when you're racing questionnaires, you ministry, this kind of fun, it feels like this is dw, and use live from violin pressure amounts, as climate talks go into overtime and also by jobs for a nation's work out of the negotiations as delegates try to reach and deal with hundreds of billions of dollars to help developing nations cup and adapt to climate change. also coming up level, nice official se, several people are dead. often early morning attack brought down a residential building in the city center. and australian traveler dies in a popular tourist town in loss of the reportedly drinking contaminated alcohol. it's just the latest fatality and a string of cases of suspected methanol poisoning. the

i'm going to get jones good to have you with us. you and climb is talks in bottle i so by john, are on the verge of collapse. often he goes to a to is from small islands and police develop nations walked out of overtime. consultations, representatives from the alliance of small island state say they came for a fed deal, but their proposals were ignored at the comp 29 summit. wealthy countries initially offered to provide $250000000000.00 p. yeah, and a draft proposal, but delegates from dozens of developing countries want, at least to double that figure. experts estimate that's climate vulnerable. countries need more than a trillion dollars each year to mitigate the impacts of global warming, european union, and the us climate negotiate us consulting with representatives of developing

nations. our climate report, the tim schoenberg sent us this update from the ongoing you and climate talks inbox . not speaking to david rosco, director of the international climate initiative of us based thing. think what resource institute, thanks for joining david. we just of heard a l d. c is the least developed countries have left the room. what does that mean for the process here? well, countries were meeting at heads of delegation level, the lead representatives, many of the ministers were in a room together from about 2025 countries. i would say including groups of countries like the least developed countries. and there's been a bit of an understanding now between the big countries about how to move forward and how to deal with the question of how much money and who should contribute. the problem is that some of the smaller countries, the least developed countries, some of the small island states don't feel that their issues are being taken on
5:03 pm
board. and they're particularly concerned that the comp presidency, the as or by johnny presidency, isn't really listening to the kinds of concerns they have about the kinds of climate impacts they're facing. increasingly severe ones. and also what they need to be able to turn to a clean energy and 0 carbon economy. so they're the offer that's on the table is really not what they have been asking for. does that mean there isn't no deal at the moment. that at the moment i think we're still waiting to see whether the countries can really bridge the gaps that there are. and the smaller countries want more funding overall. but they also want funding that can be directly directed to them so that the, the funding isn't just for the larger developing countries, but the small countries really have their needs addressed as well. so that's i think right now and the now the, the issue, there's also a question about whether there would be a review of the finance goal after 5 years and 2030. the goal is probably meant to
5:04 pm
be for 2035 right now. we're hearing proposals of $300000000.00 a year, but there's a question as to whether there would be a review and maybe a revision in 2030. and so that's still also in the mix right now. who is leading and who is blocking here. it's not only about finance but also about mitigation, private protection effectively who, who is, who is going to be blamed or who's to blame for, for, for yeah, this blocking of the suspension that we're having here at the moment. yeah. well there are multiple issues. finance is one of them, but also how to go about cutting emissions. what to do with language from last year that talked about the energy transition and shifting away from fossil fuels, i think on that front. so generally we're hearing that saudi arabia is being a blocker. that's not been unusual in this context. and it may be that they're
5:05 pm
trying to run out the cost on that issue. and the finance negotiations are really the heart of what's being discussed this year. and um, the, the saudis may be able to run out the clock simply because everyone's focus and attention and time is going to the finance issue right now. thank you, david. thank you. to the middle east and so several east way any strikes of rock, central and southern bay route. lebanese civil defense officials say at least 11 people were killed and an overnight attack on the city center. the clock and the residential building is where else military said it was targeting has ball on militants. and it's really striking the heart of lebanon's capital. it's 4 am on the weekend and most of the people in this residential area are asleep. shortly after the explosion, 1st responders rush to the side. they find an aid floor house destroyed and neighboring buildings damaged. for the strike happened and then
5:06 pm
a 2nd struck and we didn't understand what happened. there were just wrecked houses, people running and screaming on this man's loved ones are among many people who are wounded in the strike. they were taken to nearby hospitals. i did really, this is the little one. let me my, my son also got hurt. man, this is my daughter, she's in the american university hospital this try cuz israel's for on central be rude in a week. it's been mostly targeting southern suburbs of the capital, his bowl, a stronghold in september. israel stepped up. it's offensive against the militant group, killing several top officials, including its leader, pass on the thrall, a lebanon's health official say more than $3600.00 people were killed and more than a 1000000,
5:07 pm
displaced by the fighting dw bay would bureau chief mohammed tre, today is in central be root out the scene of the attack. so basically, the soon after the american special enjoy almost helps the next big hotel this week is where i launched the new waves off s side on the southern suburbs off the roof. but also in central day, which i am here in the bus, the neighborhood that doesn't have to be hit that lines, right? cycling overnight, at least 11 people have been killed and more than 60 injured at 42. that the, the nice of them defense rescue was, as you can see behind me, are still working to retrieve bodies and victims from the under the rubble, at least one residential building i've been completely destroyed, turned into rubble. but several other buildings and the surroundings are heavily
5:08 pm
damaged. this has cooled, the displacement of more people at overnight this, you know, a strike comes without a previous wondering by his way then it seems to be in other us as a nation for a uh, how's the law? senior to go right now. we've been hearing that names of the senior officials, law, senior officials in the media all, but there's no confirmation all who has been targeted here and about his faith from the on cook. yep. and of course, this wasn't the, the only strike of an item in the morning. they were more hitting all the pots. so they would, mohammed, what can you tell us about those? so yeah, this is, this is a why fi and people are really losing the sense of safety and it's around the area as more products in the southern suburbs of people, but also incent from the woods people here in this neighborhood. and the

surrounding neighborhoods will come up to extremely heavy eval budman to very loud that that booms warehouse overnights. and there are the hours of the morning then people woke up. do you know, check on themselves, check on the relative hoping that these sites did not hurt or killed any of the relatives or friends this i suppose, the displacement here in this neighborhood and the surrounding of the house and the last last model in the early hours of the morning and that you know, many of them have been already a multi display multiple times as they come from the southern side. busy and towns in southern lebanon. busy it's, it's certainly a terrible time for the news and citizens and be with the rights to toppling here in beverly to bureau to you. mama, tre, today. thank you so very much. let's take a look now at some of the other stories making headlines around the world. civil defense officials in gaza say at least 19 people have been killed and is rarely

what killed the 2 campaigns in the last election is running mates by test. since pulling out this storm, but is disrupting road and rail travel across britain and ireland. the storm is packing, smo heavy, rain and strong winds with gusts of up to 170 kilometers per hour. some $60000.00 customers an iron and without power. one man died off to a tree, fell on his call on a highway outside london. and australian teenager has become the 6 foreign traveller to die of suspected mental poisoning and loss. the woman felt ill in the popular tourist town of from viewing, and was rushed to a hospital, a neighbouring thailand, a death full of the string of fatalities open leaves to be connected to booth like alcohol. and i spoke earlier to andrea cello, who is a professor of chemistry at university college london. i asked him if people would
5:12 pm
actually notice if they had to drunk mac smith or no no, there is a real problem with mental. it is quite serious. i mean, if you actually smell and all the smells very similar to the ordinary, oh, ethanol. and so really there is, there is no kind of obvious way, you know, sometimes people imagine that poisonous things are somehow different. fundamentally, in terms of taste or look from the pleasant ones, and that's just not true. so especially of course, if you add a few drinks or even less likely to be able to detect and onset accounts to restructure just by having a sense to distinguish some things. but if nothing, a looks, smells, and even tastes like alcohol, why is it so lee? so as well, the largest g is, is, is what it is. the interesting thing is that the but the shape of more of the shape
5:13 pm
of the mass, all those very similar to that of all that is ordinary alcohol. and therefore, when is ingestion, he will actually fax and, and, and go through similar metabolic offers. and so on the one hand and ethanol is known to be like ordinary alcohol, a bit of a nervous system depressant, it causes mild recreation, an issue. the problem is that the bodies detoxify mechanism, which is in the liver. it works on the delivery as long as in the little world, but what they do is they turn it into something which is absolutely legal. so 1st of all, the line which is on but a ticket for my gas or for gas, it is a really big problem because what it does is it knocks out one of the t as long as in the rooster foot process,
5:14 pm
which is used by every single cell on the bar and it resolves. yeah, you're, you're getting caught pretty systemic damage. all right, so you don't want to drink that. just very, very briefly, professor stella, is that an antidote? well, if possible, if your, if, if medical essentially guess you quarterly, if possible, to say both provider, they are drawn too much and provide insight. and very importantly, typically what is involved is the 1st step is actually giving people more. oh, really a whole essentially to swap the s on to make sure that there isn't enough time for the pauses version and all to live in a, in the case professor sell out. thank you so very much for your time. i. and that's all for now. however, coming up next sports live, looking at the challenges faced by a talented box of from kosovo with sovereignty is not recognized by many other

countries, and that's impacting her career that's coming up. next i'm going to challenge for me and then use team member in. thanks for watching the eclipse someone else to the cd. hi, lots of selected for you. you every week? a new a box. subscribe. now i think the forward is twice think ahead or was outside the box on your but always remember to think for yourself. we all had to somebody was incredibly like this.
