fervor. that last one i would be careful. >> you look great. wherever you are does you well. >> thank you very much. >> i h h h h h h h h h h h h h . not the stock so much. >> jobs up as jobless benefits go down. the june employment report a big winner. the trend is definitely higher and it is happening as this trend is lower. some here say that is no coincidence. are they right? hi, everyone. happy july 4 weekend. let's go with mr. steve forbes, john tandy, elizabeth, rick, and bruce. john, is this a coincidence that the unemployment benefits go down just as job growth goes up?

>> no, there is a very obvious correlation. incentives matter. if you know you're going to get a check from the government whether you're working or not, there is lesds incentive to go out and look for a job. unemployment benefits make it more expensive for businesses to hire you. the correlation is very clear. this is a positive step. >> and bruce, there is a colleague of yours because he lives in chicago. wrote a piece in the wall street journal talking about how a lot of recruiters were complaining when the unemployment benefits were going strong, people would apply for jobs not with the intention of accepting them but to demonstrate to the unemployment office that they were looking for work.

>> i guess i would have to disagree with that because i think people want to work. i think when people do find a job they can't take unemployment benefits any more. i think one of the bad things in this report is that wages are not rising, which also may show that people are taking jobs that are of a lower wage, which proves once again that they want to work. they don't want to be on these benefits. >> there was another negative. the labor pool is just as small as it was before. >> do they help or hurt the number? >> obviously they hurt too long. i think another factor is at work here david and that is finally banks are starting to lend again.

no new taxes on the federal level. and bank lending, huge job incentive leader. >> when you were insent vised not to look for work because sometimes you don't make that much more than you would sitting al home. >> except you do. let's be honest. there will always be a few bad apples who really don't want to work and they show up to collect unemployment. that's a very small number of people. people not only want to work but if you understand how small an unemployment check is, it doesn't go very far. the trick is to create jobs that will put them in there. i don't think we can drop that back. >> it's true that unemployment checks are not that much but you add up all the unemployment benefits that have been offered by the government and it does add up.

>> more people went on food stamps and disability and welfare. there's a trade off there when you cut benefits. >> there is literally a washington employee going out and trying to sell things like food stamps. people accept it because it's free. when i look at the report, the thing that struck me were two different numbers. those are people who are working part time but want full-time work. to me that says that's the real problem. we have a lot of people who want better work but they simply can't get it and employers are not adding hours.

>> business investment has been lagging, innovation has been lagging. when you have an uncertain dollar you have rising taxes and you don't know what it will cost to hire somebody. >> there is also another negative incentive. >> it is easier for companies to fire people. now the government takes care of that.

>> they are putting up barriers that would lead to job creation. >> and the tone coming out of government is so bad how did he do it? optimism is the fourth multiplier. >> we just had the president on friday in an interview saying, and i am quoting the president saying we have to continue to see how we can rebalance the

economy sensibly. so he is continuing to talk about the government. >> right. he is completely misguided. a practical solution. right? >> the bigger problem is i think this is right. we all want to help people who are in need right now. it is the government's way of helping creating more of a problem. we should help people but these mortgage programs and the food stamp programs. >> let me speak out for gridl k gridlock. the fact that the democrats who come in can't agree on anything means that certain programs do expire. we see the economy improving.

the -- the more the economy will recover on its own. >> i'm not so sure about that. >> the figures seem to indicate that. >> it is going to recover on its own but i think it will recover a lot quicker. >> john said david is right. go ahead. >> that's two times in two weeks that tammy has agreed with me. the negativity that the government and the citizens have displayed is a big part of what has kept this economy down. >> let washington state go. >> i'm with you.

where people buy coverage unexchange. people are saying go buy your own health care. you may disagree with the government subsidy but private employers are saying here is a chunk of money, go buy your own health care. >> bruce, i love you. you set the table for debate so neatly. >> they're not going go back to where they were before. what is going to evolve and just don't get sick for the next three years is a system for the first time where patients are in charge. that means true catastrophic health insurance. that means cheaper insurance,

nationwide coverage. you will see the delivery system change for all of health care. there is so much about obama care that works against independence. you can't deduct as much. there is a whole host of issues that moves away from independence. now that everybody can get insurance, remember it was not that long ago. the only way you could get it was through a company employment plan. there is one big problem we have to tackle. company has a bargaining power of a lot of participants. when you're on your own you're on your own.

>> a whole host of ways where we become more dependent now. >> obamacare is trying to decouple employment and shoourns but they are going about it all the wrong way. the government was mandating these excessively high types of contraception. hobby lobby was covering 16 of the 20 mandated coverage. why not let the consumer buy the four? >> they will have the freedom to do that. the idea that there is no access to contraception is ridiculous. there were only four out of 20

forms of contraception that hobby lobby decided that they could not get behind but their employees could go out and get those if they insisted. >> of course they can. i think future history books will marvel at the idea that we put guilty in control of health care. the idea that capitalism can't provide us with health care is laughable. most people get it. >> sabrina, at least hobby lobby won't be forced to subsidize forcing people to do what they may not want to do.

>> david, i think one of the problems is that the supporters on the right and critics on the left have made this a conversation about birth control rather than about health care. we want employers and employees to be able to negotiate freely. we want them to be able to decide if they want more salary, take home pay or stronger benefit package. we want that freedom in the workplace. this rulely is a step in that direction. >> shouldn't that be individual? we are headed that way and that's what i'm talking about the private exchanges. increasingly employers and a lot of people have said it. employers are wanting to get out from under health care. so they are raising deductibles, co-pays -- >> the whole system is preposterous. all it does is prepay next
