this president can ask us to be patient when this president can tell us it was someone else's fault. this president could tell us the next four years he will get it right, but this president cannot tell you you're bette you are bf today than when he took office. america's been patient, americans supported this president in good faith, but today the time has come to turn the page, today the time has come for us to put the disappointment of the last four years behind us, to put aside the divisiveness and recriminations, to forget about what might have been and to look ahead to what can be. now's the time to restore the promise of america. [applauding]

many americans have given up on this president, but they haven't ever thought about giving up. not on themselves, not on each other, and not on america. what is needed in our country today is not complicated or profound. it doesn't take a special government commission to tell us what america needs. what america needs is jobs, lots of jobs. in the richest country in the history of the world, this obama economy has crushed the middle class, family income has fallen by $4000. but health insurance premiums is higher. food prices are higher. utility bills are higher. gasoline prices have doubled. today more americans wake up in poverty than ever before.

nearly one out of every six americans living in poverty. look around you. these are our brothers and sisters, fellow americans, the policies have not helped create jobs. they have depressed them. and this i can tell you about president obama, his plan to raise taxes on small business won't add jobs, it will eliminate them. his assault on coal and gas and oil will send oil and manufacturing jobs to china. his trillion dollars cut to our military will eliminate hundreds of thousands of jobs and also put our security at greater risk. his $716 billion cuts to medicare to finance obamacare will both hurts today's seniors and the press innovation and

jobs in medicine. in his trillion dollar deficits slow our economy, restrained employment and cause wages to stall. the majority of americans now believe that the future will not be better than the past, i can guarantee you this, if barack obama is elected, you will be right. i am running for president to help create a better future. a future where everyone who wants a job can find a job. where no senior fears for the security of their retirement. an america where every parent knows that their child will get an education that leads them to a good job and a bright horizon. and unlike the president, i have a plan to create 12 million new jobs. [applauding]

paul ryan and i have five steps. first, by 2020, north america will be energy independent by taking full advantage of our oil and coal and gas and nuclear and renewables. [cheering and applauding] second, we will give our fellow citizens the skills they need for the jobs of today and the careers of tomorrow. when it comes to the school your child will attend, every parent should have a choice, and every child should have a chance. [applauding] third, we will make trade work for america by forging new trade

agreements. and when nations cheat in trade, there will be unmistakable consequences. and fourth, to assure every entrepreneur and every job creator that their investments in america will not vanish as have those in greece, we will cut the deficit and put america on track to a balanced budget. [applauding] and fifth, we will champion small businesses, america's engine of job growth. that means reducing taxes on business, not raising them. it means simplifying and modernizing the regulations that hurt small business the most. and it means that we must rein in the skyrocketing cost of healthcare by repealing and

replacing obamacare. [applauding] today women are more likely than men to start a business. they need a president who respects and understands what they do. and let me make this very clear. unlike president obama, i will not raise taxes on the middle class of america. [applauding] as president, i will protect the sanctity of lions, all under the institution of marriage.

and i will guarantee america's first liberty the freedom of religion. president obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans. [laughter] and to heal the planet. my promise is to help you and your family. [cheering and applauding]

i will begin my presidency with a jobs to her. president obama began his presidency with an apology to her. america he said dictated to other nations. no, mr. president, america has freed other nations from dictators. [applauding] every american -- [chanting "u.s.a."]

every american was relieved that a president obama gave the order and seal team six took out usama bin laden. [applauding] on another front, every american is less secure today because he has failed to slow iran's nuclear threat. in his first tv interview as president he said we should talk to iran. we're still talking and iran's facilities are still spinning. president obama has thrown allies like israel under the bus even relaxing sanctions on israel's cuba. he abandon our friends in poland by walking away from missile defense commitments. but he is eager to give russia's president putin the possibility he desires. after the election.

[booing] under my administration or friends will see more loyalty and mr. putin will see less flexibility and more backbone. [applauding] we will honor america's democratic ideals because a free world is a more peaceful world. this is the bipartisan foreign policy legacy of truman and reagan. and under my presidency, we will return to it once again. [applauding] you might have asked yourself at the last few years of the

america we want. the america that was one for us by the greatest administration. does the america we want borrow a trillion dollars from china? does it feel to find the jobs needed for 23 million people and for half the kids graduating from college? are those schools lagging behind the rest of the developed world? and does america that we want to come to resentment and division among americans? the america we all know has been a story of many becoming one. uniting to preserve liberty, uniting to build the greatest economy in the world, uniting to save the world from unspeakable darkness. everywhere i go in america, there are monuments that list those who have given their lives for america. there is no mention of their race, their party affiliation, or what they did for a living. [applauding]

they lived and died under a single flag, fighting for a single purpose. they pledged allegiance to the united states of america. that america, that united america, can unleash an economy that will put americans back to work, that will once again lead the world with innovation and productivity, and that will restore every father and mother's confidence that their children's future is brighter even than the past. that america, that united america, will preserve a military that is so strong, no nation would ever dare to test it. [applauding] that america, that united

america, will uphold the constellation of rights that were endowed by our creator, and codified in our constitution. [applauding] that united america will care for the poor and the sick, will honor and respect the elderly, and will give a helping hand to those in need. that america is the best within each of us. that america we want for our children. if i am elected president of these united states, i will work with all my energy and soul to restore that america, to lift our eyes to a better future. that future is our destiny. that future is out there. it is waiting for us. our children deserve it, our nation depends upon it, the peace and freedom of the world require it. and with your help we will deliver it. let us begin that future together tonight. thank you so very much and may

smaller plane. but it was mitt romney who use the business argument to say you aren't up to the bigger plane of >> it and was a good speech. i don't think it was supergrade. he covered a lot of ground and attached is personal life. and he continue the argument about the future and most importantly made in the

contrast the think the next four years will be better? to make the claim against obama and it was not a great and eloquent except free enterprise but my favorite theme york children's future will not be as good as yours that is unacceptable. if that is the case than barack obama has a problem because nothing is more fundamental and give your children better than new. neil: $0.5 and 18 grandchildren the kids are well represented. how much of a factor of

being cute? i thought for the obama family it was a big help. >> he has a lot of them there. neil: bringing the of former rivals on stage, teachers and janitors. first of the running mate mate, family, the big political leaders, and end victorious, of vanquished common than no more room. neil: he took on the mormon

ism and bain capital don't believe it is bad. >> that was an important defense but that the president does not understand what job creation was about. the first time i have heard him talk about his own success story. i was surprised he did not talk about the olympics. they had with a gold medal winners on the four. it reminds me of ronald reagan he took apart grander and he took on obama. neil: i have the stables

image? >> bain capital companies grew by $80 billion of revenue. then you create tens of thousands of jobs. mitt romney is a great job creator. it drives me nuts or obama to pick a few examples to pick out success. neil: you say even with the now and then failures and not the taxpayer dollars. but that doesn't get out there. >> we have seen nothing but tens of millions from the

obama's super pac against romney and bain capital. ameritech is too smart for that. they will look at the contribution to the mitt romney campaign. the message will get through. neil: there is class warfare. the administrations say there is a lot to risk with private capital. they will rob the blind. how do you counter? >> with the truth. know better defense than the truth. private capital help me build staples, and imf venture capital myself

helping out lulu lemon and many others. americans are too smart for the rhetoric. neil: this beaches over mitt romney has made a compelling argument and sealed the deal. is the party really united? people feel he does not have the passion to close the deal. >> he is a thoughtful person but has tremendous passion. he is quiet and thoughtful who gets things done.

he is not to i geller or screamer. we have seen talking. it gets us 23 million underemployed, million-dollar deficits, and 2% gdp growth. that this failure. it is time to get somebody who knows they are doing. neil: tom stemberg, the man who founded staples. we will not have a media poll results going into the democratic convention. these dimensions are back-to-back this wraps up the republicans and next week we kick things off with the democrats in charlotte. people will look closely one

of the friends and former colleagues to say he did not go for the jugular. he did not say anything nasty, just a disappointment. is that his style? >> i am not an expert but he went to the women's vote compassion, love, thinking about the future and her family. neil: and we want to stress that i was hopeful four years ago with open change he did reference the greek columns but he does look like the older executive it

did not work out. i think that is more demanding than to say he is a loser. he said it did not work out. >> his record speaks for itself. it could give people more confidence on his leadership skills. neil: the argument americans are worse off been four years ago. i don't think it is as black and white as carter. >> things are bad. i think the rebound is very anemic. people have to look in their

heart. to buy feel as passionate? it is hard to get that the enthusiasm. neil: and you are supposed to go to the democratic convention and then found out he was year and they said no. >> ancestors arrived on these shores generations ago to build a better future while leaving lives into the rich tapestry of america up. we live up to your loving care those afflicted by the recent storm, a drought drought, fire. we ask for grace to stand in solidarity for those who suffer. may we strive to include your tired, up four, huddled masses yearning to breathe

will fix the economy and everything will be better. i want to hear the of entrepreneurs and us exchange jane will fix it. >> he made fun of the line will stop the rise of motions but i assume he meant he will get out of the way? but he implied government would solve it. >> but that was the void. he did not say anything, the punchline government is not the solution it is a problem. this speech and the people

were breaking for that line. now is a cliche? even clinton said it. >> it seems like it is backtracking that is so obvious. >> and the 21st century we had massively swollen government bush and obama up 70% in real terms. we cannot go to the airport without being felt. this is a weird to century weighted choice between big government and small government not slightly smaller. to say he will take care of our family, retirement, old people, people, get jobs, i

want to see the shrinkage. that is where the real spirit and growth and dynamism comes from. mitt romney did of flattering he was funny and touching. john: i am somewhat new to politics is fluff my dad gave the gift of rose with true unconditional love bad kinship. is it unrealistic to expect a plan? >> no. the american people need to be treated like grown-ups. they can take the truth suisse -- we did not see that. >> i noticed 2008 what made

the candidate obama popular was the positive message of hope, a change and unity. it was a generally positive message tonight. >> mitt romney is not on a positive program of xyz. he needs to document how bad obama has been. he inherited a bad situation and made everything worse. nothing good coming out of the administration. [applause] john: don't ask don't tell? >> not bad but he made it worse. we cannot be worse than him

and i have had successes and in the private sector and as a governor, we can do better he just pass to sell i will not be as bad. john: i like to the line we bet on ourselves and our advice and list specifics companies sports authority, staples and that makes it real. >> it is the fundamental contrast. the chief executive never created anything in the private sector. people are looking for someone who understands the economy. john: talking about small business. is there something wrong with big business?

>> we know from the clinton years they have a fetish another is the family farm. you don't hear about the dry cleaner. they are not the backbone of the economy most firm started as a small business. but all should be treated equally. as long as they give the customers something they want. john: if not they go away. >> there is a real problem in the american tax code or the sba small businesses get subsidies then the big ones by other subsidies.

you are compound the problem. we need a government that is not playing favorites. john: what did you wish you had heard tonight? >> i come back the american people are drivers of the economy. he said we will help you. i assume he means mitt romney and paul ryan by a deregulating, reducing fed tax burden but don't help me with a hand out. we don't need the government helping people any more. [applause] john: many audience members liked the speech and were

inspired and less cynical. what did you want to hear? >> his intent to disperse power away from washington d.c. back to the people. everything i heard was centralizing decision-making. we already have that. the change comes from the local level and the state's. john: i do believe they are small government but without specifics should i believe it? >> i think ball by nance speech last night, people respond and he had very good rhetoric about decentralizing power but look at his record it is not

about cutting government but growing this size of government voting for t.a.r.p or malakar at -- medicare part d. >> patriot act. john: he has changed and grown. i want to believe that. but was central planning mitt romney says i have a plan to create 12 million. >> i don't want government to create any more jobs. [applause] there are people who do good work that our employees and two excellent but every government job takes about

three or four taxpayers to support. but mitt romney will not do it unless he starts the company. john: i think he means he will the regulate. the biggest issue to me is on the road to bankruptcy and on the road to serfdom. will republicans take us off the road? there were positive signs who this week. next. spending 3.8 trillion at 4.9 trillion over 10 years. we cannot cut them slack. it is out of control. john: just under 2 trillion with clinton seventh they are topping off the gigantic spending binge over the last 12 years. but they cannot think we spent 3.8 this year and 3.7 end next year. we blew it on hookers and cocaine. [laughter] john: of romney talks about the government 20% of the economy but that to -- it was lower under clinton's. >> he was 20% of spending

but the ones to increase fed spending, medicare spending, so securities stays the same but they say raise 18% of gdp so then we have 2% gaap of deficit. john: defense spending. there is hysteria over the obama cuts. this shows the automatic spending and of the cuts. it is not a catastrophe. >> and brings it back at the 2007 levels. john: adjusted for inflation but they think we have to

spend more. >> everyone is beholden to somebody. there is a huge defense lobby. john: they are all prostitutes? >> i did not use that word. [laughter] john: they are just bought off? i think they believe that we can bomb iran and it will work. >> the matter the program americans understand you cannot spend money you don't have and figured out you cannot print it either. >> united states has half of military spending around the globe. we can reduce that to and increase safety. over the decade it said it will be a long weekend.
