okay, thank you so much are watching. have a beautiful super bowl. we will be back on monday morning helping you to nurse your hangover and your good day in washington and wall street, as well, awkward presidential pivots, president obama said more government programs are the answer to job creation, and house speaker boehner said the republican party is no longer simply the opposition party. former arkansas governor mike huckabee joins us. he'll have his thoughts on all of that. good evening, everybody. president obama back on the campaign trail to push his state of the union message, his so-called year of action, today
8:01 pm
beginning with a signing of an executive order to expand federal job training programs, president obama himself admitted his proposal lacks anything that could be described as a new idea. >> so, what we're going to do, we're going to review all of the federal job training programs, then we're going to be supporting local ones. which ones are working best and let's duplicate them and expand them. >> it would worry some of that the president doesn't already know which programs are working and which aren't working. a bizarre shot at higher education, president obama telling his audience that college is just not necessary for success. >> lot of young people no longer see the trades and skilled manufacturing as a viable career but i promise you, folks can

make a lot more potentially with skilled manufacturing with the trades than with an art history degree, i'm just saying, you can make a really good living and have a great career without getting a four-year college education. >> lot of parents will be talking with their sons and daughters about their art history choices as a major. and while the president back on to never-ending campaign trail, house republicans were at their annual retreat, discussing their next moves on both immigration and obama care, speaker john boehner trying to rebrand the republican party as a quote alternative to the president instead of mere opposition. fox news chief congressional correspondent mike emanuel with our repor >> house republicans leaders are taking on major issues such as a finding alternative to obama

>> we are not doing right by the american people. >> yes some house republicans note that president obama once said having no program dealing with our long-term debt is a failure. they would like mr. obama to put pressure on his fellow democrats to get this done. >> this has been placed on the house to lead, the president is required to lead. he's made it clear he wants a clear debt ceiling. >> of course, republicans would like to control tha other half the senate, and part of laying out an alternative vision designed to show what republicans can do in both chambers. >> score one for the republican party. apologized to chairman reinus pre

i'm glad your name wasn't on the list. i would be way back. >> you have never been safer. >> you know what, i think all of the talk about who's going to run and who's leading, little premature, the most important thing that republicans have to focus on getting control of the senate, pushing harry reid back to the room. he has become the great hen sitting on the egg of every idea coming out of the house. things go in and they never come out. >> senator ted cruz said today, republicans will lose their opportunity to regain control of the senate if the boehner plan goes forward, that is, apparently his preference for a pathway to citizenship and any reform legislation, rather than full support for the chairman cjudiciary committee.
8:09 pm
pathway to legal status instead of citizenship. >> i think soenator cruz's righ on this. what's the hurry? what's the urgency to take a democratic plan and rush it into legislation? the last time we rushed into legislation that the democrats dreamed up, we got obama care, and unless there's some serious, oughtful discussion on how any reform would be implemented, i think republicans ought to throttle back and wait until you they take both house and senate, then they can manage that legislation far more effectively before it becomes blanket amnesty, not onlyor the republican party but a disaster for the country. >> there are some wrest control from the democrats, the senate and house, that would automatically disaster for the country.
