gop. we see money moving into a whole host of sectors. nasdaq composite has been higher. giving up a fair amount of the game plan on the session, s&p and russell in positive territory. that is it for "the opening bell". time for "varney and company". over to you. stuart: so much good news for you and your money ought to be illegal. look at this. we will start with the resounding republican victory. it was a repudiation of the president's performance and his incompetent government. in a republican congress private enterprise as a shot and that is good. move on to energy, the price of gas drops some more. that is good. look at that market. new highs on the day after added up. is a turning point for politics, policy and the money in your pocket. can you handle that all? you bet. as sarah palin would say and she is with us today, "varney and company" is about to begin.

hitting brand new highs today. johnson and johnson, microsoft, nike, procter and gamble and there is more. travelers, united health, visa, all stocks you own in the mutual-fund or your 401(k), all of the record highs. after election when there is a democrat in the white house and republicans control congress it brings an average 21% rally on the s&p 500 over the next six months. that is some number, what do you make of it, charlie gasparino? >> i would say this. should hold. it depends whether president obama goes live in skeet or bill clinton. inga two ways. can increase republicans. doesn't have to get rid of obamacare. he can embrace them somewhat. he can get rid of some really nasty aspect of dodd-frank, maybe some tax cut. if he does that he will put hillary clinton in the white house and he will have a decent

next two years. my guess he will go solo and i don't think the market will do very well. i don't think the economy will do well. i think it will be stuck in its current -- stuart: and what he does this afternoon -- i want to highlight three state races because i think we saw a tax revolt in these three. states that have high taxation rates. look at them. maryland, massachusetts and president's home state of illinois turned red. mary kissel from the wall street journal editorial board is here. that is a tax revolt. maria: is a tax revolt. you said it all. illinois pat quinn picked personal income taxes and corporate income taxes. you saw businesses fleeing that state, one of the worst performing state in the nation, same story in maryland. of valley heads, texas, 40 times their gdp growth zero last year, they are number 49 out of 50

states in the nation. mass. deval patrick same thing. his sales-tax hike was four years ago. charlie baker coming in saying he will tiger taxes more. i will be a competent steward of your tax money. jo lin king you will be those three states have republicans? >> i can't believe this because this was a referendum not just some liberal governance but bureaucratic breakdown, the fact that you don't see any sort of growth in your pocketbook. i'm not surprised at all. stuart: it shocked me when i saw it but there you are. take it as it comes. let's get to the senate where it was very nearly a clean sweep in all the important races. iowa, polls showed it was nick in nick where joni rinsed won comfortably, 8.-- how did the polls get that wrong?
