of the clean up of the layers and layers of mont and debris has been done by residents and thousands of volunteers. the full extent of the devastation is still unknown. no problem. i've heard about the somebody say we do not know how many people are still missing. i mean, we would also, and we have to be absolutely rigorous about that. the number of people who have died is already very high, and we will use our official channels to issue any new information we have. like i'm in the 15 in spain's prime minister bay that are assigned to what's meant to join the king. i'm the queen under valencia tore, but he slept the scene as soon as the angry crowd approach. well, meanwhile, spain has issued a new red weather warning in some areas. for tonight i asked madrid, base journalist, guy, hedge go what this means for the already devastated region. well, i think this is just what people didn't want to here in the region of valencia.

this is a, a read to look for some areas along the coast of the valencia region. we're told is going to be extremely heavy rainfall. it was necessary last, very long as long as the rainfall we so just a few days ago. but it is expensive to be very intense, and clearly that can hinder these rescue attempts, and they that the efforts by emergency services, and it's certainly not what's the local people the needs at this time. i also wanted to ask you about those dramatic scenes that we saw earlier today with angry residents throwing mud at the spanish royal's and also a prime minister pedro sanchez. it looked as if the prime minister was whisked away, but that the royals didn't immediately leave the scene. what, what happened? yeah, it was, it was real drama having to king philippe and uh, queen latisha will visit the 2nd time to apply for

a loan with permits to pay the ro, sanchez, and the president of the regional government to valencia, carlos my. so on pipe puerto is seen as the place which has been hard to satisfy these floods because is already confirmed that more than 60 of its inhabitants had been killed in those floods. and many, many, many people still missing from the town. um, so people came out, many of them were shouting insults, the king and the prime minister and the regional leader. many of them was trying much at all 3 of them as well. you mentioned that prime minister because it was such as was whisked away by security detail he left in the call relatively soon. when those things started. well, the king did stay on and he tried to engage with some of the people, many of him which housing asked him. and he ready. there was scenes of him trying to talk to some of these people trying to persuade them that everything possible was being done for them. and there was some, seem to him even hugging. some of the people in the crowds that bought mode was

also thrown at him and eventually he did leave the same with queen latisha and with the regional liter carlos, i saw him as well. we also just heard that clip from the spanish local minister saying that authorities don't know how many people are still missing. how is that possible as well? i mean, no. i think if people understand that this is an unprecedented tragedy, and we've been saying that the, the desk told rise day off today and, and yeah, it's thousands of people are believed to be missing still. and i think that's because of the nature of these flash floods. many people were washed away in the calls by the floods. very suddenly, we've seen pictures of cause piled one on top of the, of the many for these flipping recovered from calls already. but there are many of the calls in areas which are little difficult to reach where the,

the storage is believe that there are many bodies left also that there's a lot of daybreak covering up believe to be covering up bodies, potentially. so for to today, for example, we saw the 1st bodies being recovered from the beaches of valencia from beneath the debris that i'm so the expectation is quite likely we could see more bodies being recovered. for example, from the coastline of valencia in the coming days. that was, journal is guy has co and madrid for us guy many thanks indeed for your reporting. we appreciate it. let's get you up to speed. now. some of the other stories making headlines around the world authorities and t of say, a russian drone attack overnight has damaged buildings and power lines. no injuries were reported. waves of drones approach q 4 from multiple angles for the 2nd night in a row. ukraine says all of the drones were destroyed with much of the damage caused by falling debris. the polls have now closed,

suggest that the race is neck and neck with former president donald trump. he was also campaigning in pennsylvania and for his hard trump promised to crack down on migration and cut taxes. i want honestly uh, let's go to. earlier. i spoke to justin higgins, a strategic communications consultant who has worked for both democratic politicians and for the republican presidential campaign. i asked him how the 2 candidates were tailoring their messages to their specific target groups for vp harris to win this election. by frankly, she is going to need a elderly motor senior citizens, college educated voters, and overwhelming serve from women voters. she's been doing this through focusing on the economy and how she would be better, but also a large focus of her campaign has been on women's rights. and specifically here in the united states, abortion is a big issue. so she has made a very sharp contrast to trump, and she's also promoted democracy and being

a status quote candidate of sorts which this a many in this country valley. now trump, on the other hand, he's used aggressive rhetoric targeting mainly white now male voters with low information. so they don't follow the news. and they don't vote that austin. he's also trying to win over some more of black and hispanic men or younger. so his rhetoric has been about how the government is corrupt about how the united states is in a bad position and about how his opponents are basically his. and so he's been trying to play on their anger to get them out to the i also, i'm wondering about the techniques to engage the younger voters. what types of innovative strategies have the campaigns been using to appeal to this demographic? yes, so this was a big concern for the democrats, specifically with tick tock being uh,
8:12 pm
chinese stone company. and also you own mosque taking over social media, mark, soccer, burger, facebook, uh, kind of staying out of the election. so there were major concerns about the social media algorithms. but democrats have been breaking through on the social media apps to reach these voters. and one way that they have been doing this is a very weight and very robust serge from celebrities across the board of both your white male white female hispanic black and brown celebrities had been going out there in that has been creating viral moments on social media which has been very, very important for democrats to break through these opposition. basically controlled platforms. uh, the republicans. on the other hand, they have kind of stayed true to their messaging to older white male voters. they have relied heavily on you, on mosque, on twitter. they've also relied on some influencers on line on tick tock up,
8:13 pm
but quite frankly, their messaging has not broken through. the last thing i'd like to add on this is they thought israel, palestine in the campus protests that we saw across the united states wouldn't be enough to swing young voters to their party. but their party platform is not offering these young voters anything. so that message has largely fallen on deaf ears. and are there any ethical concerns that you see arising from the current campaign strategies and, you know, particularly around misinformation? i mean, there's always misinformation in united states elections. there had been going back to george w bush's 1st election when there were some nasty rumors spread in the primary in south carolina. so unfortunately, politics is, in many cases, a 0 sum game. and of course, they're on ethical issues going on. what i'm most concerned about is the message
8:14 pm
coming out of the trump campaign. they are seeing momentum for harris. they are seeing a lot of polls swing towards harris. so they are beginning to seed the ground for the message that this election was legitimate. i think that is wholly unconstitutional. it is against a spirit of democracy and it also is the 1st type of step you take to see violence after an election that you lose. so while there may be things going on that um are meeting the eye of the media, this is by far a critical and potentially x a central threat that everybody should be watching. how does each campaign handle a potential election loss? and is one campaign or the other trying to stover their supporters to prepare for violence. that was just in the higgins strategic communication consultant just and thank you for your insights. really interesting stuff as you're up to date on the w news up next. the documentary about the hindu holy city of our
