retailers are pulling out all of the tricks for the second shortest holiday season ever. are you done with your holiday shopping, or on a cup? >> what kind of profit margins will the company skit? the sales are just going on longer and longer. you are just more crushed to do it. >> right. these are the early stages of it. they are even lower here going into thanksgiving. this is terrible here.

any of the official channels. we expect the announcement to come through them. they are supposed to get a heads up if an announcement is imminent. the attorneys have not been notified. a lot of buzz, but no official confirmation. we see the demonstrators out on the street every night. last night, there was a little bit of trouble. captain ron brown anticipates that there is a lot of hype. he anticipates that most people want to express their opinions peacefully. through it all, officer darren wilson got married. he was married october 242 his live in girlfriend. they are expecting a baby.

they are both members of the ferguson police force. melissa: thank you so much for that report. officer darren wilson had been meeting with news anchors. some of the anchors confirming the off the record meeting. they have stayed quiet on their attempt to get wilson first. he joins me now. there is a lot of reasons why this is really interesting. darren wilson is really doing a great disappearing act during this whole thing. >> it makes him more ethical in the business. we have not heard his side. it was set what we got all of this information. we heard nothing until fairly recently.

>> that is the big interview. various anchors have flown out for these off the record hearings. they try to persuade him that they should do the interview with him. they are all saying that they had these off the record meetings. is there anything yucky about that? >> on one hand, anchors always do this. i will give you -- >> you think that they actually say that? >> i want you to be able to tell your story. we will give you all kinds of time. we know so little about darren wilson's version of events. there is something that makes me deeply uncomfortable.

easily get lost and frankly my clients when i deliver a statement they kind of like the simplicity of it but it speaks to the fact the millennials, then new investors may actually like this in traction because it is very cool, very cutting-edge and could get them interested. melissa: when normal people read the company plan, their eyes glaze over and they think maybe this is the way not for us, we are too old, but for people younger than we are to get engaged, what do you think? >> they have no money. they voted for president obama, making less money so i don't even think they have portfolios. that is the problem, people that generally invest in this country are older. they will have money when they are older and these gimmicks don't work.

melissa: goldman sachs turning to tech investing in a company that could replace stock analysts with algorithms. what do you think? >> algorithms replacing people is extremely dangerous. i override algorithms with things going on that i can watch and see. i am not sure they can do that because it causes the market to dislocate itself. melissa: you have the analyst out of school pressing f5 and doing the model again and again. they don't have to do the model anymore. >> it is just modeling the environment, that is fine but eventually the model could see its place in the facade. >> this has been going on for about 12 years, stock analysts are going extinct on wall street in a bull market.

melissa: it is the first cap next level shakeup since the midterms. president obama announced this morning defense secretary chuck hagel is resigning. high-profile republican leave halfway into his four years term. for more, let's go to peter barnes at the white house. peter: some sources say chuck hagel has been pushed out, others say this was a mutual decision. the white house is sticking with the mutual decision story saying the two men began talking october ahead of the mitchell elections about hagel stepping down saying this was a natural point post-midterm transition time for a lot of presidents,

but there are signs of stress in this relationship. hagel criticize criticize the pt serious strategy, there were links to various media outlets suggesting the president is going to shake up his national security team and that meant hagel. white house press secretary josh earnest saying only the administration faced new challenges around the world in the president's final quarter as it put it. isis and ebola. at a minimum the frustration felt they could use a new defense secretary. here was the president earlier. >> last month chuck came to me to discuss the final quarter of my presidency and determined having guided the department through this transition it was an appropriate time for him to complete his service. >> now, there are three and is being quoted for this possible successor, one is the shell,

former under century of defense foreign policy and also ashton carter, former deputy secretary of defense and senator jack reed, former army officer. melissa: peter, thank you so much. here for reaction we have ron christie, former assistant to president george w. bush at thank you to both of you for joining me. what statement due to the white house is making with this? >> the white house make a statement by saying if you disagree with president obama publicly, you will end up paying for it. chuck hagel was pushed out, if you recall the defense secretary of defense made the comment he didn't necessarily agree with the present strategy related to isis on the heels of president obama saying they were nothing more than jv. the single i'm getting is he better be on the same page as the president otherwise you are on the outside looking in. melissa: is that how you interpret it?

>> it is very clear there is one person who watches the president on messaging and personnel more than anybody else and it is valerie jarrett. looking at the politics of this and the politics of the president's foreign policy have been terrible. a white house that micromanage his foreign policy things change in personnel and agency would help. it has been the white house where the problem resides. melissa: what does this say about who they will pick next? a number of names have been out there. senator jack reed. the runner up for this slot, michelle, is another one. and ashton carter as well. what do you think? >> first and foremost they will have some way for the same score scoresheet as a president. steve is right in his analysis in the sense if you're not on the same messaging page of the senior white house staff, you're not the same page as the president. i look to somebody like michelle mentioned very prominently the

first time around. i would not rule out jack reed getting his experience in the military. melissa: what does it say to our enemies about our strategy? >> it doesn't tell them we have a strategy. the president doesn't need a reason to ask the secretary and cap next resign but needs a reason why somebody else is uniquely qualified for this time. michelle is talked about a lot. she would be the least qualified person to be secretary of defense in the history of the department going from undersecretary to two steps up to secretary. harry reid is a friend of the president, traveling with the president when chuck hagel did in the 2008 election cycle would be a more natural move by it looks as if the white house is prepared to play perhaps gender politics to distract from the policy disy melissa: tough a time when we

i have been to a lot of opec meetings my lifetime, this is when they get very tense, oil prices are high, everybody's happy, and then they are fighting. what do you make of all of this? >> i think what is happening with saudi arabia, they might be taking our eye off the ball. rumor was to gain back some of the market share or maybe opec will raise fares or not raise theirs. it is beginning to be a big problem. i think all of those taking eye off the ball because oil still a harbor chair for the economy and still worry about deflation. those two things are the cause for the oil prices to be low. typically think it is oversold. melissa: i have made that same argument. people very fond we more supply
