3:02 am
now you have projected sales of $8 million this year. how do you make it go beyond christmas? >> christmas to date has definitely been our main season. what we are doing to kind of get outside of the season ality that we are facing is we are launching new non-holiday products. i brought a few with me here. >> good. >> so we've got st. patrick's day shirts we are working on like this. we have some american flag clothing, some patriotic women's leggings. we have jump suits valentine's day shirts. we work with a company that has licenses with a lot of major colleges. and we designed an exclusive line of sweaters with them and purchased them and we sell them on our website. we are looking to kind of break outside of our season ality and become more of a year round.

3:05 am
from the cupcake bubble which didn't end too well around here. you look at crumbs, when you focus on one product in particular it can be pretty tough especially when it is not your season. do you worry about that? >> seasonality we are faced with. >> it is great when i feel like yogurt, the rest of the time i am not stopping in. >> it is up to our product team to focus on individuality to allow customers to want the flavors. >> you are doing a hot cocoa. >> we have a hot cocoa utlessing our frozen yogurt and working on a program that extends to the breakfast products with better for you options. things like hot oatmeal fresh yogurt and fun interactive experience. >> is there a best selling yogurt in the winter months?

something that does well when everybody is cold? >> the classic favorites will be number one. we have winter flavors like peppermint candy which help drive in additional traffic. >> appreciate your time. >> with all the frigid winter weather probably the last place you want to be is surrounded by ice. here in manhattan one below freezing bar is heating things up. minus five is a mid town hot spot that keeps it cool at 29 degrees. i have driven by your place a bunch of times. in the middle of the summer it was very inviting when it is sweltering outside and you definitely want to get in the heat. when it is freezing out i don't know that i want to go into a place that is even colder. how do you sell that? >> that is a funny question that we get asked all the time. it is ironic but we bode very well in the winter.

3:08 am
that this would be something that attracts people. >> when we first conceived the concept and we were going warm weather climates are the place to be. since we have been here in new york city the winter has proven to be a great deal. we are looking at san francisco and more colder climates because we do well in both seasons. >> what kind of drink do you serve that makes sense in a frozen bar. it seems like i'm going to want a hot drink. >> we tend to name our drinks after tropical things. there is tropical drigs. emotionally you feel like you are warmed up. they are all served in glasses made of ice. until you put that ice glass to your list the experience doesn't come through. it is a cool experience. >> i will stop on my way home. have a drink waiting. >> we're ready for you. move over, we are going to show you some of the weirdest travel gadgets you didn't know you needed.

taking a deep dive into the
3:21 am
business of sharks for many divers the possibility of coming face-to-face with a great white is pretty real. now there is a device that will keep them firmly at bay. it is called a shark shield. amanda wilson is shark shield's general manager. she joins me from tampa. tell me how this works. >> shark shield is the world's only scientifically proven electrical deterrent. we have two electrodes and an antenna that trail behind a surf board. it produces a field that keeps them 15 to 20 feet away from the wearer. >> how did you test this and figure out that it would work? >> there has been a lot of testing done. it has been 25 years in the making. the original technology was developed out of south africa. they had a space of fatal shark attacks and wanted to look at nonlethal attacks.
3:22 am
they started playing around with how to exploit shark senses. in regards to testing there istypically two different methods. one is suspending a large piece of tuna in bloody water and then turning the shark shield on and off and seeing whether it takes the bait. the second is towing a steel decoy behind a boat. >> does it hurt the shark at all? have you heard from animal rights activists? >> actually animal rights activists are quite supportive of it because it is a shark conservation tool. if we can prevent shark attacks then we stop the discussion of shark nets. it has no long term effects on the shark. >> it is being sold in florida for $600. i wonder is there a big market for this? because i saw 700 people die each year from toasters. about five from shark attacks. it seems like it is not -- while
3:23 am
it is a fantastic device if a shark were pursuing me i would pay any amount of money to have it on me. i don't know how common that it. >> it is not so much that people die from them but people have a fear from sharks. if you have a spear mishfishermen that it is an attraction for sharks. they will have bull sharks and tiger sharks chasing them trying to steal their fish. that becomes a situation trying to protect themselves. >> how many have you sold roughly? >> well, we have been selling them in australia for 12 years. so we have sold well over 25,000 units. >> amanda wilson very cool. thank you for coming on today. we really appreciate your time. from repelling them to tracking them a non-profit company has been tagging sharks across the world making it possible for you to follow great
3:24 am
whites right from your phone. major companies are opening their wallets to make all of this possible with expeditions costing millions of dollars. chris fisher is founder chairman and expedition leader. did you hear about the shark shield? how do you feel about the product? >> i think it can ease people's minds. you are trying to manage against something so statistically unlikely it is mostly for the people who is wearing its only mental ease. >> you talk about tracking them to see their natural pattern. do you think something like that would throw off the natural pattern? >> no. it is a brief interaction. it is experimental that people are trying to figure out. the likelihood is so low that you could use anything and it would be likely effective 100% of the time. >> you actively track around 30
3:25 am
sharks right? you have an app that does it. one of our producers is really into this and was following the shark lydia. tell us the story of lydia. >> lydia was a shark that was the first time any shark was tagged in florida. she has travelled over 25,000 miles in the last 18 months and really connected florida to new finland and to the uk by these massive migrations while she reveals the secrets of her life. where is she breeding and giving birth. we have to understand the lives of the sharks. if there is not an ocean full of sharks there will be no fish for our kids to eat in the future. >> why do we needs sharks for fish? >> they keep everything in order. if we remove them from the ocean you start to see fisheries collapse. so we are losing 250,000 a day 100 million a year. we have to develop the data so we can create a future for them. >> is that a reason why companies like caterpillar
3:26 am
landry's yam ha fund the project. why are they interested? >> we are starting to see fortune 500 starting to understand that the great countries that built the planet will need to create a future for the planet. when you see someone like chairman of caterpillar adding sustainability as a core value we need a robust future for the planet. shell is now dipping their toe in the water to help us maximize our science. you know the millennial, they want to work with organizations that are doing good while they do well. we are a perfect vehicle for that. >> talk to me about cool technology that you use? >> some of the latest tracking technology in the world that we mount on the fins of the sharks so every time they stick their fin out of the water it beams their location into our office which we share on the tracker with the world.
3:27 am
so the whole world is involved in probably the most charismatic research project in recent times in the ocean in real time with the phds. while the students follow the sharks and pick their favorite sharks we have a stem educational curriculum that allows them to learn their math and geography and sciences while they are tracking their favorite sharks. >> it sounds so cool. we are watching the video and it is showing how you tag the sharks. it looks dangerous. it also looks like you might be hurting them? >> it's not dangerous. one of the key things you are seeing when you watch our work is world class fisher men coming together with world class scientists to develop the fundamental data we need. >> you are not hurting them. we are looking at a video and it looks painful. in the tracker. you release them and we are tracking them for years and years and they are regaining regular migratory cycle. >> has anybody gotten hurt?
3:28 am
>> no. no one has gotten hurt. >> thank you so much for coming on. our crew on the show, we love following the fun. when one cup of joe just isn't enough, you can now have your own keg of iced coffee. get ready to show them the money. some of this year's biggest money makers are stirring up the most trouble. piles of money coming up. pñptúx
