lou: my next guest says sergeant bergdahl is a deserter who failed his fellow soldiers and the oath he swore to up hold. joining us, samuel who served with sergeant bergdahl, in 2009. sam, good to have you with us. this is -- thank you, sir. lou: this story, and exchange set off amazing emotion amongst those of you, at least to a person who has come forward, who served with him in afghanistan, have you no doubt, he walked off his post? >> well, sir, in my opinion, it of very clear to us what happened in these days as it was

unfolding. i do believe, yes, sir,ly was relieved of guard duty, and left in the guard of night. lou: what was evidence that suggested that to you, and your comrades there at that remote outpost, it was an incirclement of vehicles of which you set up with i guess wire, and a perimeter to protect, is that right? >> well, i had been - been -- it physically present there. i was at a different station when it happened in afghanistan. we're all friends with people in the other companies. and it was -- there was no reason to distrust anything that anyone was saying. >> how long did you know the sergeant? >> bergdahl, i -- h i had a few

superficial conversations with him, i did not know him well. well. i was good friending with his medic, from superficial conversations, i would say he is a quiet person. >> so what happened in the days after he disappeared? walked off base? which seems to be -- is there anyone in the 501st who knew the man who doubts that is what happened? >> tonight knowledge, as far as i am aware, i have not heard anyone saying to the contrary. i do not know if there are people who believe it or not. but in days following that, it was really consumed by the dust 1 operations to get him back. there were other operations

going on at the time as well. but, that was what was following and regardless of circumstances surrounding his disappearance and capture could we were all out there risks our lives to get him back that was the general consensus regardless of how we felt. lou: elements of 501st searching for the sergeant? >> it was much larger than just 5100st. the whole 425, anyone in the paktika province was involved in trying to find information to lead to us him. lou: you treated at least one of the soldiers who was involveee in this search? correct in. >> yes. that is correct. staff sergeant kirk curtis was killed in an operation or a

missiomission to the best of our understanding we were going to get a high-value target who was supposedly connected to the group that captured bergdahl. and i was there. lou: and sergeant curtis, died of his wounds? and the emotions in this have to be high. what is your feeling tonight? about whether or not bergdahl should be brought up on charges, and what do you think of the way that media is responding, washington is responding? and your fellow soldiers issue the military? >> i am proud of my brothers in the 501 st*r, i am proud of

them, i can understand all of the statements that are happening from people that did not experience it and were not. >>, i can see where september simp might -- skepticism meeting involved. i do not believe personaly that he served with honor, i feel those of us who were outlooking for him, regardless which ever unit you were in i believe you served with honor, that is my personal feeling on that one. lou: do you want him brought up on charges? >> yes. i would personaly like to see him brought up on charges, and court-martials for desertion, i think that truth will speak for itself. lou: samuel matsamitsu . >> thank you, sir.
