turning to our top story is the bipartisan congressional budget office today releasing a report that shows the grim effects of obamacare on the economy and on jobs and wages. the report reads the cbo updated estimate of the decrease in work translates to a reduction of old-time equivalent employment of about 2 million in 2017. rising to about 2.5 million and 2024. and previously the agency estimated that if the aca did not affect the average number of hours for each employed person, it would reduce household employment in 2021 by about 800,000. by way of comparison for 2021 of

about 2.3 million. the white house scrambled their top economic advisers to the briefing room, preempting jay carney, the cbo report apparently catching the white house by surprise. and here is jason furman struggling to explain the loss of more than 2 million jobs is an act of liberation and the benefit. not a negative particle and of obamacare. >> the estimated reduction stems almost entirely from the labor that the workers choose to supply rather than from a net drop in the business demand for labor. this is a choice on the part of workers.

the. lou: we will hear that expression for some time. the white house trying to make the case that a 2.5 million reduction, the so-called option that the president people refer to is by subsidizing and expanding medicaid rules to all-time highs. the government is effectively incentivizing american to stop working. leading economists warn about the potential effects were economy. damages macroeconomic performance. according to the cbo, obamacare is slowing employment income and growth to the degree that americans are discouraged from working. maury harris simply rejects the white house's statement, saying

requirements of obamacare would force millions of cancellations. one analyst extended the range predictions to the end of 2014 showing 76% of small employer plans would be forced into obamacare along with 55% of large employer plans. >> that is going to be a big story because there are a lot more people with employer sponsored insurance. >> they didn't comply with the new rules and regulations now they are forcing everyone to comply. for many americans that will be more expensive coverage. >> raising the question of whether employers will drop their plans because they are too expensive for them and workers coming to think there was enough when only 4 million policies got canceled and forced into obamacare, wait until the numbers rise to 50 million or more, which is why something the president might offer yet another delay. lou: jim angle. the senate today passed a massive five-year farm bill

[laughter] in which you find out what was going on with the public books. i mean, this is an astonishing story. why should the taxpayer be paying for union activities for a worker who isn't doing his or her government job? >> well, $1 55 million is one of the few thing we know about official time. that is an official government number. when you try to get agencies to explain it, when you try to get agencies to account for it. when you try to get agencies to tell you a break down of how many people are taking this. how many people on full-time release from the regular jobs. most of them can't do it. some of them can't -- big agencies like the department of defense and justice can't produce any numbers. so that tells you they're not watching it. >> it tells you they're not watching it. if they can't explain it tell you the number may not be as accurate as we would like to believe.

white house economists and independent economists align with the administration like david harvard were arguing that this labor force participation rate would not decline as a result of obamacare because it didn't decline in the case of massachusetts and romneycare. so obamacare had nothing to do worry about. we learn that is not true. why? obamacare's actually different from romneycare in the effect on the economy. lou: yeah. we don't have to get in to the weeds on this thing. the fact is, that the congressional budget office said straightforwardly that obamacare will result in a reduction in the rate of growth in compensation. in other words, it would be much higher had no affordable care act, and the jobs are going to be less than they were. i mean, -- >> and -- sorry. you speak to one person who said, you know, this is what i want. just go to the regular folks on the street. are you kidding? do i choose to work less? do i choose to have less of a

job in do i choose to make less money and fewer hours? no. no. and no. >> i think there are some people who work because they in general they are older americans who work because they want to have health care. there's no question about that. i can't put a number on it. i don't believe the administration can either. it's the dick kens not 2.3 million. >> the political impact of this is going to be when you take the 2.4 million jobs, you break it down by states. then you run tv commercials in those states saying 187,000 jobs in louisiana. some other number in another state. it's going to make democratic senate incumbents very nervous. it's going to be another reason they're going to run like scalded dogs away from obamacare. >> let's not forget. the real people harmed aren't just the people who have the hour dialed back. it's the taxpayers. because less people are actually working, less people are paying

taxes. which means people still working, those are the chumps because their tax dollars have to be stretched further and further to support the people who aren't working. lou: yeah. i think there are a lot of chumps in this. there are a lot of chumps who signed up. whether democrat or republican and simply not happening. t an administration, i mean, this administration simply doesn't succeed at any initiative it launches. i want to the get to the issue now of illegal immigration. and what we're hear fromming the republican party which is the secret meetings with senator chuck schumer. i want to tell you, folks, i'm one of the guys who had quote, unquote, sscret meetings with senator schumer.
