lou: is vice president biden think that we are stupid enough to allowe bearhug with those bankers and voters without prior arrangement? good night from new york. neil: welcome, everybody, i am neil cavuto. i think they have it wrong. bill clinton wasn't the best president. nothing in this economy seems to be sticking with this. it shows that mr. obama is likely to hold onto his job, even a 10 thousands of americans are losing theirs. kodak just announcing that it is cutting 1000 more jobs. only days after intel and fedex lowered their forecast.
11:01 pm
clearly, these guys are showing something. but the fact that none of them are showing up at the presidential polls is saying something as well. maybe the folks don't blame the president for this mess. they figured that who else could deal with this mess? why not mitt romney. who is leading the voters in his latest offensive. some parts of the health care law only reinforcing it. now he is just a flop. debates will likely get the voters to focus more. republicans seem battle states disappear. all of this is a worry. how can an economy so we been provided this president not so much of a dent. the candidate folks know that barack obama is well-liked, and they don't know mitt romney. and they are not exactly ready to switch to him. republican congressman on whether it is time for mitt romney to throw a fit. a lot of conservatives say he is

[laughter] [laughter] >> i do think that everybody talks about after the election -- they say, oh, we are the ones that should be credited for winning for president obama and governor romney. but i think there is the black vote, the white vote, the hispanic vote, the women spoke from a small business vote -- but i think there are two demographics you need to keep your eye on. on the right, it is the evangelical pro-life conservatives. they don't have the same confidence as 2008. on the right, the pro-life
11:03 pm
catholics don't have the confidence that i think 60 days, 50 days from election that they need to have with their candidate. neil: they have been counted in these surveys and that romney's support might be stronger than it appears like i do think that the white working class don't prefer the president, they say, well, we will not tolerate this for another four years -- and the evangelicals turnout, the pro-life catholics are now, i think it could be big for governor romney but that remains to be seen. he has not sent the right signals to about 40% of his base. it gives them a confidence level to have and be really juiced up for the candidacy at this point. neither has the president done that on the left. what is left? the president says that i'm going to make governor romney unacceptable because i don't have a lot to run on. i'm just going to make him unacceptable and that is what you see that he has done. over the last couple of months.
11:04 pm
neil: i tried to pull this when i was in school. to find a convenient excuse for my bad grades. i would tell them that i inherited these grades from my siblings because they were equally poor students. but it didn't matter. mike point is that i'm being facetious. in the face of this recovery the president pulled very well. it is a reminder of how effective he has been. you have to give him this. he is effective at shifting the debate away from whether he is a poor president to he is an amazing president considering all that is thrown at him. >> when you went home with your grades, you couldn't use the excuse the dog ate my report card. [laughter] neil: that doesn't work either.
11:05 pm
>> neither can this president. i think it is an abysmal failure on what we see in the economy. he has not moved the needle in terms of jobs and so forth. but i do think, and you have said this on the talk shows. i have set it on the talking shows. i think people do want to like him. but are they willing to tolerate another four years of not seeing the needle moved and not see things getting any better. if you think that government is the solution for that government is the answer, it is not going to get any better. you have to create an environment for investment. you don't need more taxes. we need more taxpayers. as you have seen, with hewlett-packard and others that you have talked about on the show, they are laying off people. if you want them to higher or rehire employees, you can't do the same old thing that we have seen for the last four years. neil: well, that's a good point.
11:06 pm
a guy that had a four-point oh in college. it is always good to see you, sir. >> thank you for having me on the one is mitt romney's problem not with swing voters but with tea partiers swimming away from health care comments? dan fell telling me earlier that the tea partiers have it wrong. >> do think the tea partiers hurting the party? >> i think that they are in the right way, but when they started going after mitt romney saying that he was flip-flopping, that he is not one of us when he said that pre-existing conditions office today, that is replacing the obamacare. neil: carlos gutierrez. i always think when poll numbers look bad, people say it's your fault, it's your fault. what do you think is going on? is there a rumble on the right? >> no, not at all.
11:07 pm
the interesting thing is that mitt romney has always said that i'm going to repeal and i'm going to replace. that has always been his position. he talked about things he thought he could keep an things that would be replaced. so i don't know where this uproar comes from. it is like people are looking for these things that they can focus on. the electorate has been listening to things like he is going to raise taxes on the middle class and lower taxes. do you really believe that? he is going to destroy medicare. >> you think it is the scare tactics? two it is a convention bounce. neil: he knows a thing or two about numbers. i think people have gotten used allows numbers. i don't think that's a good thing, but we have anemic growth and we are grateful if we see one of three quarters of growth.
11:08 pm
if you are used to crappy numbers coming come you are grateful if they are just slightly better. >> that is because this administration's expectations are so low. they get up and they can talk their way through a 96,000 month -- well, it's not bad, look at what we've done, and people start believing it. i think our expectations as a nation have been reducing. we are changing as a nation somebody said that we belong to the government. >> that is right. >> isn't it the other way around? they belong to us? neil: 51% of us are now getting something from the government. i'm not saying there is a percentage that can mention, i see that, but i do think that there are. >> the american people should

wise up to this that we should never pay taxes so that a public servant can do patronage work. neil: last week they said who is next? millard fillmore? may be the last two years -- then you just have to say, all right, enough is enough. >> by the way, the amount of misrepresentation, how do the american people know what is going on? medicare is being berated, which is against the regulations. it is being rated so that obamacare numbers can work.
11:10 pm
the way they are justifying savings -- they are taking savings as well. they're saying they were not going to impact consumers of medical care. we will have lower quality hospitals, fewer people going into the medical profession. fewer drug innovations, fewer medical device animations. that is not what we want. neil: i talked to dan quayle earlier. we are not articulating it. you see the one side. republicans are not really stating clearly their proactive view of a society where government doesn't play a central role. >> we will get a chance, obviously, it is now.
11:11 pm
president obama has the convention. neil: a historical reminder that we live in a moment after the convention. jimmy carter could say that. >> they didn't give governor romney a day to commit his balance. neil: we shall see. sir, it is always a pleasure. and i think you. neil: i have no problem. ford did not get a dime from taxpayers. it is growing fast. the gm rescue, well, it looks like that needs a rescue for a certain cost. still pumping out the bailout to the dnc and bloating up.
