which is the brand name for the shelter. and uh, you know, to can, i mean, it was a stream is scary, nothing that we could have one piece of data as it was the and must see what we were in to share. and we were something like one hour. and it was the booming, like a crazy all the shows that was what was, was booming. and when we went out, we seen all of the damage. that was the all the, all the complex including all the, all the houses. i see. where's the world going to i don't, i don't feel comfortable with it. and i hope everything is going to be good. and rainy and state television published these images of what it claimed were missiles

being launched. the footage could not be independently verified. in here on supporters of the government gathered to celebrate iran's revolutionary guard, said the assault was in retaliation for the recent killings of him boss and isabella leaders and his really military operations in level known and gaza. israel's prime minister benjamin netanyahu cetera, and made a great a mistake. no more, but like we will uphold the rule. we have to set scott, whoever attacks us, we attack them. this holds true wherever we fight the axis of evil to the television. tehran has warned israel against hitting back, threatening another response of its own, which many fear could push the middle east closer to a wider war. earlier i asked sean shake from the center for strategic and international studies in washington, dc. how israel's air defenses send it off this attack within israel's missile

defense architecture, there's actually a lot of different systems iron domains. one system that is designed primarily against the smaller rockets. but you also have the david sling the arrow systems. and so it was likely a combination of these more sophisticated interceptors that were actually used against the ronnie and missile tax. alright, and also the pentagon said it actively helped israel that deal with the raining and missile is being fired at the country. how important was it then for israel to have the us helping or it's always helpful to have a coalition when it comes to air and missile defense. so back in april, when we saw a similar iranian missile attack directly against israel, we had seen not just is real, but the us, france and several, the 3rd states as well. joining in that coalition to provide intelligence and
6:05 am
interceptors, and just the regional connectivity to defeat these incoming threats. so it's extremely helpful to have more people, more operators and sensors and interceptors involved in these kind of defenses. now, what did we learn about iran's capabilities from this attack? did they actually intend to cause casualties? do you think it's always hard to say what the exact intention was. this was a significant silva. that's to be sure it isn't something like a few missiles here and there to send a political message. this is, at least as you had already reported, a 180 ballistic missiles. so the intention to cause damage is clear. but how, how much we've learned to your question about your runs missiles. it's kind of repeat
6:06 am
some of the lessons that we saw back in april that yes, they can launch this large salvo and it will cause a lot of terror within is real. folks have to go into shelters for decent amount of time waiting for this operation to end. and of course that there is a risk for escalation, but in terms of military capability, in terms of really affecting israel's a strategic assets. and this district hasn't really changed anything about that it's, it's fairly weak. right? but israel, now i've said that it will retaliate, then you mean it then? yeah. who said around will quote, pay for it? what do you think that could look like a number of possible responses? again, just comparing what we saw earlier in april, back then is real retaliated in fairly limited manner. that struck a few iranian air defenses in response to a barrage of somewhere around $36500.00 combined missiles and drones. here
6:07 am
again, as you've already discussed, is really policy makers are very uh forthcoming about there being a larger retaliation that might mean striking the missile launchers that were involved in this operation. you could mean getting the command control structures, the leadership that was involved in planning here. or it could possibly mean striking some of the iranian nuclear facilities or those involved in, in that process and kind of pull that program back. that can be at the high level, but really i think we're all trying to figure out at this point, what is real is, is planning on doing next, sean, we'll leave it there. thanks for joining us on data. we can use chancia with the center for strategic and international studies in washington dc. thank you. let's take a look now it's similar stories making headlines around the world. israel's

military has launched fresh air strikes on lebanon's capital bay roofs. it has hit the cities southern suburbs repeatedly in recent days, targeting what it says or has paula sites. a strike on friday in the area killed has bought a leader house, and that's rather kind of the a shame bomb has officially beans warning as next. he goes, 1st. female president came down, who is the former mayor of mexico city has value to continue the left wing reform agenda of her previous assessor during her 6 year term at least a $165.00 people in the united states are confirmed to have been killed by hurricane helene, the storm devastated several eastern states, nearly half of the depths were in north carolina. well, dozens of others were in south carolina and georgia. the us rap musicians shown dd combs will be sued by a 120 people for various sex crimes. according to the lawyer taking the cases,

some of the accusers were minors at the time of the alleged misconduct combs is currently being held in prison on charges, including sex traffic, us vice presidential candidates, jody vance. and tim was faced off just weeks before the presidential election. the debate between funds and the republican ticket animals for the democrats was heavy on policy and sold arrivals, defend their campaign plans for key issues like immigration and the economy. the candidates were aiming to woo undecided voters in a very tight presidential contest. slow short while ago i spoke to our correspondents. you now do my own in washington dc who watched the vice presidential debate closely for us. this was a very wide ranging very policy focused debates with the middle east policy for an east policy, very heavy at the beginning before eventually venturing into other topics like abortion, like immigration climate change, gun violence,
6:10 am
and you name it. so this was less about the contrast of personalities between the attack dog, ferocity of j. the vance, and the folksy affability of tim was more than one might have expected. but there are a few stand out moments. and one that i noted, especially was one where january 6 came up at 10 walls, directly addressing data events, asking whether he thought a trump last the 2020 election. we know that he did. j. d vance dodging this question, tim was calling him out on what he said was a very damning non answer. now of course, he also reminded people why daddy vance was on that stage debating them instead of former vice president mike pence. mike tends, of course, having fallen out of favor with donald trump after he refused to help a trump with the election results. another stand out moment, of course, it was early on in the debate when both the candidates found their microphones
6:11 am
caught after they both refused to move on from the topic of immigration. tim walls had called out j. d vance on that. his lie about haitian immigrants in springfield, ohio eden cats and dogs saying that they were doing that to score points. and in so doing, they were the humanizing others. ged vance tried to engage the moderators in a debate about asylum policy. when the moderators tried to factional fact checked him, saying that's a that he said immigrants were there legally. so those are just a few moments. but overall, you know, it was very policy focused. it felt like an actual debate. as such, there were personal attacks, but they were quite limited, even though many claims were made in the course of that debate that fell between vague and downright false. right, janelle plenty, plenty a to, to talk about there. so tell us, what are the americans saying online and on social media?
6:12 am
how are they responding to the debate? well, based on what i'm seeing, the emerging consensus seems to be that was clearly did his studying up. he clearly did brush up on his facts, but it was a van. so that brought into performance. so i remember that we were speaking earlier, pablo about how vans just had more experience with unscripted events like tv interviews. and that is something that did come through and this debate. so vance was just slicker and more relaxed. and there were many moments of where tim was performed. well speaking about abortion, speaking about health care and that january 6 moment thought i talked about. but in general, he just seemed more on edge. she seemed more tense. he also seemed less conscious of the camera on him, especially in moments where he wasn't speaking. i've seen means online already around his face. now for j divides though, i think this is generally less of
6:13 am
a worry. he really does have an audience member of one or 2 impress speaking of what's happening online and on social media. donald trump has been posting steadily on tooth social threw out the debates, weighing in what support for violence weighting and with his own policy positions. and also as trump is want to do attacking the moderators on cbs. janelle, we're running out of time. but briefly, if you could, how much sway could this have for voters ahead of next month selection? you know, historically vice presidential debates don't really move the needle that much. they're not as watched as presidential debates are, for example, no one actually tuesdays a ticket based on who the vice presidential running mate is. at the same time, there are still millions of americans tooting in a such and still matters that they do no harm to the ticket that they're running on . i think they accomplish that in terms of the logical or whether it would convince undecided, swing, swing state voters,
6:14 am
one way or the other. i have difficulty imagining how this debate will do that actually now will be keeping an eye in those opinion. polls over the coming days and weeks, that's that, that's for sure. janelle do malone in washington dc. thanks for your analysis. and here's a reminder of our top stories of the prime minister benjamin netanyahu, as warren duran will pay for its latest nissan attack on his route. these ready army says most of the by raj was intercepted rounds as to strike was in response to the recent killings of his father leader. how son that's rela, and how much leader is my attorney? republican j, the von says, face democrats, tim waltz, in the us vice presidential debate, the candidates were aiming to lose undecided voters just weeks before the presidential election. you're up to date split. stay with this doc film is coming up and take a look at hidden cold war relics in east germany. and don't forget this plan,
