>> if i want to shop online what do i need to know. cybermonday is still the big thing or should i be shopping at another time? >> it is thanks giving believe the or not. thanksgiving is the cheapest day during november for discounts on line. an average discount of 24% and again this goes back to the earlier point. and thanksgiving will be a big day for online shopping. >> just going to have a big day too. over $0.30 on the dollar will be spent by smart phone. 70% of folks will shop for thanksgiving night and black friday. >> talk to me if you would about exactly how to do that. a lot of people i think inga

about with is able get ripped off this season. do i have to worry about losing my credit card number or getting hacked? what is your advice? >> this is a concern given the hacking situations we've seen going into this season. people are rushing that aside and are going to get out there and spend and are taking a conservative approach to their spending targeting their list and they know what they want to buy. they are following their favorite retailers on social media. thanksgiving will be a busy day all around. braque friday will be better for electronics, laptops and cybermonday, $2.5 billion day is better for closing -- clothing and apparel. this is the day we will see storewide savings 20, 30, 40% off, 45% more clothing deals on cybermondays and black friday. gerri: it is about clothes rather than electronics.

i don't want to pay for shipping. what is the best way to make that happen if i am shopping online? >> to either bundle all your orders at a certain store together to hit the free shipping minimum were shot at the store that reduce the free shipping minimum like target which cannot for free shipping on been much everything from now until the end of the holiday season. check out free shipping day which is later in the holiday season as well but it's just strategic, to buy things together and plan ahead and strategizing or purchases. gerri: the national retail federation says sales will go on 4%, they have big expectations but they might be right this year. what is import for americans is to stretch that holiday dollar. you want to buy a lot but what ought by smart, what is the best way to stretch the dollar? >> consumers have gotten smarter going into the holiday season. they know what they want, they go to sites like the news, goin

wallet, they are following their favorite retailers, and a free e-mail alerts, monitoring the situation. they know what they want. when they get into the sports they do additional price comparisons. maria: gerri: i thought according to you guys the proportion of folks using a price matching service not too-. not many people at doing it. how do you know that and explain what the problem is. >> we put out a harris poll to find information about the holiday season and 70% of shoppers have not used a price that in the last six months. all they need to do is go to a store associate, and the item they want for lower price, and a competitor. this is something people are doing the holiday season but it is advantageous for shoppers and get most of the done at one

>> shoppers realized they can access with comparisons sites for the best deal and lots of online coupons. a lot of retailers offer free shipping, a no-brainer way to shop for the holiday to save money. gerri: lana shop online and spend less than what i going to this was. i find all kinds of things to buy. >> you are not as tempted by impulse purchases that are displayed on those files. gerri: where can we find the best deals? you have been studying this and spend a lot of time. >> the price war is heating up between online retailers this holiday season. if you not comparing prices you could be missing on big savings and there are tools to help you compare prices quickly and easily. these will give you instant price comparisons on line for this particular product you are purchasing. of one retailer charges more and offers free returns you may get

price matching from the retailer online selling it for less. open a live chat or call customer service and you can negotiate and compare cuba on codes for who is offering a better deal and go to sites like couponssherpa.com where they aggregate different retailers to see which one is offering the deeper discount. >> i figured out that these retailers are offering different prices to different people in different parts of the country at different times. even i can the different price by going online at different times of the day in a different part of the country. this is frustrating to me because there should be one price for what i am buying. how do i make sure i get the lowest price? >> that is called dynamic pricing when retailers based them on what the competition is doing but also fluctuating prices based on their browsing patterns and purchase history so the first thing you want to do

is clear the cookies from your internet browser. those contain the information about you and your previous purchase history. make sure they can't collect that and avoid those price hikes if you spend more on the past. you also want to track price drops, use a site like poaching it which will alert you if anything you recently bought goes on sale so you can go back to that on my retailer and ask for a price adjustment or send an alert through the holiday season for something you are planning to purchase at this way you can buy it at the cheapest time is being offered. maria: gerri: you have to show me how to do this because it is complicated for a lot of people. >> you can use google to clear those cookies. >> the other idea which makes lots of sense, you have specific brands you are buying, among social media, this is a great to get coupons.

who buys these cards? >> millennials, they are not as popular with retirees, they do better with men versus women. one interesting thing is the higher income bracket you make a lot more likely to give a gift card. it has a lot to do with time, time to look for gifts. gerri: let's talk about pros and cons. it is ease of purchase, convenience makes a great and there are some fees you might not want to play? >> they announced for specific cards issued by banks or networks, those will have fees attached for fees and activity fees, dormancy fees because that is how the network is making money, store cards tend not to carry them because for will make money off of the purchases. gerri: something like $3.50 to as how much? >> $3.95 to $6.95 though anything over that should be something to look for.

anxiously to talk about this. this is $150, a combination of its products that will tell you what is going on with you physically, track your fitness but also get your e-mail on it. >> is really great. one of the few downside of this is in bright light, even here it is hard to see but that is one of the few down sides, it is a very versatile watch for the dick tracy in you. gerri: you have a samsung phone at the end of the day. this is an amazon kindle, brand-new kindle fire, and have been playing with this all day. it is easy because when you are reading books, one of these little ipads it is really important how it looks because we are all going blind with these things. what do you make of these? >> one thing i like about the amazon is its ability to get help features.

gerri: your next amazon.com package nate arrive in a taxi. the e commerce giant is looking at alternative delivery methods to speed up shipments in time for the holidays. eric shipper is the ceo of patriarchate witty and digitalmarketing.com. this seems crazy to me. why is this happening? why is it so important to use taxes? >> they are looking for any way in which they can make the consumer experience better. if you can deliver same day it works. "imus in the morning" no last christmas they had delivery problems so they're constantly creating different ways to experiment, get packages faster to the consumer which is great for everyone. as a consumer is wonderful but can they make money doing it? there are a lot of questions

relative to that. gerri: what is interesting is companies like uber and left have created a vacuum for old-fashioned taxis, made it possible for taxis to be available for this kind of work and as you see when you scratch the surface of a lot of retailers out there they are trying to do same-day delivery. all kinds of new companies entering this very arena, doing same-day delivery. it is one of those little talk about expansion is going on right under the nose of lots and lots of people. >> it is but it has been done many times, pizza delivery done with taxis years ago but didn't make economic sense. it really didn't. what they are trying to do to use these applications and to use people that are not getting work typically in the morning so they can make it work economically the question will be can they?

will a taxi cab the typically a self-employed contractor, will they make a living with amazon who is not known to be a good kippur. gerri: lots of complaining amazon employees. in san francisco, those of the test markets. this is something that could scale in your view? >> i think it could scale if they get the economics right. it is very questionable. it will be one of the potential things in amazon's personal delivery devices including drones. gerri: i was going to ask about that because i remember the coverage amazon got on cbs, delivering by drones. what happened? where did that go? >> it is still under way. there are experiments happening with respect to it. i believe you will see it. question will be timing and what locale and how will they do it logistically and faithfully for people and be able to do it with

gerri: it is all about the bargains this holiday shopping season and the op-ed stores are promising the biggest price breaks. the ads may be working. consumers expect to spend $42 billion at outlets this year say industry experts. 18 billion more than a couple years ago but are the deals worth the drive and how the bag the best bargain? consumer reports rated over 50 of the largest outlets. they can demand walker joins us with details. welcome to the show. readers of consumer reports are big fans of these outlet malls. what was their response to your survey? >> 67% were completely happy with their outlets for dentures and over 15,000 readers responded to the survey up from the last time we surveyed them. gerri: why are they so satisfied? what is so appealing? >> they are happy with the

stores they rated highly, happy with quality of goods, these elections they get and when i went to the stores and shops myself that is very true. there is great selection. the service people are great. gerri: tell me what are the retailer names that get a particular nod from your readers? >> top-rated outlets where the women's clothing store, l l b and a great return policy, carter, carter actually owns oshkosh. gerri: they are the top-rated stores right there. who do they gripe about? who didn't they like? what were the complaints? >> lower rated where american eagle, old navy, gap, nike and levi tended to not be happy with the selections, the value they perceived even with the help. a lot of big gripes, 17% say the prices were not as good as they thought they would be but that was the biggest gripe.

the others were selected and the help but that was below 10%. gerri: one thing i noticed when i go to outlet stores, it seems to me the retailers are making products specifically for retail and sometimes the quality isn't as good as you find from their brick and mortar store or their online store. >> we found that too. especially with clothing. 85% of the goods you find that out that i made specifically for the outlets now and able tweak the quality. they have fewer stitches per square inch or the lender may be thinner on belts. i don't know if the goods are pretty good. the other goods you will find that regular retailers, the exact same goods. we found those items were cheaper at the retailer's. we count pots and pans and dinner where sets, it was actually cheaper at the regular retail stores.

safe so they will continue to look to the retailers for the deals and there has been some anticipation as we look to the holiday shopping season there's a lot of buildup and anticipation in dollars consumers may have spent in the past in september, october, have been held, waiting for those unbelievable lobbers they know are just weeks away and they have been getting notified about even in advance of black friday. gerri: the answer for retailers has been to extend black friday, wal-mart is extended to a five day stretch. kmart is doing something like 42 hours straight. are we going to start holiday sales in september? is labor day going to be the opening of christmas next year? >> i was in several retailers the day before halloween and saw christmas decorations and holiday decorations up. that will continue to creep. it wouldn't surprise me if back-to-school isn't dominated by a holiday.
