>> i think that they will start getting worse here. starting to snow here in washington. kind of a slushy, when to remix. this is what the airport folks were worried about. you have to worry about deicing. it is the busiest travel day of the year. the highest since 2007. all of this thanks to the improving economy. so far, we have about 1000 delays here in the u.s. about 400 cancellation. this is from flight aware.com.

it takes all this data and puts it into what they call the misery map for travelers. this nor'easter is moving up. right now, the both cancellations are right there in your backyard at newark. charles: you started breaking up. whether it is rain, snow, it is always visible at newark airport. thanks a lot. let's check on the big board. relatively flat. all the action has been on the s&p and nasdaq. what take a look at the s&p 500. it is edging a little bit higher.

the national average for a gallon of regular is still holding steady. now we are up to 40 states and the $2 club. the average price of regular gas is below $3 in so many places. nicole petallides on the floor of the new york stock exchange. >> the stock is down 1.6%. the grain prices, though corn prices have been falling. with this in the future going forward, it is somewhat of a concern. they do not have the cash to buy this you quit that.

charles: take a look at the s&p 500. that is up. great news for your wallet. the national average for a gallon of regular still holding

steady. we are now up to 40 states in the $2 club. averaging above $3 a gallon. rain or snow hitting the east coast on the busiest travel day of the year. maria molina is live in the travel center. >> we still have areas of rain across parts of florida open to the carolinas. this white stuff here. also picking up that snowfall. especially along some of those higher elevations. you can see more than three hours on average.

a big concern out here is not just the rain and snow. the very strong wind. that in itself will cause travel delays. all the way down through parts of virginia and west virginia. a bit tricky part of the forecast today is what will happen as far as snowfall accumulation. we have that rain, snow line right along these areas. you see snow mixing into that rain in new york city. some of the darker blue is accumulations. very significant out there.

farther off towards the west, we also have a clipper system moving through. very cold temperatures and gusty wind. parts of the northern rockies northern rockies also looking at some snow moving through. take a look at the rest of the country. looking pretty good. sixtys and 70s out there. not everyone is dealing with that travel weather. >> that is right. you get laguardia and jfk shut down, that shuts down everyone. golden corral. picking up 50,000 turkeys. off to serve tomorrow.

open on thanksgiving. it almost sounds counterintuitive. >> it has. first of all, happy things giving to you, charles. we have been open for 20 years on thanksgiving day. no other restaurants or a few other restaurants were open. in fact now, most all restaurants are open. the industry is looking for a big day tomorrow. what makes this so special? >> the business is really good. the reason is because people want to spend time with their

family. when there is an opportunity to spend time with your family before the meal at home and not cooking. charles: this trend is more prevalent with younger families. have we seen some sort of paradigm shift, if you will with americans willing to eat out more and more no matter what the cost. >> though one point oh, one of the points they came up with is there is more interest in dining out during the holidays. we see that in our own business. it is very strong. mother's day is our biggest day. father's day is next.

the next day is thanksgiving day. these new regulations, they require restaurant chains like yours to post these calorie counts. and lots of smaller restaurants are sending this is too much. >> first of all, the law only applies to chains of 20 restaurants or more. the small independents are not covered in this legislation. the industry should not be surprised. this is part of the affordable care act. they participated in the development of the legislation. this really is not news to us. we have been working on this for a long time. how do we tell people how many calories are in the food they

learning being a lame duck takes a lot of work as he and his team work the phones feverishly to stave off a potential bipartisan tax bill, vowing to veto it if it hits his desk. harry reid is the architect of this major tax bill and he works closely with republicans to make it happen. the deal seek to make permanent 55 tax breaks scheduled to expire in december telling them for $40 billion and include break near and dear to both sides of the aisle. here are some of them. $156 billion tax credit, $73 billion for small business investments, $97 billion college costs called the american opportunity tax credit, $16 billion in charitable giving coupled with comments from prominent democratic senator chuck schumer and it seems the obama legacy is taking a licking as the troops abandon ship. here is what the senator had to say. >> democrats blew the opportunity the american people

gave. we took their mandate and put their focus on the wrong problem. health-care reform. americans were crying out for the end to the recession. for better wages and more jobs, not changes in health care. ♪ >> the wall street journal's dan henninger is here. i got to tell you something. it seems like the democrats are in full on revolts of president obama, distancing themselves, harry reid cutting a bill with the democrats and of course chuck schumer saying we blew it with obamacare. >> president obama was going to change washington. i tell you something, this tax bill is perfect. this is what used to be known in washington as a christmas tree bill. it has a little something on it

for everyone and your description just touched the tip of the christmas tree. you know why harry reid is supporting this bill is to include a deduction for sales tax in nevada. that is a christmas tree bill. some of these make economic sense and what they're trying to do. the reason that exists is the corporate tax rate in the united states, is the highest in the industrial world. income-tax rates are high at the high end as well. it has always been understood in washington that you cannot have these high tax rates unless you create all of these exemptions and loopholes. that is what the tax cut is the mess that it is. charles: the president comes in, the tax code, make it simpler but it is ultimately going to become more complicated whether

now or somewhere down all roads to adjust to policies. >> the white house, a child tax credits and income-tax credit pushed into this bill and they are saying it only benefits well-heeled well-connected corporations. every provision in that bill whether it is helping poor people or corporations, has a lobbyist behind it. it will heal the lobbyists pushing for it and that is the way the tax system works in washington. president obama was embarrassed in the middle of the least attractive aspects of what washington had become. now we have people like chuck schumer saying we are getting off the obama train all together. charles: you just brought it up. there are things in this bill that obama wants desperately and they expire dec. 31st. what happens if there is no extension of the earned income tax credit, the suit covers and he put in war the child tax

credit or $4,000 deduction for college costs and those things. what happens? is he willing to roll the dice and let that expire as well? >> it is a game of chicken. when they come back in january the senate has it within its power to act but it may not have everything in it that president obama wants. does he want to get into a long-term game of chicken, so many participants waiting? these apply to tax bills this year in 2014. i think the solution is to go forward and do what some republicans like dave camp of house ways and means, paul ryan wants to get a complete new tax bill, rationalize the tax code, you have to get rid of a lot of these cats and dogs so you can lower rates and not have to engage in this unseemly horsetrading. charles: can that happen with the president still in the white house? >> it will be difficult because

the president could have had a lower corporate tax rate for the last five years but because he wants corporations to pay higher rates by including these exemptions they haven't been able to get that deal done. charles: how does it feel? you were spot on from day one. as the clock went on we have seen everything you want about come to fruition. is there any satisfaction with that or is it bittersweet? >> there is some satisfaction. the midterm elections suggest the american people themselves have decided that a lot of these promises and claims that big government was making in terms of benefiting them simply were not coming true. chuck schumer said in that speech the democrats are the party of government. they have to show how government

works. charles: >> the snow just started. it is very dark in new york city, could cause major headaches on the busiest travel day of the year. meteorologist janice dean is live in the weather center. i'm getting nervous about people who didn't make it to groundhogs. >> major delays at the airport, and traveling today, make sure you are aware there are a big delays, up until the i-95 cord or causes a ripple effect across the u.s. and the clippers system over the midwest will cause some delays for areas like chicago. here is the big system. area of low pressure developing off the coast and we're seeing the "imus in the morning" snow event west of i-95 the we are getting some mixing here. let's look at it right now. light green being reported in d.c. snow in philadelphia and rain in new york, it was

snowing. right on the line of rain and snow and that could cut back snow totals. and that is on average for philadelphia, an hour-and-a-half and this is 12:00, and we will see more delays, it is going to wind up through the evening and up towards the new england area. this is an interior section. that will cause delays but in terms of big snow totals is west of the i 95 corridor, with big cities, and would really depends on where that snow, rain line sets up. we up those snow totals if that rain and snow line waivers so we are into a now casting situations throughout the day where we are going moment by moment. thanksgiving day lot of people watching macy's thanksgiving day

some rules for these multi order helicopters that are unmanned and this is what they are working on and the pricetag is between $500, and $1,000 and go pro continues to be the leader in wearable cameras. they face competition from sony and that is that year over year growth on those and they are delving into those as well. charles: let's stay on your money and bring in harry dent from tampa. you have two areas for the dow jones industrials that you see playing out over the next six months or so but neither ends well. want to explain it to us? >> we have been saying for months this is a bubble, keeps getting exponential, this recent superstar surge is the sharpest gain in the market in five weeks in the history of the stock market confirms we are in the late stage of the bible but the strength of the surge broke some key resistance levels, we're probably going to go higher

before this peaks so we look at this chart and we can bring it up. i see two scenarios, we have a supersharp surge. if we get a sharp crash again it goes below the last low, 15,800 on the dow that would say we peaked. if we get a more minor correction we are likely in the next four weeks or so going to surge in february, march, we could see a high as high as 19,000 on the dow. the resistance is the old high from the tech bubble and the nasdaq in early 2000, 5,050. that is 5% to 6%, more potential for this bubble, we are looking for a bigger crash if we go up that high in the next summit months. charles: the nasdaq has been on fire, the blue chips are relatively flat. you don't make any adjustments for inflation.

5,050, shouldn't that be a lot higher number if you adjust for inflation or doesn't matter with technical analysis? >> technical analysis, we do both, we look at charts with inflation-adjusted and not. we call it in silver, $49 was testing the high from the last bubble at $49 and 1980, that was an adjusted for inflation. i do think that this is the last major resistance in the stock market. it is a corrective wave and this is strong resistance that is only 5% higher than here. i think the market is due for a correction short-term but that correction will tell if it is going higher and as bearish as i and i favor we will go higher. charles: here is the key take away. audience should know 15,800 is the key number, we get there, that is when you want to take profits. weaken prop this all day long

remained steady. farm bureau does the survey, $0.11 down this year, the price of the average turkey, $21.65. the other big bargain for you this thanksgiving as you pointed out earlier if you're going to go somewhere nine of ten people travel by car. they're getting a rebate because gas prices are below $3 a gallon at every state in the union. overall cost of the thanksgiving meal, you see it there, pretty steady actually and somebody did it take out on comparing this, inflation adjusted dollars compared to what we spent in 1911. if the same meal was eaten today, $167.77 with inflation is what it would have cost in 1911 so we are getting a deal. we produce a lot of food in this country.
