output of energy related products increased. of course jobs are also the focus at the fed and how fast the economy creates them will be key to when the fed starts to raise short-term interest rates expected sometime this year. on jobs the beige book says, quote, payrolls in variety of sectors expanded moderately during the reporting period. melissa? melissa: peter, thank you so much. let's bring in today's panel. charlie gasparino, fox business senior correspondent. pete hegseth ceo of concerned veterans of america. we have tony sayegh executive vice president the jamestown associates. peter and tony are fox news contributors. let's dig into what you heard? >> i think, as all these reports are they're backwards looking. they're looking at the past. i think what the markets are doing receipt now inputting some of the figures you heard him talk about some of these statistics and looking at it forward. it wasn't all positive. weak demand manned for oil. melissa: right. >> that's a negative for the economy. and you know yes,

year-over-year we've had good job growth but you know what the market sy sag some of those factors he talked about including weak demand manned for oil is few other things slipped my mind, should have written them down, few other things portend problems for the economy if you look forward. melissa: they talk about moderate growth, we'll talk in a little bit what the world bank said u.s. being engine of the world. we're driving the whole train and we're moderate? tony. >> look at today's retail sales report dropping down. there is very little confidence. the u.s. consumer is being asked to carry the weight of the entire global economy on its shoulders. to charlie's point when oil demand is down, economy is weak in some decline. >> or getting weaker. >> at least in the eyes of people that drive the economy. look at what europe is doing. very poor growth. they're about to make announcement from european central growth on their own qe program. that will inflows as much what the that does as fed in the

building your confident retirement today. melissa: americans abroad urged to travel with caution as airports across the country ramp up already heightened security measures. this comes after al qaeda warns it developed a undetectable bomb. jeff flock at o'hare in chicago live with more. jeff what is it like there today? >> this is not too bad because this is midweek. this is the security check point at the united terminal melissa. we've gotten pretty good detecting metallic objects with full-body scanners as well as metallic scanner but this is potential threat of undetectable bomb. look at some things we found by the way tsa found coming through security. just over the course of the past month, things like happened grenades believe or not people

tried to bring through. during christmas week a giant christmas carving knife. we've gotten good at picking those things. in the latest edition of "inspire" magazine, the latest publication for jihadists, they fub like ad recipe that would be virtually impossible to detect. tear rim experts saying that may in fact be true particularly airports with only old metal detectors, not the full-body scans. this would be a bomb that could be improvised and made out of things you could find they say in your mother's kitchen. that is why security is on high alert across the country, melissa. melissa: jeff, thank you very much. increased airport security means we face more threats at home. let's go to the panel. mike baker, former cia covert operation officer and president of security he will against firm diligence. pete hegseth is back and carrie sheffield a fox news

criminal against other muslims that wanted to do harm. melissa: mike this is the holy grail talking about undetectable explosive. it doesn't mean -- it means it doesn't have metal inside of this. this isn't first time we've seen recipe inside of inspire or trying to put that out there. how hard is it to make that. >> a lot more difficult than people see in feature films and they have problems getting recipe right. you have to have accelerator, something going on with what we saw with abdulmutallab, problems with the detonation phase of the whole thing. they have been working on this. they have got some very capable bomb-makers. you know, many of them coming out of yemen. some now in syria. i mean the problem that we've got is sort of overarching this they have gained territorial integrity now. that gives them the ability, in many caps an area they control in syria and iraq whether it is khorasan or isis or al qaeda, they all want to kill us. that gives them the ability, to plot plan, train and

experiment. melissa: right safely. >> having territorial integrity is very dangerous. melissa: stocks holding on to steep losses up to after the fed's beige book. go to nicole petallides on the floor of the new york stock exchange. we bounced back a little bit if you can say that being down 255, nicole. >> we did you're absolutely right, melissa. at the lowest point we were down 350 points. we're up off the lows of the day. it is interesting right now we're down 1 1/2%. all dow components are lower with the exception of pfizer and merck. they have been the stars of 2015. jpmorgan and goldman sachs weighing on the dow. financials have been particularly weak. jpmorgan came out with numbers that missed and also oil. take a look what is going on with oil. moments ago, traders say what is going on with oil? it is rallying, up a buck 45 right now. you see the big spike right there. we're looking at that very closely but that has been weighing on markets overall. back to you. melissa: interesting nicole. thanks so much. oil is cheap but comes at a

melissa: dramatic turn of events hundreds of miles above the earth. american astronauts on board the international space station were evacuated after a gas scare. a toxic leak was thought to have triggered an alarm which forced the astronauts to put on masks and seal themselves in the russian side of the station. tests have found no traces of

amonia or any other dangerous substance. experts are blaming the scare on a computer card error. the american crew will need to stay huddled up with the russians until they're given the all-clear to return. wow. take a look at oil right now, spiking more than 3%. look at that hovering around 47 bucks a barrel but oil's recent decline might come at a price. the dallas fed estimates that hundreds of thousands of jobs could disappear if prices keep falling. fox news's casey stiegel is in midland, texas with more. casey? >> does come with a downside if you're one of the thousands of people that work at the oil rigs behind me. the industry tells me they are bracing for tough times ahead here in the permian basin in texas. there are 100 oil rigs dotting the landscape, working one 24 hours a day, seven days a week churning out the ground. if rises continue to tumble they

predict 25 to 40% of the drilling will come to a halt. that translates into thousands of lost jobs is 40,000 according to the federal reserve bank of dallas, that is in the state of texas alone. subpoena companies began to hand out pink slips. others are avoiding layoffs by slowing production. >> we have been running four rigs most of 2014. we have already dropped one and gone to three. and we will be in the process in late february early march and we'll go to two. >> it is important to remember of course that this is a very volatile industry. the people working in oil and gas know that. they are patiently waiting and anxiously awaiting for the price to go right back up. melissa: no doubt. casey, thank you so much. the electric slide tesla shares tanking after the automaker sales in china took an unexpectedly weak turn during the fourth quarter. ceo elon musk also warning that the company won't be profitable

after all until 2020. here now is james freeman from the "wall street journal" along with jonathan hoenig from capitalist pig hedge fund. he is also a fox news contributor. jonathan hoenig, what do you think about this one? >> this decline in tesla, melissa, has been unfolding the last couple weeks and months even. in this kind of market where there is risk aversion where people want to own safe securities like u.s. treasurys and gold, stocks like tesla which always traded extreme, obnoxious valuation no one wants to hold them and why at least in today's market these high beta, these big far out type of fantasy stocks probably a lot further to fall. melissa: okay. james freeman, this was a very obnoxious stock for a while. i like the way you characterized that jonathan. >> not just value but overvalued. melissa: it could go back. maybe this is an opportunity. what do you think, james? >> i think it is obnoxious period because this is not a real business in the way lots of other listed companies are. it is highly dependent on
