a focal point of coalition talks after voters said it was one of their top issues. high costs and growing uncertainty have racked the country since the beginning of the war in ukraine in 2022. europe's largest economy has shrunk over the past 2 years, and job losses are mounting. business groups are pushing for it, less bureaucracy and more competitive energy. and labor costs or some analysis now due to view reported saving peers these here in the studio with me even so we have the votes of being tallied, forming a 2 party coalition looks a little bit more likely. now, is this the news? the business leaders were hoping for. i think the news, the business leaders are hoping for is that things move quickly when it comes to forming a new government. and obviously if you're talking about a 2 party coalition versus a 3 party coalition, that probably from the outset looks a little bit more friendly or towards the speed. then of course the 3 party
6:05 am
coalition. so that seems to be the good news. but again, the real message is that there has to be speed and there has to be a unified vision at the ends, especially when you look at the outgoing governments that was a 3 party coalition. it was very awkward from the beginning. and by the end, it was an absolute disaster. you had 3 different party leaders holding 3 different business round table events, each with their own focus and even by their own admission. it was embarrassing and there was no common vision. and so that's what business leaders want, is they want to see something move forward quickly and they want it to be common because right now the issues that germany faces, they are not these kind of periodic weakening economy issues. it's structural. that means there has to be substances of definite changes, right? so, structural, i mean, we mentioned that there, there are big issues in the economy. it's sluggish to say the least. and so what will be top of the agenda for this next government that's going to eventually come in again top. the agenda is going to be that there is
6:06 am
a unified vision that is going to be the key thing. and the business leaders are left in the dark and they know where the government is going. even if they don't agree with it completely, they can at least set their watch to that plan. that would be a good start. some of the things that are on the wish list is it depends on what sector we're talking about. but as you mentioned, just a moment ago, high energy costs are problem here. your business groups the want to see the government do something about that. they want them to cap energy costs for industry, for example. it's not very easy to run a steel plan to run a chemical plant ever since russian gas became a no go here in germany. energy call have risen dramatically. another thing would be bureaucracy regulation. there new laws that have come into place here in germany and they're going to come into place in europe. they really require a lot more real checking. they want those owners regulations taken away. this would be some of the things also of labor costs, but that could also lead to an issue when you talk about labor costs. business leaders say that's a problem. that's one of the things pushing our costs up as one of the things that makes a hard to invest in germany. if you're talking in the city you,
6:07 am
i should say was really one the, the they, they had the best result for the election. they are very much amenable to a lot of the those ideas. their obvious coalition partner is the s p d much more labor friendly as opposed to cd. you much more business friendly and among the issues that the s p d pushed, we're raising the minimum wage further and even a 4 day work week. so you're going to see a little bit of, you know, sort of, um, strife in that area. it's gonna be interesting to see what happens if those are the collision talks. the go ahead between sd and the cd was not, is not a definite thing that it's just going to escape through 19 negotiations to say the least. um no migration was one of the main issues during the campaign. we've seen it being talked about time and time again. but at the same time, germany needs to attract immigrants from abroad. and so, or whatever new government comes in is going to have to strike a balance, right. how are they going to, i worth, they go to striking bottoms. yeah, i think this is the internal tension that's facing the cd. you in the space and for
6:08 am
quite some time, not so much on the business front, but in terms of migration, just how do you take some of those voters? those voters were very angry about it. from the f d. that's going to be a focus of. there's going into this next government and you're exactly right, demographically, the structure of germany is such that the, the big bump in the demographics, the demographic range is now going out. it's retiring. the baby boom is and so you have less skilled workers. that's a fact of life that we're already seeing right now. come into play. it's only going to be more exacerbated in the future. so how are you going to do that? they're probably going to focus on listening to for english math and looking at their, their party platform to this point. they're gonna focus more on a criminal deporting criminal migrants. for example, those who have been accused or convicted of a crime. they're going to focus more on little things like smoothing out payment systems, lowering payment systems for those who are pursuing asylum, things like that. instead of trying to ward off those were actually coming in with skills that could be useful to the country. but that's going to be
6:09 am
a fine line to walk. it's not going to be easy. and i think that's something that we're going to see play out over the next years. can they walk that line properly? because there's no doubt this country has to have migrants to be able to continue this economy to be able to just see it go off. yeah, this going to be plenty, plenty of negotiations and talk over the next few weeks. i'm sure you'll be keeping a great, i'm thinking you reporter seemed busy. thank you. as president, donald trump has celebrated the election results in a social media post saying it was a great day for germany. and the us like trumps confidant tech billionaire, a loan most can doors the far right alternative for germany party head of the vote . last month's most gave a virtual address, an a f d roddy saying, quote, only the a f d can save germany a f. c device mats is critical of musk support for the i f d saying it resembles election interference by russia. as it didn't dive into the interventions from washington, where, you know, less dramatic and impertinent,
6:10 am
the interventions we have seen from mosque also and the goals most often. so, you know, we are under massive pressure from 2 sides of the adult learner. i asked, don't use washington correspondent bank, i mean automotive group or how we should interpret donald trump social media post, which did not explicitly mention friedrich mounts. that's right. no mention of math . it was an old, capitalized message and truth social it where he congratulated the cd. you and this is you on the election victory saying, and i quote, much like the usa, the people of germany got tired of the no common sense agenda. something i term that the white house is using a lot, especially on energy and immigration. that has prevailed for so many years. trump was asked about the german election a couple of days ago. he just said, we wish them luck. we have our own problems here. and trump, as you said, did not mention germany's likely next chance left the place mats, others like richard green now, who was to us, and bassett,
6:11 am
or to germany during trump's 1st term, send out congratulations tagging, both previous math and also a high ranking. fully attention in the party called a and spawn, and we can expect of cosmo full of reactions and congratulations from the white house and the state department of monday. nobody. i mean friedrich mounts that just a few days ago. he said he was shocked by trump. comments about ukraine saying it was at russian narrative, and he's also spoken about achieving independence from the united states. so are we going to see a vastly different relationship between berlin and washington? it will be a different relationship. i did remains to be seen how exactly this different relationship it will look like. there are some recent statements from, from previous math that are quite remarkable, popular during a debate. after the 1st exit, polls came out, he shopped to be criticized the trump administration. he said that his priority is to achieve independence from the u. s. when we look at defense,
6:12 am
he said step by step. and you also mentioned that one of his main priorities will be to strings strength from europe as quickly as possible. and he said that last week statements from president trump, it made clear that at least his administration, it pretty much no longer cast about the fate of europe. so pretty is strong. what's that from? if we chris match, the said it's not certain what the future will hold like for nato, even if there's a in a european alternative that might be needed ahead of the next a nato summit. and the last thing that he mentioned was calling out what he said was intervention by a loan mosque. one of the most important advises of president trump mats, even equated intervention from washington and from moscow. so that's quite a remarkable stem from us efforts to benefit the fluoride alternative. if for germany party that you mentioned to you are giving a lot of our time it to the spider on accident. also repeatedly claiming that the
6:13 am
only party that can safe durham needs the best. i mean, are there many areas where both trump amounts could find the middle ground? so mass wants germany to have a more active role in europe. that's something that trump will definitely like us. he's been asking europe, he need us to step up in the role in the world when we talk about character and the pos that math is a former business leader who made a fortune. his lawyer might be appealing to us president t by words and not enough and talks between washington and billing won't be easy. but, and that's also what we seeing with other european leaders that are flocking to meet trump. he met the polish president, do dial on saturday. next week you will meet him. i know my crawl from friends keeps stomach from the united kingdom. so we might need to wait 1st for a successful coalition in the land. so successful coalition talks and then performing communications is to step up between berlin and washington. thanks. a

lot of the dates have dw correspondent banks. i mean over the gruber joining us from washington dc. and here's a quick reminder of our top story of the votes as being times it in germany's general actions that looked set to put the conservatives in power cd party leader free to reach mounts has claimed victory and says he will now get to work on forming a coalition, most likely with the social democrats who leave the current government. the other big winters are the far right alternative for germany who almost doubled their vote . but that won't be enough to get them into government as mounts as rude. i'm going into coalition with them so if you are up to date with stay with us, we'll have more german election coverage coming up and a special edition of the day. don't forget, there's plenty more news on the information on our website. you don't, you don't com and you can follow us on social media or is you news on pop up or any
