melissa: breaking records, making money. an early christmas present for wall street as the dow crosses 18,000 for the first time in history, let's bring in today's panel. fox business's charlie gasparino, jack hough from "barron's." monica crowley from "the washington times." she is also fox news contributor. jack what do you think of this rally? >> it is certainly welcome. only an idiot would try to predict what the stock market will do. that said, let me predict what the market will do. the u.s. market will rise 8%. melissa: really. >> i pick that number because that is rate of expected earnings growth next year. we had enough of rising valuations in u.s. they have been high as they get relative to earnings. see valuations stable, match -- melissa: nice haircut,. >> petco. melissa: well-played. >> i agree. here's the thing, look at this way, low inflation a huge tax cut in the name of lower oil

prices and lower gas prices. not really great wage growth. and decently expanding economy, unless something takes, throws a monkey wrench into that formula the market has got to go up. i don't know how much. i won't say 8% but got to be a decent run. it has to be. melissa: we'll hold you to that. >> unless one of those -- >> supposed fed has to raise rates because there is asset bubble? that is the sort thing you have to worry about. melissa: i want to bring monica in on this one of the economy is growing at fastest pace in more than a decade rising 5% in the third quarter. is though, is that, there might be something to this number. the government recently changed way it calculates gdp to take advantage of our love of movies and ipad. so they not only want to calculate the income that comes from selling an independednt pad and from us going to the movies but they also want to count the research and development and quantify it that goes into an

independednt pad and also want to try to put a price on intellectual property within a movie so they can make this number bigger. what do you think about that? >> i hope the 5% number is true but however the confidence we've had in government numbers whether unemployment or gdp has been on shaky ground for quite a long time. i hope this is real. my confidence with the government putting in some intangibles to get a higher number, look, i think we're on dicey ground here. we'll see how it plays out but i don't think that 5% number is anywhere near where we ought to be. the growth number has been revised down the last couple of quarters. we know unemployment is fake number. there is this fake money -- melissa: jack, you're chomping at the bit. >> i couldn't disagree more. almost every year there is change how we calculate inflation or jobs or economic growth and every year there is a conspiracy theory that they're faking it. melissa: it is pretty fishy. go after the stuff we love.

trying to apple up the numbers. >> jack, if we had real, 5, 6% growth, wage growth would be better. historically -- i'm not saying they're fake. >> if they were faking economic growth how do you explain the last five years? why don't they fake it better? >> saying they're faking it. here the problem. to say this shows how great things are, 5% growth -- >> that i agree. >> you don't have the wage growth. >> the problem is, the gdp doesn't measure whether we're getting better off. it just measures money whipping around the economy. >> by the way -- >> if mcdonald's making us fat because we're buy hamburgers and drugmaker is curing diabetes and that is not figured in and money whipping through the economy. >> that is the central problem with obama-nomics. very food for the market, rich fat cats. people like us with few bucks to invest, hopefully people watch fox business network for the average joe if you're not in the market you're kind of screwed.

melissa: the sony saga takes another attorney today as the company announces it will release "the interview" in select theaters on christmas day after all. one cinema chain in texas, of course it is texas. its ceo explained last hour on "risk & reward." >> it has become much more than this one movie. this movie is emblem of freedom

"the view." >> white house issued a statement applauding sony's decision. we have a attorney from los angeles. and michael tamaro from in the fox light. and jack hough with us as well. dominic, let me start with you. do you think the theaters have to sign a release that they will not hold sony responsible if they show this movie? >> well, obviously they're assuming the risk here and this is a response by sony that appears to be their reaction to the public backlash and high-profile protests you've seen from stars and from the president himself. melissa: yeah. michael, i think this could possibly be the most effective stunt of all time. now they release the movie. there is all -- everybody said release it and we'll go see it in droves because we want to support the movie and we'll not let the terrorists win or

hackers. >> here's the thing. this movie was going to be a very small player on christmas day. there are a lot of big releases. "american sniper," into the woods. this movie would have been forgotten moment it was released. i don't think it was a stunt. it was a poorly mishandled crisis management situation from the very beginning. now it is about saving face. melissa: looking so silly and ridiculous like they fumbled could be a genius stunt of all time. what a great cover. they look like idiots. you would never believe they're smart. jack, what do you think. are you running to the movie to see the movie. >> i heard the movie was two hours of crotch jokes. that is not a holiday tradition in my family to watch it. the money in the movie is rounding error for larger holding company. they have more potential shutting down electronics businesses that aren't working right now. melissa: they said they would lose $200 million. it had most effective pr of all time. dominic, seth rowing fan was out

there -- rogan was tweeting. the people have spoken. sony didn't give up. how many theaters do you think are going to do it? >> i think as many as can get their hands on it. you have unprecedented interest here. so ironically whoever did this north korea or someone else in attempt to stifle free speech encouraged interest in a movie that would not otherwise have been there. it is remarkable. as many theaters as possible i think you will see a lot of people request the movie. melissa: sony on the offensive trying to stop the hacks of information. going after twitter and threatening it with a lawsuit if it doesn't suspend an account leaking documents. this is great one. at bikini robot army is the guy behind all this this sound like a character from spongebob. >> shows how poorly they handle the whole thing. send out the letter to news networks to stop reporting bit.

huge day for markets. s&p and dow hitting new highs. big board topping 18,000 for the first time ever. let's go to nicole petallides on floor of the new york stock exchange with more on today's trade. big day down there, nicole. >> no doubt. dow 18,000. people are waiting for it. does it really mean anything? no. but a great psychological round number. we crossed through. that right now the dow is up 95 points, holding on to some great gains. we have names on the dow, hitting life-time highs today. some folks own these, probably pretty happy to see it. travelers, visa, 3m which since pulled into the red and hit a lifetime high. proctor & gamble, disney and home depot. we've had stellar performers. intel and united health have been great performers on the dow jones industrial average and better than expected gdp numbers showing growth in the economy. that helped things along. back to you. melissa: nicole, thank you so much. a few stories on our radar. keurig is recalling nearly seven million of its popular coffee
