>> think that this is a good showing. i no dinesh d'souza as well. i think that is happily pointed out, we are innocent until proven guilty. but it goes to the underlying nature of the administration that has overtly use the irs for political rposes. the point is someone who is a campaign donor of obama, to see whether it warrants investigation. as a conservative and one that has written a documentary that was very critical of the president, i think it's interesting in a sense of timing that they are coming after him like that's. lou: i think we should give "the washington post" credit for pointing out to john edwards campaign who stood in precisely the same position with the same amount of money. it was only a misdemeanor in 2007, apparently a far less demanding president with george w. bush. does that give you any pause at all and even the post would point that out?

lou: stocks plummeting. the dow jones posting its decline since 2011, the largest decline. i'm joined by director financial research, jonathan, it is good to have you here. what is driving this selloffis a lot about emerging market currencies. a slowdown in the chinese economy? what do you think? >> there's a lot of thing at play. we think about argentina tile and actually defaulted on their currency that led to a default and russian sovergn debt and big bankruptcy with big hedge fund trading currency. so in that time the s&p was down 18%. how this sort of plays out.

there are risks manifesting in the market. lou: i want to put up a chart that i asked for earlier today. to show the relative market of these equities markets around the world. because people get a sense of oportion. we are looking at just about $23 trillion in europe is just about 12 trillion and china a ttle over 5 trillion. >> yes. lou: this is getting a little silly. because we have a business press that is letting the tail wag the dog. proportionality is critical. when you are assessing risks and making decisions about future bets. >> argentina's market cap is $40 billion. that is actually the sides of the uk connected global risk for a 40 billion-dollar bankruptcy were to go down, that would be massively important issue for

the global market. but it's in close proximity and so the discounting factor is it will drive thmarket. there is some smaller in but the latin american government can take care of it. lou: what is your judgment here? what is an investor to do and someone who is invested in it and what is yo judgment about what someone should do who has capital when he or she is thinking about investing? >> we arin the midst of a development market boom. so if you think about emerging market and outperforms for the better part of a decade. that capital has to go somewhere. so the capitals went to funnel into those markets, actually keeping a good bid under the u.s. and the german and the uk market.

your liver and heart and brain. it is just bad. but so is marijuana. many studies out there have shn that it interferes with decision making and thinking especially when young people take marijuana. it interferes with her performance on tests and it's not good for the lungs. this new study is a fancy concept. what i did one person affects the offspring. it doesn't cause mutations that it alters how the genes are expressed. lou: so that actually reaches to the behavior of succeeding generations? >> yet, and we all thought that it was because of pot smokers of this generation say go ahead, go ahead. it's not like that. this study was done in rats and rats are not talking. the genetic changes that you see are related to something being passed along. it's frightening. lou: the president making this comparison. at this time there is a view that it should be legalized for medical reasons. do you support that? >> that is a hard one for me to support.

there are medical reasons for usg marijuana. but what ends up happening is that of its legalized it goes crazy. look at california. in california it is legalized for medical reasons, but everyone on the street corner is getting at. so it is used as an excuse. we will give out the local store and it's not restricted. lou: there is an argument. there was some considerable craziness in california before. and it's so predictable. but the white house -- the white house itself, drugs are contradicting the president on this. so what should people be doing to resolve this? do you say to a kid, stay away? we know everyone is going to be asked to go drinking illegally before age. ow do you counsel this? >> well, you can do about fear

but you have to go buy a role model. they have to see how you behave and what your priorities are and you have to hope for the best. then it has something to do with who they hang out with. you can't control people hang out with because a lot of peer pressure is involved. if you do it by fear you're going to lose. lou: i want to turn to another topic. h1n1 showing up in the country. it looks like a difficult flu year. what do you say to people about what to expect? >> people can still get their flu shots and they should. here's the deal. this is still the same flu predominating that we talked about in 2009. in an epidemiologist told me that 10 dumbest stay around for a few years. lou: there is the good news. >> this year it is still affecting the young. so that is the group. the target group is still young people and pregnant women. so i say everyone get a flu shot to create a ring of immunity to
