10:02 pm
trump's invite to ukraine at keith kellogg said russia could have to make territorial concessions for a peace deal. killed made the comments while european leaders were meeting at the munich security conference. kellogg said the united states and it's european partners needed to focus on breaking rushes, alliances with some of its new allies. you know, the, to me, there's gonna have to be things like territorial concessions as well. okay. so it is unrealistic for you to expect where you'd want to go to, but his territory, it jumped territorial. it could be a gauge, one of refusing to use force redoubts with the use of force into the future pro, from a political side. he's not kind of downsize, is the military forces, hopefully get rid of what we're going to try to do is basically force him to the actions. and what you want to do is force him to actions. maybe he's uncomfortable with what i mean by that. as an example, right now, what we're going to do is try to break is alliance that he currently has. she's
10:03 pm
kind of alliance around with north korea. that wasn't here before, but he's got an alliance with william that wasn't there before. he's got an alliance with china that was there before me 4 years ago before. earlier dw correspondent terry schultz told me the extent the u. s. and its allies are in a position to drive a wedge between russia and its supporters to well, there are certainly ways they can do that. but let's look at how complicated this has gotten. melissa, you know, the us, me put north korea and china in the same basket when it comes to the fact that they, they support russia in the war against ukraine. but, well, no european country has a diplomatic or trade relationship with young yang. that's not the case with china is as you will know, so when they're expecting the europeans to cut off china or to help diminish the influence, they're talking about the main source of the you imports. and so that's very difficult thing for them to ask. and it's not something that the europeans are our team to do. and especially if we look at the alienation that has,
10:04 pm
has been coming just in the last few days alone. this may be leverage for the, for the europeans to say, hey, look, if you want us to help you against china, you need to treat us a bit differently. now you claims for mr. erst it's supporters to give all parties seats at the table in any piece talks. here's what he had to say. take a listen. there is no dog. the only way to achieve long bluffton. just these for ukraine is a concept beef for splunk. no decisions resolved. you could say nothing about ukraine resolved ukraine and also nothing above you would have been resolved. feudal terry, this comes as trump officials had to saudi arabia for talks with russian officials do, do leaders in unix fear the us is trying to bypass europe as well
10:05 pm
. it's not their imagination, they're not invited to be at the table and they've been told they won't be while at the same being to being at the same time being told that they're going to be the ones responsible for picking up the implementation of this deal is being made above their heads. so they are being piped bypass. they've been told clearly that they're being bypass at this phase of the negotiations. and that doesn't say well nobody wants to be dictated what they're going to have to do in the future when they have no control over what that agreement is going to look like. so that is something that you leaders are bringing up and it's very important to you cream that the europeans are there because you cream very much, feels that the europeans at least share this sense of, of you know, responsibility and, and certainly urgency and fear about what would happen, and for us is allowed to remain strong. and if these territorial concessions are made to russia, that affects europe and they're not being given a seat to discuss how that might work out. terry, i'm getting the sense that there is a common vision for a post ward ukraine among the leaders in munich. but talk about that.
10:06 pm
yeah, not if you're talking about between europe and the united states, but we really don't know what, what the us vision is. you know, we've heard different things over the last few days. one of the bottom line statements that we have heard coming out of officials is that they do want a sovereign ukraine. we don't know what, what the map of ukraine is going to look like it, or what the us is going to be willing to negotiate on that. and we have heard statements from, for example, the danish prime minister here today, who says, you know, we need, we need to create a when the war. that's the strategy for getting out of the war. meanwhile, you have other countries who have acknowledge that ukraine can't possibly re gain all of that territory, at least not in any near term future. so, you know, the feeling that we really get here, and i think everyone here would agree on that, is that we don't know and far too much then as comfortable for the europeans is depending on the united states and russia,
10:07 pm
not on them and not even even on ukraine. terry shells in munich, thank you so much for your insights. here's a quick look at some more stories making headlines. a 14 year old boy has been killed and for others injured in a stabbing attack in southern austria. police alleged the perpetrator attack passers by at random in the city of villa. they have arrested a 23 year old of syria, national, who they say was a legal residence in the country. over a dozen people have died after a stampede at a train station in the indian capital. daily. the crush happened as thousands gathered it toward services to the my husband, whom do festival was largest religious gathering, a trust millions and has a history of crowd related disasters. in the democratic republic of congo meeting has broken out in the capital after rebel fighters entered the eastern cities outskirts, thousands of residents have fled with the wand. in fact,
