. i'm david lab, it's good to have you with us. hurricane milton is pounding, florida with violent wins, and potentially deadly flooding. it struck the states and gulf coast late wednesday as a category 3 hurricane with winds exceeding 160 kilometers per hour. the storms i came ashore near sarasota, south of it's expected land fall in the heavily populated tampa bay area. it's cut power to more than $1500000.00 homes and businesses and spawn tornadoes. that left a trail of destruction. millions of people earlier told to leave their homes for safety. just 2 weeks since deadly hurricane helene struck the area or. and let's bring in some live images of what it looks like at the moment. this feeds coming to us from tampa. and as you can see, it's bringing pretty strong winds and heavy rains. the storms tornado outbreak also
6:02 am
cause damage, and the storm surge is causing water levels along the coast to rise quickly. authorities of 12 people who did not evacuate before the storm hits to shelter in place as well. some people weren't able to leave those evacuation areas or chose to stay behind and they're now in the middle of the deadly storm dw stuff on z months is in orlando, florida to give us this assessment for people who are who, who will remain there. they're probably fighting for their lives because the stone searches for men this and this storm is absolutely historically powerful. even here, a 100 plus miles from the coast. the way the wind picks up wind gusts, tremendous rain increased. it's going horizontally vertical from any a sites you get to pinched by the rain here. now it dies down in about 2 minutes from now it's going to start again and you'll see those palm trees standing in the
6:03 am
backend. those power lines waving in the wind. so it's a really, really, really fast at mathis storm. those people who are on the west coast of florida in the bay are temper bay area and south of that with the left where milton make landfall, are in dire dia, trouble, and who didn't evacuate. is really gambling with their lights. everybody else evacuees or here are hunkering down. nobody's on the street. there is a curfew. we just got a, a flash slot, a warning base, tornado warnings out there. there were 17 tornadoes is head of the land for record in this past of the, of the hurricane. already people lost their lives because of those centers. $91.00 plus tornado warning. so sorry number. as you see now, maybe you can hear it and see it really taken out of every 5 minutes. you get a burst of massive winds. wind gusts here, increasing wind speeds increasing,
6:04 am
and the rain intensifying. so we'll have here in orlando where we are before we can head out and towards heading towards the tampa bay area. we have a flooding situation. that's clear. 10 authorities actually expected that to happen at the close past the cost itself and close to the costs. there is going to be water mass of water is pushed implants. and with that, the mass of flooding situation, and this is the danger, a storm surge or faced up to 15 feet even if it's just 10 feet of every child and us is 40 feet high. that causes major damage. and if you stayed there, people stay there, they are risking their lives, or they gambled their lives away. no doubt stefan. did i hear you correctly? but you said there have already been debts reported. yes, because of the tomatoes reportedly. um, uh, there were some some fatalities because we're trying to touch down. i can tell you the exact county and, and tell me the exact number,
6:05 am
but that's what we are seeing and which is reported. now there's so many aspects to the storm. you talked about the tornadoes, that heavy rain, the flooding both from the rain, from rising waters, lots of electricity. what is it that authorities are worried about the most? well here, where we are, it's flash lots. it's lots, it's tremendous amounts of rain. so we're to come down here in our is that for normally you get here in a month or 2 is coming down within an hour since as of rain, which, you know, sewer systems, they're on their can handle that much rain concrete. if you have a, a city of urban area, the problem with that is, grounds are already saturated, where you have grass or any kind of of vegetation. the rest is cement baton. so it's a, you have a flat situation, right? of the bed right? when it, when the rain falls, that's here at the coast. it's a, it's a force flooded flooding, houses and areas destruction of building wind gusts and wind speeds are
6:06 am
tremendously higher. we are expecting this in about a few hours here to be uh, coming towards orlando. again, this will be still a category one hurricane here and it's, it's going to get there here. and this is what they had at the coast where the category is free. when it made land falls, so it's flooding its people being in dire need of rescue. but again, 1st responders and all those rescue to from fema or anybody else, they're not going out anywhere doing any rescuing before we just don't die down to at least 45 miles an hour. and we can just see those seats of rain behind you there . step on this is the 2nd major hurricane visit, florida and just 2 weeks. how well is florida to deal with this? how well equipped to florida to deal with this disaster thank goodness for 440 federal local state authorities. they had about 2 days,
6:07 am
3 days and saw this coming with mills. and that milton explored it to a massive storm in size. the story from forces actually. so they had opportunity to prepare and those preparations, the pentagon, the military department of defense is taking care of $1500000.00 meals to be this 1st and to be brought into florida. yet when, as soon as the winds are dying down, the storm is coming down little bit 2500000 gallons of water fee. while the federal emergency agency is ready to deploy a 4th utility worker. so who fits power down? power lines, the front line, front line, people actually, you know, remove the trees which are fell through down to the power lines. is that for i cetera. all of those people see with the forest service or the custom said, border patrol authority, they bring rescue teams. and so this is a massive effort with thousands and thousands of people working behind the scenes
6:08 am
and are ready states ready to get into the areas where people need the most health and there will be plenty of them. now i know that this hurricane is just happening now. it's really early to tell, but how much do we know so far about the damage? milton has done of the we don't really, this is really too early. this is happening as we speak. now. this is the middle of the night, it's 11 p. m local here. and at the cost of the west coast of florida, same time zone 11 pm. and this will be the next 234. my of hours will be crucial. and as soon as there's a light, you will see that this is where they can expect the, the, the really to see how brought and how devastating damage was done by milton. the, the stuff on the months they're from orlando, thank you. step on well, hurricane milton has also become a hot political issue in the us just weeks ahead of the election. and an address
6:09 am
from the white house president bite and called out republican candidate and former president donald trump, for leading, as he called it, the onslaught of lies about the government's response to this hurricane. and to the last one, trump allies had been making false claims, including one congress woman who said the government was controlling the weather over the last few weeks has been reckless and irresponsible and relentless promotion of this information and outright lies what's going on. literally there are, there are thousands of fellow americans are putting their lives at stake and putting on the line to do the day just work it needs to be done. and it's harmful to those who most need to help. quite frankly, these lies are on american, a book been koski is a journalist and this information expert. she walked us through some of the rumors and false information that's being spread. well the rumors are that fema is killing
6:10 am
people. there are rumors that the by the ministration is refusing to send aid. there is, there are rumors that there's, you know, operatives that are down on the grounds in the are the areas of the been ravaged by hurricane, typically asheville, north carolina, and you don't, many of these are the same rumors and just information that you see after any kind of major disaster and that's because they are specifically being circulated to make people less hopeful and more just distrustful of the government. and you mentioned fema, that's the federal emergency response agency who exactly is spreading misinformation and different this information and why are they doing it? so um what i like to say in this case uh before i answer your question, is that the z is for delivery. this is, this is an actual effort to, to cause problems on the ground. it is actually
6:11 am
a deliberate effort and should be considered and attached. and the people who are reading this or the global bar, right, that would be a, was donald trump, here in the united states, members of the g o, p, but also members of the fluoride. and there is of the large, unfortunately, group of white supremacists that the united states seems to have. so all of these folks talk to each other online and we're not messaging and so on online. and it's, they're ready to be deployed whenever there's a disaster. since or when and also i should not go see this without mentioning the global aspect of it. there are also nations fetterhoff style to the united states and have been circulating this information propaganda. specifically, the administration in, in russia, in particular, and their allies like henry and you were born in ministration. when members of those governments are also circulating this information in the united states. they have been, it is a well documented issue and is always much worse when there's

a major natural disaster like this. how does information does miss information and this information like what you're talking about, put people like in florida right now at a greater risk or oh, absolutely, a huge wrench. i mean, i saw something yesterday where, um, the evaluation map that was getting surgery and it was very convincing. it was very real to as deeply alarming. and it was showing that, you know, if you wanted to evacuate, you needed to go to, you know, several 100 miles away to any one of these neighboring states. you know, and, and the thing is people that aren't big into accidents when they're back leaving with this they, they lose things. they panic, you know, they go into extreme um emotional phase because this is really scary plane. a natural disaster is, is very frightening. so it causes more confusion, it can do to people on a, they need to apply and help. they don't know who to call and they don't trust their neighbors. they don't trust each other. they don't trust the government state,
