, which likes to call you likes to come up with surprises. so we really don't know yet. who's going to bit forward that candidate for the left is the lights. looks like she has pretty slim chance is so far listed. lucy custody, who says she thinks that y'all should be hers so far looking on successful. and i'm wondering what about the, the far right, moving forward, you know, macro and he called snap elections because of the games that the far right made in the european and parliamentary elections. but in the snap elections in france, the far right lost some support. so where are the things stand moving forward as well, they were locked out of power and so far as they slipped a 3rd place when it came to the 2nd range of parliamentary elections. but it should be noted the far right still no has more parliamentary seats than ever before here in funds and they, they therefore remain a political force to be reckoned with. they will be getting seats our members in
7:13 pm
a government cabinet moving forward, but you can be sure the leader of the far right here in front of maureen la pen still sees herself as a president in waiting. we're talking currently about who will be the prime minister, who will be government cabinet ministers. but the point is that the bigger political prize in front of the presidency, emanuel microns role itself, his term runs until 2027. and that's so mostly likely, again, the far right trying to challenge him and get the biggest role in french politics. user was able to talk with the latest from paris, denied rosie, as always. thank you. let's take a look now, some of the other stories that i'm making headlines around the world wide health national security spokesman john kirby says gaza ceasefire towards in cairo on making progress. and we'll continue over the weekend. he said is real into mos need to come together and work towards implementation. negotiations are being monitored by the us, egypt, and guitar. the body of the daughter of british tech tycoon mike lynch has been recovered from a luxury yacht that sank off the coast of sicily. on monday the father and daughter
