-- lou: i want to be of the -- of the fair. strafe foreign as well. >> the middle east is going through revolutionary transformation. since 2011 we have seen governments across the region fall. ethnicities turn on one another. religious turned on one another. there's only so much the outside world, any power, can do. lou: the my with an outside power and premier among in the united states not recognize the reality that you have just spoken? >> i would like to think we have. trying to find a set of policies ttat will stick in turbulent seas like this is really hard. he then states has a couple of objectives that has to maintain. it needs to be certain it is on the side of peace in the region to protect the borders of israel it needs to be on the side of democratic transformation, and even where that is ruffin has to

be a long-term objective, we stick with it. we need to be on the side of the eventual economic recovery of the region if there is ever to be stability. these broad principles ought to guide our policy. lou: those are wise principles, but they have seen subordinated to one that is a traditional first practice first policy the united states. and that is to pursue the interest of the united states itself to the democratic transition in which you're dealing with the authoritarian in the logical groups such as the muslim brotherhood, we are encountering still a force that is throughout the region growing in power which this president, to be fair as you suggested, has basically implied has been on the run for the past year, year-and-a-half. in fact, we find quite the opposite to be the case.

why are we seeing so many confusing, confounding statements and policies emanating from this administration? we will understand the complexity. but why a search our policies if we cannot, in fact, employment and and pursued good for our interest as well as those countries that have been lost, whether it be -- especially in the case of egypt. >> each of the principles i mentioned earlier are in the american national interest. though we want in the middle east to make certain that the united states is basic, interest and the flow of oil, security of israel, privileged position in the region. that goes without saying. now where we are in egypt today is really important. we are in a moment of inflection. a new government backed by the military has taken control. i am absolutely of your view if i understand you correctly.

the united states needs to support their real stabilization of egypt and end the violence and to see this government succeed and get on with its work . news today out of cairo is beginning to get a little better. we will be faced with more violence. we have to have the grit to stick with it, see this new government through and make certain that we can work with it, not -- of the the first to oppose anyone who says the way to work with egypt is to break our economic or military assistance. lou: a wearier and precisely that from a number of prominent democrats, the white house disputing it. nothing was forthcoming of egypt we are looking at without question, right this moment as you say an inflection point is at hand. yet there is great confusion.

does this president's support the general? does the general support of a secular military? does the general support the muslim brotherhood and tried to cast some sort of rhetoric around it as if it were not simply of fundamentalist islamist organization, but rather a club for democracy that just happens to reside in egypt. it's baffling. >> i don't think it's quite that. i would like to think that egypt has been unsteady priority of the united states since the early 1970's. we, under president nixon, first began brokering a deal between israel and egypt. we produced piece. that peace between the two countries a stock. egypt has been a terrific partner throughout the gulf war. it keeps the canals open, skies

clear. resupply forces in afghanistan. thanks to our support the we have received from the egyptians we need a steady policy, not with one government or another. corporation and permit the stability and economic development. stability can flow from a consensus government and therefore the priority for democracy is a good one. lou: a could not agree more. i just want to add to that two points. one is that it is certainly not constructive to have a number of republican so-called prominent republican senators at large calling for the end of aid and the breach. it is peculiar at best. a president who does not articulate or explain his policies. i hope you would agree with that secondly, the inflexion. previous to this was over two years ago when is president

sided with forces did not understand, nor did he know. and he threw away a 30-year ally in the form of president mubarak it said difficult thing to rely on the judgment of an administration in this town that can participate in throwing the egyptian country in the chaos. why should we expect better? >> much of what you say i can find agreement with, but i do recall and was in cairo in 200011. the egyptian people that asked mark to step down was not barack obama. the egyptian people decided he should step down then. they then made the decision. the egyptian people have a strong voice. they also spoke about the rule

what are your judgments about this and the republican party now speaking of self-inflicted wounds being represented by his senator lindsey graham saying there aren't military government. >> we are identifying what is taking place so it is the worst of two doubles and at this point, i think the administration has floundered. the president has advocated that. i think that we better take the side of the group that is most likely to succeed in our interest and to try to support a group that has no chance of

to the various statements, talking about tapering, not tapering, what are your thoughts of this and what you make of it? >> the only thing keeping the economy going is that we have really sad shape for the country. they started tapering just 5 billion a month last. you know how much we would spend before we got to zero? 740 billion more dollars they would keep it going at the present level for 21 months than there is more spending.

>> the fact is that we would have a balance sheet that would almost $4.5 trillion. we would be closing rather rapidly. >> we think that the quantitative easing really only works if we have things with the transition mechanism of the economy. the money being created by the purchases and the banks are turning around and putting it on the federal reserve. lou: not only can we imagine a balance sheet, but we could never have imagined we see the sustained subsidy stimulus.

>> at the end of the day, a country has to have savings. we have a much higher propensity to save it. lou: do you think there is a single person in the obama government? >> well, i think that they have almost anti-savings from the behavior. detroit would not have this now if we would not have a normal interest rate. that is a fact. lou: that is in a fact. there are so many other

variables in there. we have this equilibrium of the employee unions, city governments that have been woefully lagged and managed. what are your thoughts about this from here? >> well i think people are getting far too historic about the potential quantitative easing. i think that a moderate reduction would be that dramatic. we gradually run out of people with high rate mortgages. you run out of other people who have benefits. so by definition, it has less of

an impact. so it is more and more money producing less and less impact. it doesn't strike me as the right thing. lou: your outlook for growth ann appreciation of the markets? >> i think that we will stumble along mainly driven by a shareholder revolution. grant the export licenses, six the balance, lower everyone's utility groups. that would really stimulate the economy and the market. lou: thank you for being on. we look forward to seeing you soon. up next, thousands training and arming teachers to protect their students. an activist attorney general going all apologetic. we will be talking with david hawkins coming up next.

lou: teachers struck down by the state attorney general and review board. doctor hopkins, good to have you here. what is your review board that you have already implemented? >> yes, sir, we put together what we think is a very comprehensive program, we involved this as we begin to move forward. we spent the money, we contacted the police and they administrate

for that board, that they actually issued us a the license. we have all those things in place. right before the beginning of the school year, we got notice that an attorney general's opinion was coming out of was unfavorable to our program. when i came out, it basically pulled the rug out from underneath our program. the licensing board, their attorney is the attorney general beeause they are a state agency. the way our process works in arkansas, the attorney general, when he issued his is strictly an opinion. it is not an enforceable law. what is happening is the boy

that issues this licensing, the state agency board that that that, their attorney is the attorney general. lou: so what is your next step? >> well, there is a process that is built in place that we can appeal to the board. we certainly believe that that board acted in good faith and we believe this states that administrate that program acted in good faith. that program has been in place for nearly 20 years and there has not been an issue until now. we will certainly move forward with the process. we will appeal that decision. lou: we wish you luck with that.
