continue to pump as much oil -- yes or no? >> guesstimate a well. liz: happy thanksgiving, everyone. gerri willis is next. gerri: hello, i am adam shapiro and for gerri willis. the busiest travel day is turning into heavy winds, rain, and as much as a foot of snow, people flying face thousands of delays and cancellations and if you do get off the ground, your plane is probably stuck like a thanksgiving turkey. we have you covered on all angles tonight. teeter barnes is at reagan national airport. we have mark murphy here with us and our travel experts. we have needs no advice for everyone. but first, let's bring in janice dean to get the latest on the weather today.

>> i wish i had better news. but we are dealing with this storm off the coast. janice: the good news is that we are not seeing the big snow totals and we are seeing random snow through philadelphia. and we are seeing the snow lines and pouty conditions and we are expecting this snow event as we go through the evening. the delays, an hour or two hours, three hours at newark, new jersey. hundreds of cancellations not only in the northeast but across the country very we have the ripple effect with delays and cancellations across the interstate 95 court order. the worst of the storm will be out of here by thursday at 6:00 a.m. and upgrade should go off about very close to on time. then we will deal with gusts, 40 miles per hour along the

coast, so even if conditions are improving we are going to have blustery conditions. thanksgiving day, much improved across the upper midwest and the great lakes and it's going to be cold, very nice for the southeast and then when the conditions for new england and then we have a storm system moving into the northwest that is going to bring increment weather. a pretty good turkey day, so if you couldn't travel today, tomorrow morning is the best time to travel. for your parade forecast you can watch us on television or see it in new york city. not too bad for the forecast, we are going to feel even colder with northwest when i 10 to 20 miles per hour. all in all, not a bad forecast for the thanksgiving day parade. snow totals, one to 2 inches, one to 3 inches in new york and then bulk of the moisture and the snow will be north and west of the court order. some areas towards new england will get 18 inches of snow for turkey day. hopefully everyone got to their

final destination. adam: janice dean, thank you so much. turning to peter barnes with the latest on flight travel tonight and also tomorrow, i know you're waiting to catch a flight and hopefully it's looking good for you. reporter: the aaa estimates 3.5 million people are flying somewhere tonight to get to turkey day tomorrow. but as you and janice mentioned. delays and cancellations there are a lot of delays in about 700 cancellations. one passenger that has been delayed is with me right now. thank you for joining us on fox business. where you coming from? where are you trying to get and what is happening? >> will come i'm coming from los angeles going to new york. my flight left on time at lax, no problems whatsoever. so i was excited to just hop on.

i have 20 minutes to get on my next flight and then i landed and found out that it's over two hours delayed. and no one ever wants to hear that, but it's thanksgiving. so we have to be grateful for the fact that i'm going home in the first place and i have six mothers and sisters who don't know that i'm coming home and that is going to be a big surprise. >> we just spoiled it by putting on national television. but that's nice, we are in the spirit of the holiday, thankful that you're making it safely. but you are a little upset? >> yes, it's never fun to be delayed. to be at an airport. cannot be home on time. you know, to have to change dinner plans. but how of second you beat? reporter: that is true. what are you doing at the airport while you're waiting

other than chatting with us? >> i am just walking around, this is my old stomping grounds and i went to school here. so i contacted a few that are working and that's what i did. reporter: they have some fairly decent bars here and restaurants here at the airport. it is a gigantic mall here. and i was a delay passenger up until just a few moments ago when friends, my airline, bumped me up to a 5:30 p.m. flight. i'm out of here as soon as i say goodbye to you. adam: no bar for you, no drink before the flight. and the youngest american ever to visit every country in the world, that is a pretty intensive statement. what advice would you have for the people like the women we just met that are stuck at the airport? most airports are talking about this. >> she has the right attitude. the most important thing is to be nice and go with it. you are flying the day before thanksgiving, the busy day of the year. you have to expect some delays if you're coming from the northeast from washington dc to boston. >> we have had over 600 flights canceled. what happens to those folks? i would imagine if we tried to get on a flight when the weather is good it will be a madhouse. >> yes, it's going to be difficult. we asked people to sign up for tripler, that is her suggestion, they will tell you what you can do and also have a backup plan, know the alternative flights and means of transportation whether trains or buses or renting a

car. >> what advice would you have for people? is there any way for making your chance is better if you're one of the 600 flights that are delayed or canceled? >> and has a domino effect, things get back up and then you have delays today, it will float through the next couple of days and you hopefully have some status with the airline that you're fine, you're going to be one of the first people on the next flight. they typically have an automatic rebooking process and they will tell you what flights are automatically rebooked upon. my suggestion would be tried to jam into the first light tomorrow if your flight is canceled today. get out of the airport. go home and relax. it up and be the first guy at the airport and you have a better chance of getting on the first flight. >> does it make more sense if you live within a certain radius what your final destination is then the going by train or bus or car? it seems every year we go through this.

>> it's funny. misery loves company. now you have delays and you picture the time to get to the airport and tsa. god bless you, do it, but let me tell you that if i'm going from new york to boston or to washington dc, there is no way that i am flying. i'm going to get out of that airport, i'm going to get on a train and i'm going to head up there. and it might cost you $120 to make that move, but to that lady , i would tell her head the union station and get on amtrak and get to the city at that is what you need to do. >> what advice would you have -- let's see you are out of the zone where you could possibly drive, who is responsible for putting you up, do you have to pay for a hotel room? she came from los angeles. so if she did this that she would be stranded? >> they say that they can be out

of control. just have some backup plans. there are things you can use like hotel tonight or go online and try to find last-minute deals. but he was right saying that we need to try to get out on the first flight the next morning, be flexible because this is one that most people won't want to do. but the general rule if tom is take the train. >> let me ask you these days, traveling makes sense, it's no secret. we go through this every year. should you have left yesterday? >> yes, you should have left on tuesday, if you're coming back on sunday, you can change your fly right now without a penalty and a change fee, change it, take the extra day, tell them you're coming back monday and you're going to miss it at the office, a better day to travel and i would never travel today and that is why i am sitting in the studio. >> does it make sense to travel

of retailers hope you will buy it. but this opening a swamping demurely boost the sales and you get any better deals? here to discuss this is regina lewis. i'm going to start with you because i read that last year when they had thanksgiving sales that were equal to about 1.8 billion, we saw black friday sales fall by about $1.8 billion. why be open on thanksgiving? >> i think it is a zero-sum game. but it's not just thanksgiving day, maybe waited until three or four clock, if you stretch out the conversation, now the guys are watching football, and you with your sister and say, let's take a break. >> and there is the fighting and all the arguments. [laughter] >> you see more and editors choice deals, more than black friday, more than cybermonday. >> people want the deals, but

i'm going to take from the side of the retail employees are not volunteering. and there are lots that are not volunteering and don't get the option of volunteering. have pity on these men and women. and you can get this stuff on friday or saturday, but the deal to be competitive is crazy. >> the demand is there. if you look at this, 45 million shop on thanksgiving. this year it's going to be up even more substantially. so as long as people want to shop, the doors will be open. everyone is trying to work around this. >> is the fastest growing. not only are you doing that, but you're comparing notes. >> about a third of sales are going to be tablet and smart phones. >> i'm old enough to remember when stores were open on sunday.

okay, so there were different studies that have shown the best days to shop. and they punched one chilly and, can you imagine 1 trillion transactions on a found that it is today, the day before thanksgiving and it's not thanksgiving or black friday. so which is it a meche should we be shopping now amax. >> if you are deals center, all of the empirical evidence that shop on different days, but i think it's time sensitive and a zero-sum game. i don't shop at macy's and nordstrom, target and wal-mart, it's one of the other. that is why it's whoever gets there first. >> it's turning into a weeklong extravaganza. the retailers are stuck between a rock and a hard place and they have to have a strong start and they like to have a strong finish. they can make 30 or 40% of their sales. and it's not like you find more money on friday or saturday.

adam: you know, my secret is pottery barn. >> cybermonday is good for that. thirty and 40% off of everything. >> they have better deals if you shop online? >> it's good for clothing and shoes, people talk about storewide coupons and more promotion codes, things of that nature. >> so this is it just hype to get people shopping. >> it certainly is hype. it's designed to create a sense of urgency. i actually think the biggest is the people who shop twice. they will shop now and then last-minute later. >> it's too crowded, it's chaos and mayhem. >> they like it. >> one quarter of millennial's millennialist are going to go out on thanksgiving and shop. there's a social element.

getting away from all that stuff, heading out with your friends to the mall. >> i just have to brag. retail, 50 bucks, 1998. adam: unrest in ferguson, ebola reaches the united states, and isis terrorists. bad news is abundant. so what is the potential or distressing headlines to negatively impact the holiday season? joining me to discuss this is our doctor great he is in miami, florida. the first question is is there a psychological effect when you constantly are bombarded with negative headlines? >> unfortunately there is always bad news. people tend to be affected by broader factors including low gas prices and they are willing to spend more when they have more in their pocket. adam: so we don't really have engage of that kind of thing. the psychological aspects of the economy, because employment is picking up, people have more

money, wages have been stagnant. could a retailer use that kind of data and psychological profile to reach an audience. >> retails known for having all sorts of tactics to getting people into the stores like more busters or long lines and there's a collective experience that happens when people see that a product is in high demand and we do this a lot with apple and the iphone. retailers have tricks to get people into the stores, even in the context of bad news in the world. >> when we have so much bad news, especially when it's so close to home and when we have division in the united states and we have riot in some cities, that doesn't play a negative impact. thinking maybe i will just tone it down a bit. >> i think it does, but i think that now is the time of year that people try to mobilize the

support and a turn towards their family and leaders to try to get xers of order. so i think that they want to, if anything, have a distraction and they'd rather shop and think about what is going on because it's frankly depressing. >> sometimes people shop as an outlet inappropriately because of the negative headlines. and you brought up some of the positive things among people that you might be treating or people that you are friends and family life. and the spirit of the nation seems to be on an upswing and that you might see that translate into longer can number purchasing this holiday season. >> when i see my patience, i tell them what you need is not a pill that you have two things that can improve the quality of your life. you can exercise altruism. and it's a hormone in your brain that has to do with wanting an

attachment. by giving back other people, giving to your community whether volunteering at a soup kitchen or at your synagogue or the church, it can really do a lot to increase your sense of well-being and when people are less depressed and they feel happier, they spend more money because they have an overall feeling of optimism. >> i grew up in south florida. so i like shorties rims. and it sure would cheer me up at. >> i've had it many times myself. adam: we appreciate you being here. there are things that are quite serious like what we are seeing in ferguson, but there is a whole country that will be shopping tomorrow and friday and saturday, and that's one of the things we talk about. doctor, thank you and happy holidays. thank you. >> coming up next, they say you have to pay to play. but the government rule book may only breed content and resentment. and next, they call senator

adam: so what about risking that and the portal correct amax. >> that's a good question because the smoking thing on the economy doesn't mean that we're going to do the right things to stimulate the economy. they had a so-called stimulus bill but it really wasn't geared to economic stimulus and it's clearly where the voters are and it's clearly where the voters are today. that's really the other thing to read into what senator schumer is saying that today, five years later the voters are looking for an economic recovery. and obamacare keeps hitting new lows and opinion polls but one

that opens, it's like people become infuriated because they're trying to see him create distance for himself. what is he gaining? >> i'm not sure that his comments were connected with jonathan gruber. i think that they are more in where the democrats are picking up the senate with the republicans come increasing the house majority would for the republicans. it's very clear that they are opposed to obamacare and they are not looking to the democrats to provide it. adam: washington reports an unintended consequence of the orders on immigration and immigration reform have created a 3000-dollar incentive for employers and we have

undocumented aliens as opposed to people that are citizens of the united states. and if you are a republican want to work this, and they may want to work with you to reformat,. >> he basically walked yourself into a place where you are sort of doing this in pieces. and when we have all the problems with the exchange and it's a very complicated tax subsidy. in the end you walk through the same thing. the immigrant issue is not clear to me.

board of directors. but what good does it do to the person that works at a company to know what their party suspects, which is that the ceo makes a gazillion times more than they do. >> not only do they suspect it but folks know what they earn and it gets published in the paper. have a look at pay and they compute the ratio. and they show that it's looking out for the little guy, it's a substitute for creating jobs and a vibrant economy by a bunch of left-wingers. >> no one denies that over the last 10 years, wages have essentially been stagnant, but it distracts from what we do to help those people. >> so what do we do in regards to this ceo is?

i think that they need some scrutiny than they have filled their obligations. they do become meaningless. so whether you make 20 million to 40 million, you can only understand this anyway. but this isn't a way to get it done. this is just another popular stun. it's like the minimum-wage and it's a great campaign slogan. >> it does seem that when the average american worker works 35-gram, and the average is making 354 times that -- >> i think it's wolverine i think the pay is out of control. but this is not the way to get it done. the messages don't list stock on the stock exchange you don't have to fill the requirement. list on the london exchange or the brussels exchange and just forget about it. this is just another incentive

famous star local that everyone associates and is it a good move? >> you can argue that the people that are buying this need to identify who they were and it is their brand equity. and it was stamped on minivans and that is not what enthusiasts care about. the big question is will anyone care about this fca local. it looks like one that was designed by a committee. and as my dad used to say, you will never find a monument to a committee. search every public park. and that's exactly right, it's a device that was created to please everybody and nobody really likes it, but on the other hand nobody really hate that. you can get away with that.
