marietta evans dean is good to have you with us. king philippe and queen latifah of spain, as well as prime minister pedro sanchez, have cut short a visit to the flood reg, province of valencia, anger over the slow government response to last week's disaster. hit a climax today. enraged by late warnings and delayed assistance in stains of worst flash flooding and decades, furious crowds hurled mud and insults at the royal's security. struggling to maintain order. the death toll from the natural disaster has risen again to 217. the emergency campaign is now switching to a recovery effort as hopes of finding survivors fades, but a severe weather warning across parts of the region as hindering operations with more intense range forecast to hundreds of people are set to be missing. here's more from the spanish minister for territorial policy. the somebody see we cannot
7:02 pm
give exact figures from the number of missing people that we would also. we have to be absolutely rigorous. it's clear that we already have a very high number of people that deal. i'm in that regard. in my office we will inform you once industry work is completed through official channels. so he's on the 15th and we can now speak to a journalist, guy, hedge co who joins us from madrid. so guys we just mentioned, spain has issued a new red weather warning and some areas for tonight. so what does this mean for the already devastated region? well i think this is just what people didn't want to here in the region of valencia . this is a, a read to look for some areas along the coast of the valencia region. we're told is going to be extremely heavy rainfall. it won't necessarily last very long as long as the rainfall we so just a few days ago. but it is expensive to be very intense and clearly uh that can
7:03 pm
hinder these rescue attempts. and they that the efforts by emergency services and it's certainly not what's the local people the needs at this time. i also wanted to ask you about those dramatic scenes that we saw earlier today with angry residents throwing mud at the spanish royals and also a prime minister pedro sanchez. it looked as if the prime minister was whisked away, but that the royal's didn't immediately leave the scene. what. what happened? yeah, it was, it was real drama having to king philippe and uh, queen leticia with visits 2nd time to apply for a loan with permits to pay the ro, sanchez, and the president of the regional government to valencia, carlos my. so on pipe puerto is seen as the place which has been hardest hits for these floods because is already confirmed that more than 60 of its inhabitants had been killed in those floods. and many, many, many people still missing from the town. um, so people came out,
7:04 pm
many of them were shouting insults, of the king and of the prime minister and of the regional leader. many of the most trying much at all 3 of them as well. you mentioned that prime minister federal census was whisked away by security detail. he left in the crow relatively soon when those things down to the king did stay on and he tried to engage with some of the people, many of him which housing asked him. and he ready, there was scenes of him trying to talk to some of these people trying to persuade them that everything possible was being done for them. and there was some, seem to him, even hugging. some of the people in the crowds that bought mud was also thrown at him and eventually he did leave the same with queen leticia and with the regional liter carlos, i saw him as well. we also just heard that clip from the spanish local minister saying that authorities don't know how many people are still missing. how is that possible as well?
7:05 pm
i mean though, i think it, people understand that this is an unprecedented tragedy. and we've been saying that the, the desk told rise day off today and, and yeah, it's thousands of people are believed to be missing still. and i think that's because of the nature of these flash floods. many people were washed away in the calls by the floods. very suddenly. we've seen pictures of caused car one on top of the, of the many bodies flipping recovered from calls already. but there are many other calls in areas which are little difficult to reach. where the, the storage is believes that there are many bodies left also that there's a lot of daybreak covering up believe to be covering up bodies potentially. so for to today, for example, we saw the 1st bodies being recovered from the the beaches of valencia from beneath the debris that i'm so the expectation is quite likely we could see more bodies
7:06 pm
being recovered. for example, from the coastline of valencia in the coming days. that was journal is guy has co in madrid for us guy. many thanks indeed for your reporting. we appreciate it. let's turn our attention now to some of the other stories making news around the world authorities and to say of russian drone attack overnight has damage, buildings and power lines. no injuries have been reported. waves of drones approach to you for multiple angles for the 2nd night in a row, ukraine says all the drones were destroyed with much of the damage caused by falling debris. and is really air strike on the city of han, eunice, and southern guns. i has killed at least 7 people according to palestinian medics. these really military also carried out strikes in northern areas of the gaza strip, where it's waged a month long campaign that it says aims to prevent a mazda from regrouping. or the race for the white house is in the home

stretch on the last weekends before tuesdays presidential election. and the 2 candidates have been making their last appeals to voters. they're focusing on the swing states that could determine who will become the next president of the united states. vice president and democratic candidate come to a harris was in georgia and north carolina where she renewed her pledge to be a president for all americans. she later flew to new york, making a surprise appearance on the tv comedy show. saturday night live where she said she would end at the drama and us politics. 3rd world country calling suggest the race is neck and neck with former president donald trump. he was also campaigning in pennsylvania for his part trip. trump promised to crack down on migration and to cut taxes. i want, honestly uh, let's go to jail. i spoke a short time ago to justin higgins. he's a strategic communications consultant who is work for both democratic politicians
7:08 pm
and for the republican presidential campaign back in 2016. and i asked him how each of the candidates were a tailoring their messages for their specific target groups for vp harris to win this election. by frankly, she is going to need a elderly motor senior citizens, college educated voters, and an overwhelming search from women voters. she's been doing this through focusing on the economy and how she wouldn't be better, but also a large focus of her campaign has been on women's rights. and specifically here in the united states, abortion is a big issue. so she has made a very sharp contrast to trunk, and she's also promoted democracy and being a status quote candidate of sorts which this a many in this country valley. now trump, on the other hand, he's used aggressive rhetoric targeting mainly white now male voters with low information. so they don't follow the news. and they don't vote that austin. he's
7:09 pm
also trying to win over some more of black and hispanic men who are younger. so his rhetoric has been about how the government is corrupt about how the united states is in a bad position and about how his opponents are basically his. and so he's been trying to play on their anger to get them out to the i also am wondering about the techniques to engage the younger voters. what types of innovative strategies have the campaigns been using to appeal to this demographic? a yes, so this was a big concern for the democrats, specifically with tick tock being chinese stone company. and also do you own mosque taking over social media, mark, soccer, burger, facebook. kind of staying out of the election. so there were major concerns about social media algorithms, but democrats have been breaking through on the social media apps to reach these voters. and one way that they have been doing this is a very weight and very robust serge from celebrities across the board of both
7:10 pm
your white male white female hispanic black and brown celebrities have been going out there in that has been creating viral moments on social media which has been very, very important for democrats to break through these opposition. basically controlled platforms. uh, the republicans. on the other hand, they have kind of stayed true to their messaging to older white male voters. they have relied heavily on you, on mosque, on twitter. they've also relied on some influencers on line on tick tock up. quite frankly, their messaging has not broken through. the last thing i'd like to add on this is they thought israel, palestine in the campus protests that we saw across the united states would be enough to swing young voters to their party. but their party platform is not offering these young voters anything. so that message has largely fallen on deaf
7:11 pm
ears. and are there any ethical concerns that you see arising from the current campaign strategies and, you know, particularly around misinformation? i mean, there's always misinformation in united states collections. there had been going back to george w bush's 1st election when there were some nasty rumor spread in the primary in south carolina. so unfortunately, politics is, in many cases, a 0 sum game. and of course, they're on ethical issues going on. what i'm most concerned about is the message coming out of the trunk campaign. they are seeing momentum for harris. they are seeing a lot of polls swing towards harris. so they are beginning to seed the ground for a message that this election was legitimate. i think that that is wholly unconstitutional. it is against the spirit of democracy and it also is the 1st type
7:12 pm
of step you take to see violence after an election that you lose. so while there may be things going on that um are meeting the eye of the media, this is by far a critical and potentially x a central threat that everybody should be watching. how does each campaign handle a potential election loss? and is one campaign or the other trying to stover their supporters to prepare for violence. that was just in the higgins strategic communication consultant just and thank you for your insights. really interesting stuff to mold over now, where voters had been heading to the poles, mit allegations of middling by moscow. russian relations have been a major issue in sunday's presidential run off for the former soviet republic. pro european presidents. my us on do has this to install de, from russia since the invasion of ukraine, her main opponent, former prosecutor general, alexandra stow, and lou is promising closer economic ties with moscow. which denies you accusations
7:13 pm
that has been trying to undermine the election. literally are we as journalists, maria, gas, nicholas, go in cation now. what's at stake in this presidential election? well, this present to lex heading can be seen as a new test. maybe a 2nd test for most of us passed towards the european union of the country, validated a and you referendum by a very to margin on the october 20th. and but my ass, i'm due is facing strong criticism for the countries economic situation and is also disliked by many pro russian citizens alexander's the candidate of the socialist party. and while he says that he's also in favor of joining the new keyboard, part of the referendum is use are the should be friends with everyone including russia. and this is a rhetoric often used by a party which has historically has a traumatized requirements. and then they're also while the issue of electron

interference of that we just mentioned this as corruption scheme for many. if my ass underwood lose for many, this would mean the victory of this election, electrical corruption scheme. and of course, a such a very dangerous precedent. us and finally, mexico's annual day of the dead holiday has come to a close with its spectacular parade through mexico city. it marks the end of the annual holiday which honors the dead and celebrates live. the day of the dead is a tradition dating back to the ancient aspects. but the parade through mexico city has a far more recent origins. it was inspired by the opening scene from the james bond film specter and that's the latest on the de, your news. this our of next using sport to change attitudes and mexico towards
