your point, we couldn't follow-up on the hunch or find enough background to support the hunch. >> well, it depends. we adopt know exactly what happened. did they do a proper interview and assessment? that's what we hope for and expect, but, on the other hand, you know, what if they didn't? what if they missed something? these are things to look at. they will start to look at, but if everything checks out, and they did everything they could up to that point, at some point, you have to let the people go. we can't take people and keep them unless we have something. neil: yeah. does this worry you that we have these type of elements, whether home grown or not, in our midst? >> yes, of course it's worry worrisome. there's some people who come to the united states. they assume in the u.s. you want to be here and assimilate, but not everybody does assimilate. a lot of times people don't
9:01 pm
realize when you're from another country, you hold that love for that country, that national tie to them. neil: do you think his capture and brother's death, whether linked to these chechnya rebels or extreme islamists or not, will enrage them and they'll exact revenge or want to? >> it depends. it depends how he's handled as well. it's the way we treat him. typically, when you deal with the type of terrorist, the idea -- it's the ideology; right? it's either a moral ideology or a define ideology. is it a moral, you know, impact made, right or wrong, i want justice for something, or is it about my religion? about my faith? it's usually something greater or higher than the individual. neil: thank you very much. we very much appreciate it. >> thank you. neil: all right, so, foreign or not, linked abroad or not, money manager says that will be important for the markets.
9:02 pm
explain, keith. >> you bet. the key is really how global traders interpret this, if there are foreign links, there's implications because money, even when it comes down to terrorists, global terrorist funding is truly a global interlinked money management issue. neil: so, keith, just to be -- sorry, sorry, just want to get -- you would be more worried if it's proven these brothers were linked to a foreign group and that they were part of this cell. obviously, in response to the united states? >> well, i'd be very, very concerned because, again, you know, terrorists may be a lot of things, but unfortunately, they are not entirely stupid, and that means they've learned to move money around many of the controls that have been put in place since 9/11 so we have to play connect the dots. neil: but markets, that was where some of the bomb trucks and devices that now are leaving the scene because -- and the
9:03 pm
applause you hear are the relief that the alleged assailant is behind bars or at least in custody. to your point, a wall street pat. >> now is a new wild card death, but that changes equations; right? >> absolutely. my conncrn is do we become like israel a.m. live with terrorism every day to build the additional safeguards? not just terrorism of the physical sort but financially because he to go after derivatives him manipulate traders that is all kinds of things through economic wear fur -- warfare but the snapshot with the futures activity if the dow
9:04 pm
lost more than 370 points they are up in large part but not exclusively they have every candida guide to the crisis has seemed to pass but don't get ahead of yourself? >> the interesting thing about this contrasting this was 9/11. it was a globalized event occurring locally this is a localized market and a global markets are stable. i worry about the adverse. we're not forgetting you. tomorrow morning on fox news and fox business the impact of all of this and 10:00 a.m. through 9:00 p.m. we're back 4:00 p.m. eastern to see what information we may have gotten from a the suspect how this could
9:05 pm
impact people whether they are afraid to leave their homes. this is your life but it is your money and this we proved they are joined at the hip. now, a fox news. >> what involvement if any did they have? but the second of two-step -- suspects with the boston marathon is now in custody.
9:06 pm
>> you have been sheltered and plays what is that mean it? >> it is the great relief. >> people are expressing gratitude to the police officers. what your thoughts? >>. >> they put themselves at risk and with the lives that were lost in particular. >> absolutely. that little girl who lost her limbs. >> do you think boston is ready to bounce back? >> we're very resilient. >> look at this scene. some emergency vehicles they are starting to empty rather rapidly.
9:07 pm
these people are expressing so much gratitude. >> they are actually headed here we have a steady stream of people who have blocked off the street with extra ambulances and s.w.a.t. team members in celebration it is not hard to imagine what these people have got there after this incredible scene last night. the very early morning hours the shootout between two vehicles and authorities tell us one of them through the pressure cooker bomb outside the car and our understanding the type you put on the stove top they have clamps to hold the down as it was thrown out gilded came off so instead of having the destructive power of the marathon it was less and authorities have told us
9:08 pm
repeatedly that had the bomb on of the way intended it would be a much worse situation as we are expecting to get a report on all of this. the mayor of boston boston, governor patrick and local fbi. one thing of note earlier in the fbi had taken over this investigation but the only people we got no word were the fbi. it is possible we will get that tonight and learn what it was that radicalize these men because right now we don't know. sean: it gives you chills to see the crowd giving applause i assure many did not sleep in the hours since this took place on monday. you mention the woman that called the police and the shed was open anddthere was blood on the boat there was a pretty heavy firefight
9:09 pm
right after that. do we know what had happened ? >> we know when number of shots were fired and our producers counted between 20 and 30. you don't remember those numbers the first time around. we don't know if he was armed or returning fire. leader there were eight or 10 explosions were varying accounts it was our belief they could be a flash bang you remember that cop killer in california, that is how they ended that standoff. the flash bang makes a lot of noise and they are described as explosions. but there were concerns there may be explosives left behind by after the firefight last night between these two suspects, the brothers and the authorities , the younger
9:10 pm
brother fled on foot in the early morning hours they said we did not have enough manpower to seal it off but they had he was hiding he was in the boat all day? woman said they came tohe sweep the area in and they went to the boat and the shed and found nothing is a possible they lifted up the tarpon did not see it or maybe he was on the move. there's a lot to be learned and now they go through the electronic communications according to fbi sources with the two videos and e-mail correspondence with the effort to get to the bottom if they had help from anyone else or three people brought into custody. today have advance knowledge ? all of this will be part of the authorities' investigation going forward. i hope we can get some tonight about how the
9:11 pm
takedown went down on franklin street in watertown >> that is the best part did they got him alive knowing how dangerous that would be you can see this scene to the different law-enforcement areas they are getting massive applause for their good work to keep the community safe. if mike is on the ground? >> i am here. the motion started to roll as the nnws came in that this was resolved. people crowded around a radio every time they heard a new nugget that the chair would go out and this conflict formed about three and a half blocks away from ground zero from franklin
9:12 pm
street where it went down down, it just formed up ad hoc. nobody called it people just guarded lining the road as it emerges vehicles came down one by one. different groups, a slot team, a tactical team team, generate a bigger response particularly they hit their sirens and one chance did god bless america you have a very emotional scene and people spontaneously expressing gratitude to the cops to put their lives on the wind. gerri: just taking this is in the appreciation of the community. large portion was told to stay in their home for longer periods of time then told they could leave that is when the defense started to unfold very quickly. , they're a woman whose home was searched earlier they
9:13 pm
checked on the boat but when it went back she said she noticed blood on the boat and then called police that led to the standoff somewhere between 20 and 30 rapid-fire shots. then they send in the robot to see if there were explosives. "the boston globe" reported that over the police say we know you are in there. , withhyour hands up so that decision was made by the suspect number two now in custody probably taken to a local hospital due injuries evidenced by the blood on about now we will go back to shepherd smith back in boston with the latest. >> i am and water down waiting for the news conference. state police going by in the armored trucks to see what
9:14 pm
looks like a military troops as people were holed up in their residence knowing this man was on the loose that he was the one who blew up his own neighbors in the boston marathon and his brother had died but the thought of was trying to finish earlier was when he ran on foot, it seemed clear he did not have any of the tools he had along the way so they know he fled quickly. they did not know if he had a suicide fast as his brother did and didn't know if he could carry explosives so the thinking was he was probably somewhere but he escaped to the area or a sitting duck and a third option was he might have died because we have reports earlier but not comfortable tuco-tucos the air that there had been blood found at the scene they believed
9:15 pm
was his so they knew he was injured. he was in the firefight was he shot or another way? we don't know but i am led to believe we might get answers to all of that if. >> other questions will be asking is the extended trip the older brother took it to russia. was any particular training? was any foreign involvement? and those that put together one of the main questions we can get. >> i changed your right. but the true says it is no secret now you can learn to build the things that they build on the internet. you cannot pull and often
9:16 pm
the first place but then there is this matter. they clearly had a plan for the bombing but if there was a plan for the getaway it easier erupted and did not work or maybe they didn't have one because because the time between now and then is chaotic and for them to plan so meticulously they did not have a plan what to do afterwards and they met their end it as a result and sadly the 26 year old police officer died in the line of duty last night and i know how thankful everyone is these two men are no longer a menace. gerri: we cannot forget those who lost their limbs. at age 26 role in the boston bruins fan a little boy lost his life and a chinese national.
9:17 pm
we did find the older brother dzhokar tsarnaev did have a you tube sitee3 enchilada support for radical islamic ideas including highlighting this one particular. [gun shots] from austria to encourage young people to strap a bombs on themselves. we will find out more in the days to come. >> has sources have told us that some foreign government we don't know which well enough contacted the fbi to check amount they did and sources tell us they did at length and after a lot of checking real what that means falling him or whenever but they talk to him and reported back to the foreign government they found nothing on him and requested they get back with any more questions than
9:18 pm
there were no more. right now fox 25 in boston has live coverage. >> gunshots and called into the station we heard it. i heard it was melchior's and. governor christie: to get on this fast. it was incredible how it unfolded from that point* forward and so quickly the whole change if you think about the press conference the law enforcement officials they will be updating us at 9:30 p.m. at watertown mall and they will share more with us at that time it will be such an uplifting press conference although they wanted to lift the lockdown it wanted people to remain vigilant to be aware of surroundings and people were still on edge no
9:19 pm
way what took place last night in what could still be in the neighborhood today and suspect number two was still there. >> the residents of that neighborhood did not know how bad it would get. they heard the explosions and the gunfire and as we saw early this morning. >> one of the victims of the marathon bombing had given a description that led to a suspect number two identification and that was a major break in the case. we are on the phone with
9:20 pm
mike to has done such a great job of updating the story. talking about the suspect told that that now he is then the hospital arrested and in custody. >> it is incredible tousing 24 hours ago we still did not even know where these guys were. we have videos, photos released but as so much anticipation and 24 hours later and this guy is in custody and this brings relief to the region and the world. >> how important is it they got suspect a number to live? >> that is the real concern could day get him alive? that is a concern because suspect number one had explosives on him was blast wounds to his body so to be
9:21 pm
able to go in there give it to those investigators and the jobs that they did with the coming hours and days but if you can get him alive that is a huge. >> we are listening to coverage in boston and the news conference will begin in nine minutes in respect to get answers that were just post we know the first suspect who died last night had flash wounds we don't know the extent of injuries but to know the was bleeding when taken to the hospital we will have live coverage tonight and here as a news conference gets under way. karma a on negative car minorities posted the then those who have made their way here and a governor and the mayor both of boston and
9:22 pm
here in watertown will be with us and carmen ortiz will follow it. >> there was one government that gave a warning to investigate. the older brother tamerlan tsarnaev and they did interview him, he did in recent years i know the period of time in between but he did put up the you to a site that has been examined by a number of sources and he kept putting up a radical imam a radical preacher and the youtube page has links to his video a creature born in ulster ilya and fled to lebanon eight years ago becoming one of the more controversial
9:23 pm
islamic lectures and what we found he was investigated by australian police but what is interesting considering the age of the two brothers that it was captured in a documentary six years ago this is the older brother for this one imam encouraging children to become martyrs for islam that was six years ago. so this connection will be examined in the days or weeks to, maybe there was a tip that was then followed up on that we will find out about in the next few weeks spee back we do know he said you killed my brother i will kill all of you. we are thankful he could not accomplish that but it appears they were armed and ready for battle when you look at these pipe bombs described as crude but could do the job i think that is
9:24 pm
the'' then does stovetop pressure cooker bombs in one did not go off and in addition to the makeshift brigades that authorities said they had. we will learn a lot to it is my hope the way this arrest was accomplished and what this 19 year-old suspect had at his disposal as he lay hiding am presumably bleeding here in watertown on franklin street. win the they got there it was a call from a woman that they put a chopper overhead to realize he was in the boat with thermal energy -- imaging. we will find out the later what it was and they tried to get him to come out to explain he was surrounded and he wouldn't then these exclusions it could have
9:25 pm
been a flash bang or maybe something else except it would be extremely difficult for the suspect to have run from this vehicle where his brother died reported to have backed the vehicle over his own brother to escape and then did so on florida. it is hard to imagine he could carry a bunch of bombs with him as he hides so it makes sense to suggest that the gunfire had a weapon but the explosion sounds like what the authorities would have done and we will do that in three of four minutes. sean: also of tidbits to pick up and one of them is the older brother was more radicalized and the fbi was about to investigate and you can see the transition occurring for example, he loved the movie borat and
9:26 pm
would not take off his shirt because he was religious. he did drink and smoke and he said god said no alcohol. about america, there are no values anymore and people can't control themselves. apparently he was able to convince a girlfriend of his to convert quietly to islam as well so there seems to be a transition period where he became radicalized whether or not it meets the timeline of his trip to russia we will find out. >> we don't know the degree of which because we heard from so many friends all of whom stood in stunned disbelief as they talk about the rustler, a great athlete who worked so hard in the gym and did well in school
9:27 pm
never had any complaints ever sold at some point* the suggestion is the older brother may have brought him along anybody has a relationship there understand how the brother can be very persuasive but this level is another matter but is it possible that he just got caught up in the middle of it? maybe we can learn that and find out the origen's for crying very interested to read happened over the six months and everything we have gotten from chechnya today's suggest they want no part of this and they are upset his family is horrified asking the number to come forward to seek forgiveness. but the father on the other hand you can take that. he had other things to say. >> we have a tape we have two different reactions from
9:28 pm
the father and the and traverses the oval which is the brother of the father the father claims the sun is a victim be a set up and suggested there would be a backlash. >> excuse me. the news conference is beginning we have so many cameras and were spread out we will just have to swing the camera over but this will begin and police have just informed us he was taking to mass general hospital in serious condition said to be bleeding and admitted to mass general may be another hospital first but now mass general sometimes it does not sound like these are life threatening of course, we will learn when the authorities let us know.
9:29 pm
it has been a frantic scene as authorities work to get here from 1 mile down the road where this scene is taking place. it is the most relaxed we have seen this group and there are some -- some smiles and the committee a great relief. some questions, how dave you find him? did you have communication with him? what condition was the end? and did he have any weapons or explosives and were your fears accurate he might have had a suicide of best as he told -- as the older brother did? state police for setting up and the u.s. attorney carmen ortiz will host to the news conference we will hear from state police and governor patrick. >> i can think of the top of my head there will be to
9:30 pm
interview the friends and family to find the motivation is a the radicalization or hatred for america? some other political motivation may don't know about?why enforcement agencies have to track down communications, e mails, the now lot of legwork to check all the phone calls and other witnesses that may have emerged, a travel history will be key as he took a trip to russia. where did they receive their training? you are right this is available on the internet but where did they get their training? when they put the bombs together another issue is are they homegrown or a foreign connection? behalf to have these answered and the key is exploring a missed opportunity given to the fbi
9:31 pm
? after 9/11 al qaeda appointed to engage with spectacular access so maybe this is a smaller after or smaller targets is it that a greater level of frequency or network we don't know about? connecting the dots will be difficult to find the motivation here is a lot of questions may be some will be answered at the press conference. >> i think those will come in time it is important not to get to the position will be know as we have an older brother who is dead and a younger brother who is still life and we don't know what it was that was motivating them we have no idea they connect to a larger organization but police have confirmed the tip let's let
9:32 pm
it begin right over my shoulder. >> i thought he went home. [laughter] we're so grateful to be here right now. we're so grateful to bring justice and closure to this case, to those families that lost loved ones or suffered injuries to live with the rest of their lives, for a police officer a young man starting a career at m.i.t. and to with the mta to almost lost his life and neighborhoods living in fear for an entire day be are eaten only grateful for the outcome here tonight. we have the suspect in custody. i want to thank all of the
9:33 pm
partners who work tirelessly over the last four days including the fbi, a transit police, our brothers with a boston police and army, u.s. attorney's office, and the support we have gone from our governor over the last four days. we are exhausted but we have a victory tonight. but let's not forget the people along the way. governor? >> on behalf of crystal and martin a. and lindsay and m.i.t. officer who was lost last night in the transit police officer injured come on behalf of the hundreds of people who were hurt by the explosions at the marathon, i want to say how grateful i am to the colonel , the special agent in charge, to all law enforcement that worked so well and so hard together
9:34 pm
together, together, to bring us to tonight's conclusion. a complicated and challenging case and there are still questions remaining to be answered. but because of that extraordinary collaboration and cooperation by all of these law enforcement resources and assets and people, professionals whose brought there a game we have a suspect in custody tonight also the members of the public for their extraordinary patience and their participation by repealing photographs through the media and a thank-you for that and helping us to narrow in on the suspects. we are grateful for that and
9:35 pm
tonight we will rest easy. >> good evening. i am united states attorney carmen ortiz and i have to say both the governor and the colonel has put it tremendously well. tonight we feel a tremendous sense of gratitude and relief. the ordeal that this community, this neighborhood , has endured over the last 24 hours comment tonight we can sleep a bit easier. all of the unpredictable horrific and heroic acts that have occurred over the last several days starting with the terrible bombing attack that occurred on monday, here we are and to not forgetting the victims of the crimes that have occurred. the victims of the bombings bombings, to the officers
9:36 pm
who have been her and one lost his life, john and richard and our thoughts and prayers are with their family. tonight you have any questions but i will say this has been a very active on going investigation. although tonight is a closure but for me the journey continues. thhs will continue to be ongoing and active investigation as we see to evaluate the evidence to file formal charges but i will say i have never been prouder with a tremendous group of law enforcement from the colonel to the commissioner, to my federal colleague with the fbi. all federal agencies, state and local departments who
9:37 pm
have worked so hard, so committed to put their lives on the line as we fought over the last 24 hours to get a suspect into custody. so my journey and the jury of office begins we cannot provide the details that you may what at this time but as the days continue you will get answers. thank you. >> i just want to say very briefly, i thank you. thank you. thank you. thank you, to law-enforcement officials were working together the state police, boston police police, fbi all working together. that is when we work the best also the citizens. the last week was a known what was happening but it
9:38 pm
gave the caches of so many individuals, my boston police working together with the state police has closure that we're all sstisfied also those who lost their lives this past week. we will get back and all of you in the media think you for supporting us. some days but that with the law enforcement officials they have worked so hard this week. but tonight we say thank you to them. but it was hours after her job i am so happy and they
9:39 pm
feel so good about this. it is the work of individuals why we can sleep well tonight. >> good evening. i am the special agent in charge of the fbi boston division. it seems like many months since monday, april 15 the day of the boston marathon bombings. nearly five days since the tragic explosions that took three lives, a critically injured over one headed 80 spectators and instill terror and fear among the city of boston, the commonwealth of massachusetts and elsewhere. today the city of boston boston, cambridge and watertown and other communities can breathe a sigh of relief knowing to perpetrators caused so much pain and the english are no longer a threat to our personallsafety in communities. together, with the action and support of the joint
9:40 pm
terrorism task force pardners many of which are on the stage with me this evening, we remain vigilant to continue to follow through hundreds of leads and thousands of man hours to reach this moment it was truly an intense investigation and i do emphasize a truly intense investigation. as a result justice is being served to the victims of these terrible crimes. i want to personally express the fbi thanks to our partners for bringing us to this moment. no one agency alone accomplish this task of keeping the city of boston and the commonwealth safe. thank you very much and i thank you for your support of our media campaign which publicized the photos and the support the media provided it was phenomenal. think you're.
9:41 pm
>> four days ago my city was ruthlessly attacked note explaining the savagery involved i spent the last several days looking at hundreds of hours of videotape for i got to see how brutal that attack was over and over and over but more importantly i got to see what the boston police officers responded to that scene along with medical personnel and other first responders did to put people back together. tourniquets stemming the bleeding putting a man who was on fire at all with their hands. this is what came out of it. makes me proud to be a boston police officer, a part of this team. the fbi and rick could not be more cooperative they. we almost sat together darfur our sharing every
9:42 pm
single bit of information. colonel is the same way and carmen ortiz with us all the time. and then to bring the governor and the mayor together, leading the city of boston and responding i just want to say the citizens of this city are incredible. they have been patient, entered partaking and aggravation over the last four days but we very happy to try to put this back together. >> as a police chief of watertown i could not be prouder of my community and the men and women of the police to form a. what we have been through the last 24 years i would not want to see another department go through. the support we had from all the different agencies over the last 24 hours have been incredible to see so many agencies work together with
9:43 pm
the mayor of boston it has been a great. i spoke to the people of water gel before but i cannot thank you enough. the community stood strong and a call from a psittacine we ask you to be vigilant and you did. we cannot thank you enough. you have done everything and more that we have vast. we are extremely proud of law-enforcement and what we have accomplished. thank you. >> i just want to save all those who sent their thoughts and prayers to officer donahue and his family. it was deeply appreciated. thank you also to commend all law enforcement agencies that took part in this. it is true dedication and commitment at its best and i
9:44 pm
am proud to be part of it. >> my name is joseph special agent of the atf. today the entire world witnessed the commitment to apprehending these offenders make no doubt this combined effort will never cease and its protection of every city, town, a neighborhood in our nation. prayers from every employee it will come out to the victims as they heal from this senseless act of violence. god bless the citizens. >> i was listening to the police action all afternoon on the radio and -- vest had a voice to those two came before me to say what an extraordinary police operation across all
9:45 pm
jurisdictions i could listen and witness today. i was at the scene early on a and in our business it is about accountability. i cannot say how pleased i am that the second subjects taken alive. this will ensure accountability for the victims and their families. congratulations on a job well done now the task ahead for accountability. >> how did the events transpire in the boat? >> there was a call that came into the tub water tower police. three officers with state troopers and fbi agents responded to franklin street. and man had gone out of his house after being inside all day abiding by our request he saw blood on a boat. he then opened the t.a.r.p. and he saw on may and covered with blood and
9:46 pm
retreated and called less. we set up a perimeter and over the course of the next hour we exchanged gunfire with the suspect and ultimately to a hostage rescue team of the fbi made the entry and removed the suspect to was still alive. >> talk about the imperative of taking him alive. >> we always want to take suspects alive. >> the talk about this particular individual with accountability. >> we always want to take somebody alive so we find out what happened and why it happened in hold them to justice. >> the hostage rescue team did work to negotiate an amount and tried to talk kim although he was not communicated if have aided
9:47 pm
and abetted the suspect? >> i don't have that information "this is it" you have got your guy? been based upon our investigation at this point* on the citizens of the area can be confident the threat has been removed. >> the suspect is in serious condition. >> how do you know, these of the suspects you were looking for? they did not rob the 711. >> the suspects came to our attention after a vicious assassination of the police officer of m.i.t. and a subsequent robbery that occurred we got videotape from a gas station. it was actually a carjacking
9:48 pm
and officers engaged that car along with other officers. we were able to put the case together. >> when you were apprehending him in about was he shot? >> the man that fountain said he was covered with blood reassume that happened the night before there was fired shots exchange we don't know if he was hurt. there was of bet because we felt it was important to use not found it. >> [inaudible] >> my assessment of that particular incident he was assassinated in his cruiser. >> he was responding to a call for the disturbance.
9:49 pm
>> even though they're out there and still armed with give the all clear would they be a risk? >> we did not give the all clear. we made it clear and the colonel spoke eloquently to this. this is a serious and dangerous situation we had no information that he was still holed up in this area. he managed to elude us by being slightly outside of the perimeter that we set up. but it is true as we told everybody that this is a dangerous situation and they should be cautious. this is a dangerous time in the world and we have to use caution in. thinks believe this man who found the suspect called us right away and we are able to take care of the situation. there was no report of explosives with 10 and capture. but i was at the cms might exchanging over 200 rounds of gunfire, improvised
9:50 pm
explosive devices and handmade hand grenades were thrown. this is that is almost unheard of. some of these officers were heroic, a courageous way protected the community a and each other when they responded to the scene proclaimed so proud. with the state and boston police has been an incredible team. >> [inaudible] >> i was told it was an exchange of gunfire. >> no miranda warning? >> it is a federal issue somebody else can explain that. >> there was no miranda
9:51 pm
warning given can we have an explanation? >> there is a public safety exemption with cases of national security with federal charges with an act of terrorism so the government has the opportunity right now so i believe the suspect has been taken to a hospital. thank you. >> is there a federal death penalty? >> i indicated earlier this is an active and ongoing investigation we will be reviewing all of the evidence before that decision is made in terms of whether or not to seek the death penalty. you review all of the evidence and it is a thoughtful, long process that is engaged and the attorney general of the department of justice that makes the final decision. >> can you tell us what
9:52 pm
happens at the scene was the moving around? how did you know, ? >> we know he did not go straight to the boat. when we set up the perimeter with the best intentions with a lot of information and finding blood in the car , behind a house we had no information he was outtide the perimeter. it was very chaotic early this morning. a police officer shot, a lot of things going on. we thought we had the perimeter solid and we did but we were about one block away but he had to be moving a little bit after he was behind the house for a period of time. >> when you took him into custody was a moving around? >> the reason we knew because our helicopter had
9:53 pm
detected the subject in the boat. rehab a forward-looking infrared device that takes death of a key signature even though he was underneath the cover of the bowl and there was movement and a helicopter could direct the tactical teams to that area and taken into custody >> it was outside the perimeter during the days a was not searched. >> this is the active as it is in that discover this individual and ultimately called the watertown police department that resulted in this response. >> is it possible he will not make it? >> i don't know. i did not see him when taken into custody. he is in serious condition but i don't know to what extent.
9:54 pm
>> we have taken enough questions for now. thank you. >> understandably thinking that committee for all of its help now we're waiting for the president to speak within the next two or three minutes and reid know the things we had been reporting during the day were accurate. said tip from the person who's lived in the house is what led authorities there. now we note from reporting of the cbs channel that authorities had taking a chopper overhead with thermal imaging could realize he was in about. there was the exchange of gunfire according to the commissioner that was the 20 or 30 shots on scene including our own producers we don't know yet how many he got off or if he was wounded in that particular shooting but we should know

by tomorrow and we know he was injured by the shootout that happened early this morning or late last night with his brother was killed right before he back over his body to escape. we know he has been taken to mass general hospital listed in serious condition. early going that suggest they are not life-threatening injuries that would always be called critical. there was blood inside the boat and he was not communicative. the hope is to tell us something he had to say but he was not communicative during all of this. they had him surrounded after the tip came in from this particular incidence and had been surrounded and you wouldn't and to take can to mass general we don't know if there were more explosives on scene but he should -- she exchanged

gunfire with authorities and now it is an evening of relief for the u.s. attorney trying to find out what charges to file. i asked about the report but they didn't read miranda rights to him but use the public safety exemption to not have to do so. the reason for the question is to give us an idea how they will handle the case it is clearly a terrorism case. day has been labelled terrorist by the authorities here in an incident of terrorism and three others taken into custody as well. three college-age students to man and woman and described as taken into custody for questioning and we don't know the results or if they have any sort of involvement whatever.

play out in the days ahead still mekka i can tell you he did not get his miranda rights read. they use the public safety exemption and there were no miranda rights which is why i ask the question in the first place we want to sense where they are going. but i was struck with the image as described by authorities at the microphones tonight with the entire community or region on pins and needles one of the greatest cities in america shutdown unprecedented like never before and all long as hundreds and hundreds of people search for him and tens of thousands of people sheltered in their own homes the 19 year-old guy who just carried out a terrorist attack sat
