questions of tony putin strings things along for those that have noted it will take a monumental effort to take control of assad weapon in the middle of a civil war. >> if those you just read the press release are really a press release they said we don't want chemical weapons with our allies, assad we're fooling ourselves for officials say this is the line the president borrowed from ronald reagan. >> we will not just trust but verify. >> but those chemical weapons in evacuation can only begin if obama takes that action off the table and senator john mccain had the one word response, unacceptable. a sign this could be another wrinkle in a potential deal. lou: for more on the

7:08 pm
the use of chemical weapons. now it is off the table do we trust of the russians to get it? putin? come on. everybody thinks it is a good idea but we need to protect a vital american interest to say the united states remains a big player in the middle east and we will take action. lou: to the point of punishment punishing syria does not seem to be directly in the interest but what has been levied so far is the suspense has created for when he will be attacked. is now the question he will be? what is your take on what has transpired? >> to think there is even in the possibility of any punishment you have to believe syria will comply with the demand to turn over its chemical weapons.

none of the details had even been contemplated and he'll have to ignore the fact that the policy that the white house has articulated for the better part of one year that aside -- assad moscow it is now that assad can stay. will the president continued to push for assad? at least now what people describe as the opposition? exactly where this policy go there is no contemplation of regime change powell is that not a strong victory? in one last point, the climb down on the threats came one day after teeeighteen went on to the television network
7:10 pm
to make it direct threats of repercussions in retaliation by terrorist and then the united states climbs down. people are not talking about in that way as a response but i guarantee people will read it that way. lou: one of the confounding absurdities or the overarching peculiarity and disconnect is a president who is ready to go to work to attack a sovereign nation , 1300 syrians of chemical weapons of the gas specifically but not acknowledging the 100,000 by conventional means there is hypocrisy and inconsistency was no intellectual architecture to this president's policy or his values whatsoever. >> i disagree i think it has

7:13 pm
his 14 other uses a chemical weapons now all of a sudden turns on this attack to change his argument so it becomes crucial for the united states to intervene. this dramatic change that has americans scratching their head why did we hear about this before in why is it so important to now? >>. >> but now we have evidence of chemical weapons before it was questioned. >> totally not true. i was on the white house called in mid june date read out the confirmation of the use of chemical weapons by the assad regime the president's response at that time was to talk about
7:14 pm
sending the national security adviser. it was confirmed. lou: with any administration uses the expression incontrovertible evidence regarding these weapons and it is challenged european intelligence and questions about that, i tend to be skeptical as difficult as it is to obtain evidence did at least what has been put forward so far. tonight we will hear from the president on this subject we hardly understand in terms of the president's policies or his soft outcome what could he possibly say? >> first, he still has the authority to unilaterally strike.
7:15 pm
second, one of the people that has concocted this diplomatic peaceful solution to declaim -- to claim some sort of victory that he will say there is a vital interest at stake. i know that you disagree but you have to make the case over the international concern over the spread specifically by means of chemical weaponry senate there is no victory because there is not one. this could have a short-term political benefit because he escaped the bobby created by a long-term they will be disastrous. second and a think the president did say it was incredible threat of force with the threat was never entirely credible. the advisers said they would not strike without the
