whole recovery is doomed. apparently the low numbers are pulling a number on the economy, the folks that can't make it in to work. a rolling government shutdown. the school closings in the business closis. the people not shopping. the retailers not retailing. the rumble that is now ally rumbling because it just isn't quitting. our very own guet on something else. the sticker shock that is coming. phil, i suspect that you're taing about a utility sticker shock? >> you bet that i am. we saw natural gas prices earlier today g over $5 for the first time since august of 2010. nd we have experienced energy ergencies across the country. shortages of propane, heating oil bills going through the roof. right now it is in a crisis mode. already if you think about just the heat wave, if you go on and

look at the billions of dollars that it has cost the economy, to go to work, this can just be the beginning. you are going to get a double whammy if you're running a business. your prices are going to be a lot higher. and it's definitely going to take a toll on the gross domestic product. neil: what is interesting about that is that this affects people who are not justin the weather affected areas. it has a profound effect on people all over the country and then all of a sudden you do have to start readjusting the gdp numbers as well. and cole cold-weather equals higher transportation all kinds of things that we will factor in a much broader economy. you are you're talking between 200 and 250 million people.

we are looking in the neighborhood of .2 or .3% of the gdp. neil: to whatever experience you have in that it all evens out. duties suspect that that is the case or that might be different? to i think that well. i think at some point we will get this back. what is going it's going to do is invest more in infrastructure. we have been asleep for many years. because of our opponents, the production of natural gas prices have been low, heating and oil prices have been dow. so we are not taking into consideration that we could actually winter. the last five winters have been warmer than normal. we have taken a loss a fair approach. i think that we have learned a lot of lessons here. if you face your business and what we have seen that is warmer

than normal, that may not be the normal. it may not be global warming. you will have to change for the possibility that we will see more winters like this. more demand in the future, which will demand more energy and infrastructure. neil: if you are planning for business 20 some people are ving a tough time getting to work and others like customers are having a tough time getting to your shot. that has effects of its own. >> yes, it does. it raises the cost of production if you can't get the materials into the assembly ine. it raises labor costs because now you have insurance and activities and other things that have to get factored into it. maybe haven't unacquainted to deal with. you have to take people off the ster. there are a lot of things when it comes into play. this is a quarter to from now. so the myth is that this is going to be short term. and this is a big enough storm that five years from now we are going to be thinking differently about the weather. th is really the lesson that is being driven home today's. neil: thank you both so much. stay warm.

and then there is this. >> we continue to put 90 million tons of global warming pollution into the atmosphere every single day. that is one of the oceans that are warmer. the air is warmer and the droughts are deeper in the floods are bigger anthe ice is melting. neil: let' say back here a lot of folks talk about global warming because of the ridiculous cool. so david, it is no surprise that the dow would be there and bemoaning global warming. it has been a clear focus. and you were telling us that it was going to get so long in the winters that we wod need bermuda shorts. so now we recalibrating to see

what fits our fancy? >> yes, it is bizarre. not just because those of us in the eastern half of the u.s. are freezing, but because claims are supported by science and a really science fiction. huricane sandy, we had a ndred times more likely than it was 30 years ago. you look at the numbers not there. and there's low confidence in there being any relationship with co2 and the weather extremes that he is talking about. neil: when you talk about this, whether you want to attach that to man or not, the idea to jump them and take that as a multi-trillion dollar fix that isn't borne out than you on

slippery slopes here, aren't you? >> yes, the very slippery slope. again, those extremes,e don't see that pattern that we are asserting. he wants what is going on? when you have seen these huge climatic shifts and people have not attached any hstory for saying that this is part of a. >> we are like mayflies more than we are like tortoises when it comes to geolic timand perspective on that. if you look at the data, you can go find out the noaa website. you can look at friends of her case. it is loud and doesn't seem to be related. so there are ups and downs.

this doesn't disprove or prove anything about climate change. but i guarantee that next summer al gore and his others will be saying that this is the weather that is climate shift. >> aainted climate change and then they said that the heat and the cold is all part of this climate change. so no matter what you point to it's global warming and its ridiculous. >> it is unbelievable and that is exactly right. and we are seeing all of that sort of stuff and i have so many models tht say that we have a model that predicts this or that. they are all different models

his bad behavior to repeat it. neil: i always think you should never let them see you sweat. never let them see when multi-moment by not looking like him and not moment. >> it's a fine ne. you don't want to have a crazy out of control moment like you said. at the same time you don't want to. this way. neil: he combed his hair, it looks a little deranged.
