guns. he felt he had no way out. he had lost his good name. what a tragic way to end for such a courageous individual. ashley: a big part of this book as he wanted to find out what are the qualities of these explorers, not only these two, but the other great explorers, what did you find out? >> again, as you and i have discussed, as i wrote this book i began to wonder what qualities do they possess that i didn't possess? what is the difference between guys like that and guys were a little more normal? i found there was a progression, curiosity of courage, passion, independence, self-discipline and perseverance. that is the path to greatness for any great undertaking if you are steve jobs or lewis and clark were chris for columbus, that is the path that gets you from point a to point b. it was fun to research that.
