>> bullish on cuban cigars. >> tracy. >> only in new york, amazon is offering one hourdelivery. >> you have to love that, you can procrastinate to the last minute. neil cavuto is next. protesters aren't just pushing an agenda, they are pushing police budgets to the brink. with more protests coming up, police departments are doubling down. the police chief says they are getting expensive and training the department budget. in boston, $2 million to beef up security there. the potential for violence is driving up the cost. the matter of dollars and cents is making no sense. we have our panel here. charles, this is getting to be pricey. now we are understanding it's getting to be really necessary
8:31 am
because of the excessive violence. >> sure. here is the thing. there's a lot of different ironies here on that part. the irony the police have to be paid double overtime. the protesters hate the police, they are being paid double overtime that goes to city coughers. the money may have gone to a free lunch program. you are draining the system, you are rewarding the people you have animosity against and making an entire town and city financially more vulnerable. how crazy is this? ultimately, it backfires. >> incredibly disturbing the direction some of the protests have taken. i have no problem with peaceful protest and paying the police forces to basically ensure they are indeed peaceful. how disgusting is it when you have people like those in new york city chanting, what do we want dead cops. when do we want them?
8:32 am
now. police officers being attacked and they are paid to protect the protesters. that's got to stop, period. >> apparently, it used to be protests are an american right. but, because ferguson and new york, some of them got nasty. police departments across the country now had to up the protective ante. >> a little nasty? these are violent protests. the gentlemen, i use that term sort of broadly, that was arrested recently, that gentleman works for the fciu, the labor union. >> and was behind occupy wall street. >> with connections to new york city mayor conrad, bill baa laz owe and president obama. if the president and the mayor of new york city care, what they should do is say okay, you should be paying to frame the cost of some of this.
8:33 am
new york city police should basically -- i know it will never happen, but he has every right to basically arrest the head of the fciu for insighting that riot and causing what is going on in new york city. >> ben stein, it's costing lot of money. >> it's necessary. we have to protect the right of them. we have to appreciate the cops. the cops are our main line of defense between a decent society and anarchy. we are waging a war against criminals. in some cities, not all, some cities, there's an insurgency among inner city african-americans and to a smaller extent among hispanics. we love them, they are god's children like we are. we want them to not attack us. >> this is not what's happening here. this is a riot, in part insighted by these recent riots, the mayor of new york city who
8:34 am
attack the cops all the time. >> come on -- >> you are being irresponsible right now. >> no, you are being irresponsible. these aren't african-american kids -- >> making unfounded accusations against people. >> these are not african-american and minority kids protesting. these are white kids that are part -- >> tell me about new york. adam, what do you make of that that this is escalating? i'm getting to the point of rega regardless of who is pushing, the response is we need more police and more defensive measures and it's going to cost more. >> well, the point we should belabor, ben made it for a moment. this is the bedrock of american democracy, the right to protest. we not only -- we not only want to support that right, but celebrate that right and -- >> you want to celebrate what happened -- >> hold on, let me finish. >> that's disgusting. >> there is an expense involved
8:35 am
in having protests. it's something to embrace. it's going to ebb and flow. where people are committing crimes, we punish them. >> think about how irresponsible this is of the left to say let's celebrate what went on in ferguson and new york city. these are organized attacks on police by the labor movement, the luiu. who is in obama's corner and bill de blasio's corner as well. >> i watched them out the window here. the protests are organized and deep pocketed people behind them. i also want to address the thing ben said. i think you painted too many black people with the same brush on this one, ben. a lot of black kids looted, but they weren't attacking the police. i think they feel there's a war
8:36 am
on them. that's a different subject. you make a big mistake when you say all these black kids. 99% of them weren't fighting the police. it takes one, then all are fighting. that's the problem here. >> point well taken, my friend. but, my point is also this, the police offer up their lives, their health, their family. >> i agree. i actually think they should be allowed to buy military surplus equipment. the way they rolled it out in ferguson was clumsy. i lived in a place that was dangerous. i think it's crazy that the narrative has gone from too many police in the neighborhood. when i was growing up, we complained because there weren't police. the bad guys ruled the neighborhood. >> think of who the bad guys are here, union activists. >> nothing illegal about that. >> you felt this on the call.
8:37 am
the way is the leaders in this country and numero uno is bill de blasio. he needs a strong voice. rather than praising the peaceful protest and breaking his back and bending over. >> think about why he's not doing that, fdiu and the labor movement. this is the reason. they put him in office, they voted for him, they give him money. he's close to them. that eels who is doing it. >> they have put a lot of democrats in office. >> very close to de blasio. >> the bottom line is, obviously police departments across the country have to prepare in this environment for all measures. i understand what you are saying about american's right to protest. where do you, adam, draw that line and say this is too much and not celebrate?
8:38 am
>> you know, you draw -- i think, as a people, we get to say what we think is obsessive. for example, the occupy movements went on. then bloomburg in new york said, we are done now. this is good. they cleared it out. that was appropriate. let it go for the time it takes. you decide together. >> you don't have time. when people get threatening letters of killing people. obvious people were preparing and going to ratchet it up. it was proven it does ratchet up. what is a town and city to do? >> they have to spend the money. there's no excuse for not allowing peaceful protests. where it becomes violent, crack down. where it goes on and on because of a holiday or upper class schools around a campfire and make drugs and make love, close it down. the right to peaceful protest is
8:39 am
vital. >> you suggest this is not organized. i believe it is organized. >> doesn't matter -- >> charles, i think it is, too. i think it is, too. >> my point is this. >> they can pay for it like they do a parade. >> this is organized by labor movements. new york city, if it had any brains, if bill de blasio wasn't in bed with them, he should be suing them. >> you don't seem to like the man. >> i think he's a communist. forget about the grinch.

now back to cavuto on business. well, santa is getting schooled because thanks to a single person, a massachusetts school canceled santa from appearing in its winter concert. a university of maine official discouraged putting up decorations of any kind because of the possibility of complaints. ben stein who is going on here?
8:44 am
>> pure insanity. this is a country built on faith and cultural conditions. christmas is one of them. christmas is a great, great holiday. i'm a jew, a thorough, full-on jew. >> you are? >> i know you thought i was swedish, but i have no problem saying merry christmas and no problem celebrating the birth of the prince of peace. i have no problem with people gathering. i think this idea is extremely -- we have to eliminate all reference to christmas. >> good for you, ben. to me, it read like the university didn't want to be bothered. it was a hassell that anyone would come along and sue them. lawyers don't come cheap. ben stein, to get his services, $1,000 an hour? >> at least. >> that's why they are doing it.
8:45 am
they are saying celebrate at home anyway you want to, but here on our property, we are not going to deal with it. it is my way of saying, thank you for destroying the country. please justify. >> yes. right on. >> well, i think you have analyzed their perspective. >> like you don't know. >> they have other things to do, right? i actually agree with ben completely. i think, again, as a 100%, full of on jew, we have gone too far in this country in being afraid to use the word christmas. christmas is a great holiday. that's basically -- >> they are taking everything away, name, santa, rudolph, menorah, macy's special, they are gone. >> they are weak and cowardly and fear the lawyers with the maryland school district removed all of those -- >> we love you. love you. >> all the religious holidays because of a muslim group.
8:46 am
we are not going to bother we are removing them from the schedule. there is room. the aclu will sue you. there is room in one supreme court decision in 1989 that allowed for the display on public property, a christmas tree, menorah and sign of liberty. it celebrates the season. it was allowed. you honor paper. >> i think -- >> everyone -- >> i think these governments are acting rationally because they are afraid of being sued. i would say this, the attacks on christians celebrating their time of year has backfired incredibly on the left. right now, there was a point in time where people said happy
8:47 am
holidays. not anymore. i hear merry christmas all the time. i'm telling you -- >> i think this is a serious issue and goes beyond this. the atheists are winning. young americans, fewer and fewer young americans don't believe in god. we stop, it's over. i don't care who you are, this is a country based on god. the atheists are winning. this is a battle worth getting a lawyer. so what? sue me! sue me! >> only atheists are lawyers. >> i don't think -- >> planning religious lawyers. a scary job. >> i don't think they are atheist. i don't think they can call themselves atheists. they represent being pains in the butt. >> the atheists are winning ght n. theyre wningnd i sced.
