where do i start? let's see what is going on with these three very big names. amazon came out with their names. in negative territory. sales continue to do well. they see momentum going into the holiday season. i have ups their shipping prices anin hopes more people will sign up for their service, which you can pay on an annual basis. amazon of 8.5%. that is a gain of more than $28. it hit an all-time high today. dow component microsoft beats the street easily doing well. microsoft and the shares continue to jump up 6%. and then there is zynga. they continue to do well. they expect full-year profit coming in. a lot of cost-cutting and upping their mobile efforts they have been working on. so we see three up arrows on the day. we have not seen since 2000. act to you. connell: the economic number today, the big one was durable

is music to the ears of investors. the durable goods numbers. we always like to make these numbers come alive. they make harps and have been doing so for how many years? >> is going to be 150 years in the business, 125 next year. jeff: this is one of the most durable of goods. let's take a look at the numbers first. durable goods this month for the good number up double what investor economist have thought. mostly up over 50%. that means core durable goods down a little bit. you say your business is definitely impacted by the economy. >> no doubt. fortunately worldwide we are able to pick up losses in the domestic market. the economy hits us. for the most part people are still looking for a good investments. speaker you make about 1000 harps per year. you do them like they did back

dagen: coming up on "markets now," why a correction is such a long way off in what the market would look like if it happens? car like on using and abusing some members of the media to accomplish his big-money goals. and why we are still hearing about a second nfl game on thursday night. the league denying it. i'm iris icing people for reporg it. but the details keep coming on it. connell: you know you want to like football. you know you do. tesla is another stock we are going to look at. tesla is getting a pass over the fiery crash a month ago. you may be remember that. the video went viral over the internet. nicole is back with us with stock exchange to talk about the

stock. nicole: when you own the stock of tesla or her own tesla itself you don't want to see video of a tesla model s on fire. that is what viewers got to see. very quickly and went viral a video of exactly that. it would seem to be a freak accident in which tesla went over some large piece of debris. it was told the driver to get out, there was no fire within the cabin where the person was and nobody was hurt. one of those freak type accidents. in the meantime they will not face federal probes because of this. as a matter of fact tesla coming out saying our cards or even safer then the typical car that we all know so well. the other piece of news here is limburg reporting california regulators actually are delaying the changes in regulations which would have cut the number of environmental credit that tesla earns from sales of the model s in california.

tesla sells these scripts to other automakers whose cars not meet the emission standards. the big picture here is tesla still a real winner. new line must cap you about this one, i am sure. about the same thing. back to you. dagen: thank you, nicole. connell: the u.s. stock market has not had a serious correction in more than two years between 10-20%. but the market has seen a couple undeniable bull runs. the current streak would have to extend until october 12018 to beat the record run of 1990-1997. dagen: like in the market possibly do that? here to answer, paul hickey joining us. why can the market meet or beat that streak? speak out you have to take things one step at a time.

when you hear the sentiment we are overdue for a correction or the vexes at historically low levels, you tend to see it does not have to end because we are here. in the posse 90s and early 2003, you have the low six readings they generally last for a long time. in the next couple of quarters were positive on the market, can we go out to 2018? who knows. it would be a take move, but let's take things one step at a time. connell: we mentioned earlier about a-rod's contract, the length of it. which was idiotic at the time to sign anybody for 10 years. look at the cardinals with pujols. in that time, in his 60s still getting paid, where will the

market be? >> the thing you have to look at, we went through a bear market over 10 years long. we tend to have these cycles. we are in an extensive bull run. the fourth strongest. these things, when you have a lot of skepticism on it. which is some degree of skepticism which we are overdue and write for a correction, they can last a little bit longer than people would expect. dagen: how else can we put that in perspective in terms of who will be the president, or it will be midterm elections for the next president. >> that is a long way up. focusing on where we look now at sectors we like in the market. connell: such as question marks >> we like the u.s. consumer trend. it will be positive for increased spending. gas prices are dropping. that'll be another tailwind for the consumer.

industrials, european economies are strengthening, so these industrials, multinational companies have a lot of exposure to europe. they have been rebounding. connell: what is the biggest factor you think, this is a difficult question to answer, but making half joking references to how the world would change if we beat that run. china overtaking us as the central economy. these things we don't necessarily talk about every day, but what is the biggest x factor in this? politics, something else? >> like i said, if we are thinking about the midterm elections five years before barack obama was elected nobody even knew who barack obama was. things are going to change a lot. to predict what is going to happen. u.s. economy strong energy sector. if we really exploit those resources and remove our dependence from the middle east and middle eastern oil, that

will increase our terms of trade, we won't be importing as much. dagen: i tell you this, lest the economy goes to hell in a handbasket, interest rates longer-term interest rates will surely be higher than they are right now and the bigger question is can you have a market that continues rallying with rates going higher? >> interest rates are at historically low level. a rising interest rates are not necessarily good for stocks but the majority of the gains come as interest rates are rising. when we are still at 2.5%, that is investors in the bunker. you see rising interest rates, people coming out of the bunker. connell: you keep on throwing out the fleckenstein network. he said 3% on the 10-year, forget it. he was starting up his short fund again, start shorting stocks at 3% on the 10-year period >.>> our view is a tenurr

lower, it is still very manageable. 3%. connell: above it is trouble? >> it depends on how we got there be at the end of the year, a big move. as long as you're gradually seeing the rise, it is not necessarily bad. the long-term average is over 5%. we are still well below average. connell: great stuff, craggy. >> i'm used to being called the wrong name. dagen: it is intentional. the cardinals are the red sox? >> the red sox. i am more of a mets fan. dagen: god help you both.

charlie: i have no problem with a rich fatcat promoting his position to get more bang for his buck. the way he is doing it is pretty unseemly. when you talk to people, talk to investors, how he is doing it is now starting to resonate as a really bad thing. it is clearly selective leaks between two other stations. if he doesn't like what he is hearing at cnbc he will switch to bloomberg and go back and forth and use both of those networks to promote his position. how they do it is pretty interesting. take for example yesterday, i'm not saying i know this for a fact, but mopping and he leaks a story to cnbc a couple of days ago. the anchor break the story about the letter he put out to the apple shareholders. everybody knows he wants a massive buyback. they mega huge thing out of this. former colleague of mine criticizes it. guess what happens next? karl icon appears on bloomberg to talk about it.

why is that? he comes on cnbc the next day and guess what they do, they give the new microphone and let him pout for a half hour uninterrupted and on critique. is that type of journalism i think which is bad. here is the irony of all of this. we did a story about this in the summer. how the apple board was growing patient with tim cook. i didn't think he was up to the task, or maybe not. big shoes to fill, steve jobs. we will give him that. they wanted more out of him. these attacks by icahn, him going out there saying i want double or triple the buyback they already have. i know they have a lot of cash on a balance sheet, but they need to innovate and do stuff. their whole business model is innovation, changing the iphone, going forward with another product. what they are doing now is

basically his attacks, i think, have caused the board to rally around tim cook. the opposite. perfect, perfect analogy. this was steve jobs and karl icon set i wanted to have dinner with you, okay, go, and he wouldn't show up. i just think the media is being used here. some are calling this guy a capitalist icon in all of this. listen, carl icahn is an investor, i am sure a very nice guy. but icahn? think about it. steve jobs is an icon. great investment record for warren buffett. carl icahn used to be known as a guy who invest in a company, tells his investment, goes out there as an activist and guess what, the stock goes up as he
